I was wondering if they were shoehorning a seventh episode of Emmerdale in by the back door they've aired so many of late!

Does anyone have a count of how many episodes of Emmerdale they've aired this year? They just be up by now but I don't think they're going to lose any more episodes this year - I guess they may give a longer build up to England v Scotland on November 11th which will result in an episode being dropped but other than that...
I mean 'must'. My English is terrible this evening.

They ordered a handful of extras last summer as well. Probably the same way as how the BBC order extra EastEnders for Christmas/January.

It hasn't been 5 weeks on the trot, 5 weeks ago we were in the mist of the euros group stages.
It will be five weeks this Tuesday is what I meant.

MBB Live felt very strangely scheduled tonight, almost 'plonked' in the middle of the summer wasteland. Given that it's meant to part of the sitcom season, you'd think the BBC would have wanted it to go out alongside other programming from the strand, maybe after the Olympics late next month

It is strange, and to me seems likely that this wasn't the original plan.

The original rationale for the season was to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the first TV Hancocks Half Hour in July 1956 - and it was always stated that the season would be in 'summer', so I assumed all the revivals and everything else would be coming this month too.

Perhaps they had to delay the rest of the season for some reason (production delays. etc) - but weren't able to push back the live MBB because of the team's schedule?

Some of the programmes in the BBC1 summer trailer don't look to be starting until the very last week of August at the earliest (Ordinary Lies, Bake Off..) so the definition of summer seems to be being stretched somewhat.

Thanks Ray. Not bad, hopefully it's enough for a second series.

6.4m enjoyed #mbblive last night with a peak of 6.8m! @MrsBrownsBoys @brendanMrsBrown

Wow! I did not expect it to get over 6m considering its slot and it being on in the height of summer.

It all depends how it has done on IPlayer. A figure like that will not be recommissioned by BBC1 though, so Iplayer showing will be the only thing to sway commissioning a series 2.

That's a stunning figure all things considered, and it will interesting to see how it does on catch up too. Still much life in MBB.

EDIT: Excellent figure for the Peter Kay repeat too. The BBC should look at other formats for him.

Excellent figure for MBB and the BBC schedule the Peter Kay rpt well, knowing it would rate well come what may. It being a rpt of repeated clips.

We could see these two programmes together again on the big night in December. Peter Kay is the perfect wind down/nodding off late Christmas Night filler.

Sorry for mentioning the C word in July

Just looked at the Christmas Day rating of MBB from last year, there's a huge 0.04m difference between that and last night's rating

Or maybe launch the new series of Car Share on Christmas Day after MBB. Ah sorry, I mentioned that word. Far too early to be discussing those schedules yet.

Terrific rating for MBB. Much better than I expected given the date and slot. That's actually better than the most recent Christmas/New Year specials! Then again, Christmas Day viewing has slumped in recent years and the New Year episode was pissed away in a silly timeslot.

I'd imagine they'll definitely do more live episodes after that, it worked really well. I wonder if they'll ever make another full series though? There's no reason not to other than availability.

A rubbish night elsewhere. Peter Kay did well but it looks like better weather crushed the early evening stuff. Catchphrase seems to have lost quite a bit and very poor for the Spider-Man repeat. Also absolutely dire for Alan Carr!

To be honest though, the Olympics is a huge road block in August.

That Peter Kay programme was originally shown on Christmas Eve last year. I doubt it would, or should, appear again on Christmas Day this year.

There was something in the papers about the BBC wanting to get Peter Kay to bring back Phoenix Nights and Max and Paddy to the BBC rather than ch4. Along side Car Share and other new projects.

Best not to schedule it again. I wasn't aware that it was the one shown on Christmas Eve. I guess the BBC always have the Comedy Shuffle as filler.

These are the overnight ratings for the previous two Mrs Brown's Boys specials as a comparison. Would be interesting to see the share last night's episode had.

Christmas Day (2015) - 6.41m (27.7%)
New Year's Day (2016) - 5.58m (31.7%)

That's probably due to the Olympic coverage on this occasion.
