Correct. National Treasure was commissioned after the Savile scandal. Coltrane plays an entertainer with historic sexual abuse claims brought against him.

I have to agree about One of Us. It's certainly not something that you would want to tune into. I am all for gritty drama at times, but it's a hard sell after a great warm summer and the feel good Olympics.

They could have put it on Fridays at 10.30pm after the News as something different rather than an ancient New Tricks repeat. It might have found a decent home there in the week's before Graham Norton comes back. I know people will say that it shouldn't be on Fridays as it isn't a Friday programme, but does anyone remember ITV's 2 hour programme about the Miners Strike that was on a Friday back in the mid 1980's? Or, the Question Time that was on the Friday after the General election?

In context that rating for Ripper Street is good for a BBC2 drama. BBC2 had a good night in primetime.

mmm.....that is disappointing after a good weekend for ITV and TXF over 8m. I wonder if some viewers didn't watch think it might be a let down. With any luck is might grow from here.

I did say earlier in the week it could be anything from 6m-9pm, but I was expecting a figure in the 7m range.

I daresay Coltrane and Walters could read the phone book and make it compelling. It's a way of examining the Savile/Harris/Hall etc cases in the form of drama as opposed to documentary. All perfectly understandable and exactly what "ripped-from-the-headlines" commissioning should be.

I suppose ITV's philosophy will be "build it and they will come" ... as in, make the shows really decent quality and they will sustain themselves across their runs, hopefully even building.

If they can hook people into shows, it stands that viewers will be so keen to see the next instalment they watch closer to the overnight window than the official one. On that basis, given Cold Feet's positive reaction, it should hold on to that number next week but it could also possibly rise as it's worthy of live (or near-live) viewing?

I think that rating is very good for Cold Feet. I recall someone a few pages back kindly posted the ratings for the fifth series, which were all in the 8's back in 2003. With that in mind, surely above 6m in 2016 is pretty good going?

That is a really good rating for EastEnders last night. Nearly topping Corrie. Is it me or is Jeremy Vine a bit overexposed on TV these days? I think Crimewatch needed to be fronted by a fresh face.

Look at that, the 2nd day of The Chase in its usual 5pm slot after the last couple of weeks of new quizzes and its overtaken Pointless already, despite the latter recieving a 27% share of viewers on Saturday thanks to SCD.

Its odd isn't it. The Chase Celeb Specials don't do that well (mainly because they water down the questions to make it easier), yet the regular editions do phenomenally well.

Pointless Celebrities does well, especially considering its on most of the year now either in rpt form or new episodes, yet the regular edition is starting to weaken.

I really wish ITV would cancel doing to Celeb specials, or at least keep the questions as they would on a regular episode because they make is so easy, which ruins the format.

I find Pointless and Celebrity Pointless irritating these days. It is on too often. I think Richard Osman is the epitome of smugness and the format somewhat boring. It used to be good but now I can't bear to watch it. TV companies just shove anything out ad nauseum until it dies.

I would keep Pointless Celebs and start looking for an alternative to slot into the 5.15pm slot on BBC One. Then alternate like ITV do with The Chase. Pointless and a new show would cut down the repeats of Pointless and provide a little variety for people.

Don't underestimate the power of keeping Tipping Point at 4pm. It gives The Chase a boost at 5pm. When Tipping Point was at 3pm, the 4.30pm programme on BBC1 rated higher and boosted Pointless. How many times did we say on here to keep Tipping Point and The Chase together?

What's strange is how Pointless Celebrities works better on Saturday evenings than Tipping Point/The Chase celebrity specials on Saturday evenings.

They already have an alternative - Doctors repeat from the lunchtime show. Or, they could run the Countryfile/Crimewatch Roadshows there.

I have always wondered why the BBC don't repeat Doctors. It could fit nicely in at 5.30pm with a quiz starting at 5pm or 445pm.

I would like to see something like Counryfile - or a spin off of Countryfile at 5.15pm to replace Pointless for a few weeks a year. I find the constant schedule of Pointless pretty boring. Time to mix it up a bit.

I did enjoy the return to Animal Park recently. 5 episodes wasn't enough. I'd like a new longer series of this and it would be perfect for this slot. it might not get the 2m+ Pointless gets now, but this show is really weakening here. They need to find something that works here (but not placing any old tash here Ejector Seat ITV), but something strong.

Why do people think all dramas need to be relentlessly positive and happy? The whole point of dramas is telling interesting stories. Some of the most interesting stories can be incredibly depressing. I applaud Channel 4 for tackling a subject like they're doing with National Treasure. Line of Duty showed that if it tells a compelling story, people will watch, regardless of it being depressing or having unlikeable characters.

Yes, it's important to life-affirming shows as well, but the answer isn't to just get rid of gritty dramas. They're incredibly popular with the public and it's part of Channel 4's remit to be out there and daring.
