For a week or so, Coronation Street has been building towards the death of Kylie Platt. However at the same time, they've been slowly nurturing a potential soap TV gem in 'Clayton' also known as Macca's brother. So far what I've seen of Clayton he's been promising, his on-screen chemistry with his brother Macca is realistic and there's no doubt that he will be promoted from recurring to full-time soon. So what's next?

Well first: - SPOILER
Spoiler

But what about after that? I see so much potential in a character who has showed so much character in such limited amount of time. There are a few possibilities.

- Phelan's apprentice. Clayton has been seen as a cheeky chancer who will do anything for a bit of easy cash and food, so perhaps being under the tutelage of Phelan will mellow down this character and bring out a more humane side. The last week or so, Phelan's character has been criminally underused and I don't think he even got a minute of screentime. What better way to humanize Clayton than put him under the nobleman Pat Phelan's watch and teach him all about an honest day's graft. Perhaps Clayton could work on the builders' yard in the future....

- Sean's next love interest. I think it's safe to say that Clayton is a more feminine character with the way he liked being dominated by Caz in the pub, and even when Kylie touched him, he freaked out and stabbed her and ran away. I think perhaps Clayton could have just been trying to be true to himself. I think Clayton could warm to Sean and these two could be a great same-sex partnership. Anthony Cotton has maximized the potential of each coupling he's been in, and I feel as if Sean and Clayton could offer something fresh and their chemistry could be amazing.

- Callum's reincarnation. A bit unrealistic, but hear me out. Clayton's brother Macca was one of Callum's closest friends, and a Callum return has been teased by Sarah going crazy, but MAYBE Sarah hasn't been going crazy and she actually prophesied it. Maybe while Sarah was away in Italy, she was told by some Catholic elder about spirits and whatnot and demonic presences. I think perhaps Macca was desperate for his old friend Callum and decided to go to The Dog & Gun to perform a ritual, and sacrificed his younger brother's soul in the pub to resurrect Callum in a new vessel. I think maybe Clayton awoke Callum' subconsciously within his vessel when he came into physical contact with Kylie, and Callum seeked revenge against his murderer.

Whatever way you go about it, this is a character with so much potential. I'm looking forward to seeing more of him.

I would like all three of the possible storylines to happen, especially his relationship with
Sean. Corrie desperately needs some realistic but hard-hitting stories and these sound perfect.

What about Sean and Clayton taking over the Rovers? The pub is in need of strong leadership and having a strong couple behind the bar will hark back to the golden eras of Annie and Jack Walker and Bet and Alec Gilroy. Sean and Clayton are the obvious choice to take the helm at the Rovers, it's a no brainer for me.

I think he's inhabited by the spirit of Jez Quigley. Hopefully, we'll have a seance or two, at which Sally will produce the spirit of Richard Hilllman, who'll have the winning numbers for the next few lotteries.

Or possibly John Stape, who'll smother them all in ectoplasm, and exclaim "Sorry. That wasn't supposed to happen"

I think he should a permanent character, and him and David become enemies like Ken Barlow and Mike Baldwin

Any potential he had is gone now, he killed Kylie in cold blood. He will either be killed off or get arrested. Corrie handle the villainous characters badly, they turn them into scumbags without showing any signs of goodness in them. Callum was in the show for a year and we only seen one side of him which made him extremely dull. Had they of wrote it so he bonded with Max and had some genuine feelings for Sarah aswell as wanting to carry on with his dodgy life he might of been a decent character. However he was just a one trick pony scumbag.

Despite starting out as a thoroughly unlikeable character Clayton will soon win the residents of Weatherfield around with his slick charm and witty banter. He will become the next notch on Sarah's bedpost despite misgivings and warnings from the Platts. He will eventually steal Sinead away from Chesney, but Ches will be okay with that because Clayton is now a highly respected member of the community. Liz will hire him as her best barmaid..... Man.

He has killed someone so he has to get his comeuppance, another character who didn't even have a chance thanks to some awful writing.

Also Im probably in the minority but I quite like Macca, he seems pretty harmless to me. He didnt come across any worse than Gemma did at the start so if Gemma has the chance to change her life around then so does Macca. Id quite like to see him working in the garage or street cars.

David, when asked "What's next for Clayton?", will look directly into the camera and, just like Clubber Lang, exclaim... "Pain!".

Maybe some locals will recall an argument between Callum and Clayton, then the police will suspect Clayton killed Callum and Kylie, and be charged accordingly.
