I would agree with this but 6.6m consolidated to 8m (based on the sort of timeshifts that dramas put on these day) would be a good audience for Cold Feet.

Goodnight Sweetheart was the standout though. A cast that slipped back into a show after 17 years as if they really had time travelled from the day after it last aired. In terms of stepping into the parts if not appearance (Ron!)

Hardly anything other than praise for it from pretty much everyone - most unusual - even people who had not seen the original were impressed.

Marks and Gran have always loved this show so I was not surprised how well written it was. 30 minutes flew by.

Easily the best written and acted of the sit coms so far with actual jokes and poignant moments and if any justice we will be seeing an hour long Christmas special.

This suits Nicholas Lyndhurst better than straight acting.

As I have said for years. Write in a part for David Jason and this will do well at Christmas.

Whatever the viewing figures I bet the AIs for this are good.”

It would be interesting to see the AIs for these two shows to compare with the ones we saw for AYBS and Porridge. I would predict Sweetheart getting this highest AI of the four (perhaps around 80) and Young Hyacinth getting a similar figure to AYBS.

Love to see more Ray Tings thanks.

Do you have anything for any CBBC / CiTV shows at that time ? Or any more Daytime ?

The last series started with 4.1m so it was only slightly down. Starting a month earlier (with a weaker Emmerdale) probably caused that. It'll probably go back above 4m as the weeks go on.

I'd definitely expect more stuff like that. 3.5m is a decent rating for an ITV documentary (especially one that didn't go after Corrie) so they'll want more of those. Seems to have been really well received too. I'd imagine they'll want something similar from next week's Trevor McDonald show.

Oh that's not as good as it should have been. I thought that it would have got closer to 5 million.

If Hyacinth received less, then we could be looking at AYBS being the most successful of the revisits

Disappointingly low for GS. I've seen virtually no promotion for it though.

Pity on GS rating, many are posting how good it was, even a postitive article in the Daily Mail on it.

Many going to Twitter etc wanting a full series.

I thought it was very good.

Not great for Goodnight Sweetheart. Obviously we don't know how Young Hyacinth did (EDIT: below 3.56m so not brilliant) but on the whole I think it's fair today these sitcom revivals on BBC1 have been a real damp squib. Considering you're talking about 4 really big sitcoms from the past being revived, the ratings have been very mediocre. I know it's still the tail end of Summer but I expected better. Even AYBS, the highest rating of the 4 was a bit underwhelming for me. If new sitcoms had launched with these numbers they'd obviously be good results but these are big names from years ago that I expected to do a fair bit better.

Not sure whether it's worth doing a series of any of them. The rating for Goodnight Sweetheart suggests there wouldn't be much interest there, although given the positive reaction and the less than favourable slot perhaps it could do a job for them elsewhere. The reactions for AYBS and Porridge suggest the ratings would fall off a cliff for a series of either of those.

Elsewhere, I wonder how badly Lady C did?

Thats a shame. It deserved so much more then that.Poor scheduling not helped and maybe people being disappointed with the other 2 sitcoms put them off trying this one.

Thanks Ray.

Gardener's World is now an hour long format and ran from 8-30-9.30pm. BBC1's comedy hour was low. Wrong night for them.

Poor trailer, that terrible Michael Fish thing with terrible short clips, 5 secs to trail each programme, or 0 secs in the case of Goodnight Sweetheart.

Poor scheduling, shoved on air at this strange end of summer/start of autumn time, on different days of the week. The other non BBC1 parts of this 'season' have been promoted and schedued even worse and hence performed even worse.

I think that's a little harsh to be honest. They are just affectionate tributes playing on pure nostalgia value and are curiosities more than anything else imo. 5 million wasn't bad for AYBS against ITV's grand new drama and we don't yet know the consolidation figures. The sitcom is virtually dead these days so galvanising a significant audience for anything other than perhaps Mrs Brown is no easy task.

There is an obvious distinction with Goodnight Sweetheart in that it was the near original cast-and I do hope they ignore the subdued Friday overnight and go for a series. We could actually have a hit pre-watershed comedy-which are very few and far between. It was very watchable imo.

I wonder what that figure would have been if it had followed Bake Off.

I know not every programme can follow Bake Off, but it would have been interesting to see if the viewers would have hung around for the revivals after Mary and co had finished.
