The Mysteries of Laura hit 732,000 consolidated for its penultimate episode on 5USA, its most watched to date in the UK.

Meanwhile Wentworth Prison made a relatively successful transition to 5Star with 421,000, its second new episode in as many days.

Saddam Goes to Hollywood: 0.69m (3.5%)
(inc +1):

Saddam Goes to Hollywood: 820k (4.2%)
That's rather disappointing for what was a fantastic documentary. It was funny, interesting, and factual- a real delight and probably the best documentary I've ever seen. A televisual delight from Channel 4 and unfortunately the ratings didn't do it justice.

Not a fantastic night for C4.
Yes, "Saddam Goes To Hollywood" didn't get the ratings it deserved and Walter Mitty flopped. Probably because the trailer made Walter Mitty look rubbish, which it may well have been. Not sure how it did at the box office but it certainly wasn't a triumph on it's network premiere.

Does anyone know how Toy Story That Time Forgot (which was new) and Finding Nemo did earlier on?

Impressive. Shame it's been cancelled.

Not sure that can be deemed successful. Dropping from 1.04m on Monday to 421,000 on Tuesday means that less than half it's viewers managed the simple switch from Channel 5 to 5STAR. 2 episodes in 2 days is not ideal but if the show is as good as it's fans say, not to have watched the second episode within a week of broadcast is odd.

It's a good rating for 5Star, and I expect they will pick up more seasons if it stays at roughly that level, so from that point-of-view it's a success.

The actual dropoff might have been less if the circumstances had been different, i.e. remaining in the same timeslot + 1 week buildup to fully advertise the change.

But moving from a channel with 4.3% share to a channel with 0.6% share in the space of 24 hours, there will be consequences to that.

The main thing is whether it can find a decent enough level on 5Star so that more seasons can be bought in, and so far so good on that front but obviously very early days.

Full 5Star top 10 to provide a bit of context:

1 HOME AND AWAY (WED 1829) 543,000
2 HOME AND AWAY (MON 1829) 526,000
3 HOME AND AWAY (FRI 1829) 491,000
4 HOME AND AWAY (TUE 1829) 477,000
5 HOME AND AWAY (THU 1829) 460,000
6 WENTWORTH PRISON (TUE 2202) 421,000
7 DANCE MOMS (TUE 1903) 210,000
8 THE MAGICIANS (THU 2102) 199,000
9 WHEN KIDS KILL (WED 2101) 176,000
10 DANCE MOMS (MON 1903) 169,000
Source: BARB.

Wentworth pulling in more than double the audience The Magicians managed, and I imagine the rights are cheaper, plus it's miles clear of anything else bar Home & Away. For a cult Australian drama series that tends to be very dark at times, it's not to be sniffed at.

H&A meanwhile seems to be well up on this time last year (prior to the current hot spell at least) which must be a relief after what feels like years of declines. And Dance Moms is still going well although its progress has been rather halted in recent weeks suggesting it has probably peaked.

Don't get me wrong it's still a good rating for 5STAR, but it's not really a 5STAR show, that's why it has always been on Channel 5, therefore it should be doing better than their 5STAR's other shows by default.

I'm just surprised that less than half the viewers seemed willing to watch the show just because of it was on another channel, despite the different day and time.

They've already picked up the next series anyway.

You made a good point though when you referred to the 7 day window. The figure for the C5 episode also includes everything.

We know from the overnights that less than half a million had watched the C5 episode by 2am Tuesday morning, some 20 hours ahead of the next episode going out on 5Star.

A good percentage of the 600,000 or so that caught up on it will have done so later in the week, way after the next episode had already gone out on 5Star, so they would have had to dig it out on my5 or elsewhere.

The whole thing was poorly executed with a view to maximum retention - but it could have been a lot worse. It could be that in the overnights, i.e. its most loyal viewers, it may have held up rather better as they would have been made aware of the change sooner.

Exellent ratings for The Mysteries Of Laura and Wentworth Prison. Hopefully Wentworth Prison climbs and Channel 5 undoes this silly decision.

