From rzt

Victoria : 5.20m (25.2%) Inc +1

A bit of a drop from Sunday but has retained the majority of its audience which looks promising.
Good retention that, ITV will be very happy this morning I'd imagine.

Ohh not been here since Saturday morning and there are 15 pages to read, its like the olden days heh.

Quick point

Its taken the getaway Car so long to show all its episodes that when it started Dermot O'Leary was still saying he'd never go back to XFactor not ever in a million years heh

Any ratings for how Thor did? I expect probably over 4m with it being a Marvel premiere and starting at half 8 probably gave it the jump on Victoria.

Well, given Ray Tings has posted a top 3 there it's definitely done worse than 3.34m.

It's sad that films rarely rate these days, even a fairly significant one like that.

It might be significant, but it has limited appeal. It really doesn't have the masses flocking to see "Thor" in the way Harry Potter, Star Wars and James Bond does.

That's only about 200k more than C4 got for the premiere of the first one (a film that's two and a half years older) a couple of months ago. I expected a bit more.

Decent for Victoria. It's a solid start but it doesn't have a huge amount of room to fall. Timeshift will be interesting.

As predicted. It got what it deserved. Previous films in the Marvel franchise may have played out to audiences of 5m (as suggested by others on this thread), but this isn't Christmas / New Year and they don't seem to have mass appeal.

To be fair, 3.045 million isn't awful for a Bank holiday. I do think it has appeal - it made $650mil at the box office, for pete's sake! It probably would've done better at Christmas or New Year, but then people would've moaned that the BBC didn't make an effort on bank holiday. You can't win these days.

I think August bank holiday is probably the weakest time to do any movie premieres,. there's a fair chance the weather will be good and thus hurt ratings.

I don't think BBC would have had (m)any complaints if they'd saved this for Christmas week.

Does anyone have the breakdown for victoria last night?
It has lost half a million viewers already from an decent (but not spectacular start) and will be against poldark next weekend where it may fall more perhaps.

I don't see why it would fall more. There's more than 8m people watching TV on a night, so it's feasible that both can rate well. Baffles me that people think people will only watch one channel and nothing else - some people might like Victoria but not Poldark and vice versa.

Vera went up against Poldark and they both rated well. Shows can co-exist and both rate well if people like them. I'm sure Poldark will outrate it, but there's no reason Victoria can't stay above 5m and do well in timeshifting.

I don't think there's a clamour to show movie premieres in August. Half decent programming maybe, but movie premieres generally (in the past at least) happen in Autumn/Winter.

Of course it's easier for me to suggest that BBC should magic up some 90 min/two hour programming thing, a movie premiere is the simplest solution (if not the wisest ratings wise).

It is the daytime schedules that people complain about having no effort made on a bank holiday. One of the best bank holiday schedules was I think in 2010 (correct me if I'm wrong) but it was a Good Friday and there were a couple of decent films on during the day and some new series' on in the evening including the launch of the last series of Ashes to Ashes. Making an effort doesn't just mean sticking the dull Edinburgh Tattoo and a film with limited appeal on. The Thor film is probably not the type of film BBC1 viewers tend to watch. If it was a film like Saving Mr. Banks, it would have probably done much better.

This is why old comedies are being resurrected. Some name value helps pull in an initial audience. I do think it was thrown under a bus with the scheduling. All the BBC2 sitcoms look single camera and samey. No variety. Plus they haven't done an effective job of promoting these sitcoms in general for the sitcom season.
