When she first rocked up on the cobbles it very much felt like we were just going to have another tearaway rebellious teen on our hands. It's fair to say that Fallon appeared quite awkward in those initial scenes and few took to her character. However, the turnaround in the character of Bethany and the quality of Lucy Fallon's acting has been nothing short of astounding in the past couple of months. She is definitely more comfortable portraying the character's vulnerabilities in the face of her bullying, her mother's mental breakdown and now Kylie's untimely death. I now see her as a valuable asset on the show and hope that we continue to see a lot more of her. I also think that she is now more than capable of carrying her own storylines.

She's a good character but I hate the bullying storyline.

It would've been better IMO is she was the bully.

I always liked her but I agree the actress seems more comfortable in the role now. She's had quite a lot to contend with since she arrived. It'd be nice to see her get some happiness.

I have had issues with the writing of the bullying storyline, right down to the nature of the dialogue as some of it just doesn't ring true. I am hoping that this storyline is perhaps a catalyst for something much darker like Bethany perhaps developing anorexia. I had a feeling that they were going down that route with Bethany suddenly joining a gym after receiving taunts about her weight.

Totally agree with this.

I don't think she has. I think she has had time to be accepted and people now accept and like her. Very good at the emotional scenes in an understated way. Definitely one to watch and a worthy addition to the the Platt clan.

I wonder what the other actress would have been like, the one whose age DS forum members uncovered and had sacked...

(I like Lucy though.)

I think she's always been good, but they are know giving her more material when she can demonstrate her ability. Both her and Tina O'Brien are very good.

Especially good in any scenes where she's required to cry.

I liked her from the start. Sarah returning was a great move and I liked Sarah and Bethany as a duo. I dont really like what they've done to them both, weakening them..Bethany was such a little brat its so hard to believe she's being bullied so badly. And feisty Sarah too, with her breakdown. I really thought they worked great as a mother-daughter comedy feature making sarcastic remarks about everyone. I wish they'd stayed like that a little more!

The Platts in general are at a real low at the moment. Not one of them has had much luck recently. Gail is the one in the best position to take control and build them back up. She needs to be strong. I hope that's what happens.

Bethany is much better now because they are letting her be a teen instead of an over made-up gobby cow who also went on about pasta to try and endorse the Italian connection. Thank goodness Corrie has made her a more believable character.

Well that is irrelevant isn't it, And fact is the character would probably have been written out or recast because at some point the truth would have come out

You can be sure of it. The applicant lied.

She annoyed me at first, but she's made the role her own since.

Lucy Fallon has come on leaps and bounds since she joined the Street as nuBethany.

Also have a sneaky feeling she's going to develop anorexia in light of the bullying storyline. I know the issue was tackled in Hollyoaks (and going further back didn't Neighbours/Brookside?) also tackle eating disorders in young girls? Think it was Bulimia?

I'm loving Bethany now since they've expanded her character & given her a more vulnerable side!!
It's not been a great year for the poor lass so far & Lucy Fallon is playing it sympathetically & brilliantly!!

She certainly looks better without all the make up and not dressing so tarty and not being so gobby, just hope they have forgot about the unconvincing bullying nonsense,

Last night was the 1st time I have thought she looked the age she is supposed to be......and that was a huge improvement in making it believable for me.

Lucy looked young and vulnerable and the acting seemed better.

Bethany developing an eating disorder as a result of all her recent troubles would be a credible story development. With the family's attention being squarely on David and his attempts to cope with Kylie's death, it's easy to see how isolated and vulnerable Bethany would feel as her bullying continues to go unnoticed by her distracted family members. It's an issue that the show has never covered before, as have few others. I don't recall EastEnders or Emmerdale ever portraying anorexia.