I hope I'm not the only 1 who's annoyed with so many Channel 5 shows being moved or postponed for no good reason?

A few notable consolidated ratings from latest the BARB update today:

All including +1:

Containment (E4): 1.41m
Shades of Blue (Sky Living): 731k
Dark Matter (SyFy): 421k
Love Island Final (ITV2): 1.69m
Love Island: Heading Home (ITV2): 1.45m
Coronation Street (Fri 19:30) (ITV): 8.11m
Coronation Street (Fri 20:30) (ITV): 8.47m

Containment made a huge impact on its debut – perhaps hardly surprising considering how long E4 plugged it for. Although, after seeing week 2’s overnight number last week – we know a big fall is coming. Jennifer Lopez’s Shades of Blue started decently for Sky Living. Hopefully it can stay around that number and not fall too far. Dark Matter on SyFy continues to impress. Up on last week’s season premiere and so far both episodes of the second run are up year-on-year. Dark Matter is definitely SyFy’s unsung ratings hero for them.

Love Island concluded, but misses out on a series high for the final – although not by much. Its highest episode was on Tue 5 July which consolidated to 1.80m. The entire series has averaged:

If you include the Saturday highlights shows: 1.33m
If you exclude the Saturday highlights shows: 1.47m

Also worth a note how the Love Island: Heading Home show did too on a huge 1.45m. Both those series averages exclude the Heading Home show.

Finally, Corrie got some decent ratings for Kylie’s death as the Friday double both consolidated to 8m+. The second episode is the shows highest episode since BGT week when the episode on the Thu 26 May consolidated to 9.19m.

Long Lost Family Ep1 consolidated to 5.2m

Brief Encounters Ep2 5.8m

I think Brief Encounters is most definately deserving of a recommission.

From ITV Media:

Saturday Top 10 (inc +1)
5 BBC One - 07:40 PM The National Lottery 2.395m 17%
6 ITV - 07:00 PM Catchphrase 2.301m 17%
Family Reunion quite a bit behind what In It To Win It managed in the same slot over the last couple of weeks. I don't think it's strong enough to play against Factor.

Wasn't Catchphrase getting 4m overnights when the new version was launched? I expect that's on the way out, too.

That's the beauty of three-part dramas. Even when they're turkeys dumped in summer slots, the first episode will rate well in officials, the second will do okay, and who cares about the third?

No wonder ITV used to make so many two-parters and three-parters, despite there being no return potential.

It was getting close to that in overnights this series as well.

Obviously this week's was dented due to the hot weather, but I presume everyone should have rushed indoors to watch Catchphrase before resuming their BBQs

Something does not add up with the EastEnders rating from 04/07/16.

The overnight posted by Ray was: 5.98m (29.0%)

It's official rating as reported last week was 6.42m - an increase of just 0.44m, which is very small for EE.

The figures I have for it are as follows:
Live: 4,304,000
VOSDAL: 1,344,000
Time-shifted: 776,000

= 6,424,000

6.42m (29.0%) - same share oddly in consolidated numbers.

So the consolidated numbers time-check to the minute and strip out any ads. With EE been on BBC1 this doesn't affect things as much as it normally runs to time. This particular episode ran 19:59:17-20:30:28.

If you add together Live + VOSDAL you get 5.65m (which would be the approx. overnight rating on the above data). I wonder what's happened here. A regional variation maybe?!

Consolidated Soap Ratings 2016: So Far:

Coronation Street: 7.56m (inc +1: 7.76m)
EastEnders: 7.03m
Emmerdale: 6.46m (inc +1)*

*NOTE: Only have inc +1 numbers for Emmerdale AND w/e 15th May 2016 and Monday 18th May 2016 ratings are missing. However, it's only 7 episodes that I don't have and it will make very little difference to the above number. If anything, around that time the consolidated numbers were averaging 6.0-6.5m so it will be pretty much 6.5m.
