I never knew Heartbeat was on a Friday it always seemed more of a Sunday thing to me.
Quote:
Heartbeat seems the epitome of Sunday night drama but it started on Fridays at 9pm. ITV saw the ratings and thought oh this is popular and moved it to Sundays but it was a spring show them. I think the third series moved to Autiumn and it became enormous.
There is swearing in series one, of course. |

They always said that Heartbeat started on Fridays at nine because Yorkshire were a bit unsure about it and wanted it in a less exposed slot.

I knew you'd know the story of why Heartbeat started there. I couldn't remember. I believe Cracker started because Grenada had some left over budget and told the drama department to do something with it.

BBC1 and itv have to have cheap filler TV as James says. In the past they could stock primetime with sport, American shows and repeats.
I'm pretty sure Victoria or Poldark will not be repeated in primetime in 9 months time. Repeats and American shows are consigned to the other channels. Sport largely is. Those old ratings lists show how well movies used to rate. Jurassic World or Star Wars VII isn't going to get 6m viewers never mind other films. It's still like that on the big networks in Australia. Lots of sport, American shows and the like. |

This is the thing I think is silly a nice drama could go into this slot such as Wild At Heart. Victoria will be straight onto ITV Encore and will likely be repeated 3 or 4 times before series 2 which I think is pretty much confirmed. The reason movies rate rubbish is because the same movie is shown way to often ITV2 have lost Jurassic Park and Back To The Future now to Sky so we will be seeing less of those, however this week they scheduled Jack And Jill twice!. |

Was Cracker on a Sunday night in a similar slot to Vera?. I'm not sure how popular it was as I've only ever seen 1 episode on ITV3 and thought it was really good. I have the DVD but haven't got round to watching it yet, I'm so behind with TV haha.
Prime Suspect was on Sunday more than Cracker. |

Wednesdasy has always been quite as popular as Tuesday for BBC drama. Just been looking on the BBC Genome website and found out loads of popular series aired on Wednesday's.
These are just a few... Hetty Wainthropp Investigates Waterloo Road Our Zoo Playing The Field The Interceptor Doctor Foster At one point Holby City was on at 9 on a Wednesday to, maybe that was once only though. |

NO. Please post them, ignore those who don't like them.

Love the old ratings. May I ask if you could post ones for around 2005? I'd be interested to see how the soaps were doing in relation to the top dramas and shows like Cowell and SCD. Thanks.
Basically, I'm wondering when EE and CS stopped being the top two shows in the UK. Only occasionally in the last did a show like Only Fools, Morse or Foot in the Grave used to top them. |

Really? It must have been cut out of the current ITV Encore showing, though I've only watched episode 1 so far. I have 7 episodes recorded so will listen out.

And nudity too. In the final episode when Nick Berry gets out of the bath, you get a glimpse of his truncheon.
![]() I seem to remember reading about a topless Niamh Cusack in episode 1, if so it's not shown in the repeats.

Channel 5 has confirmed that when the 50 episode third series of GPs Behind Closed Doors comes to an end later this month, the fourth series will follow directly behind it.
New location is Farnham Road Surgery in Slough. 30 episodes to play out in its regular Wednesday 8pm slot. |

![]() I wanted to talk to you about that cracking rating for the gypsy programme on Channel 5 last night. And on a slightly unsettling note, just noticed I've hit the 50,000 post mark. Not a landmark I'm looking to celebrate. ![]() ![]() Great rating for the C5 doc last night - didn't see that improvement coming. When you look at how ITV performed with factual across the same slot, it emerges with a lot of credit. |

I do wonder what's going to happen with Hotel inspector
notice the return episodes are on very late. and the revamp format had a bit of a "meh" reaction on social media The return episodes don't rate as well as the main series so I can understand keeping it away from 9pm, but they could have handled the scheduling a lot better it's fair to say. I mean, they have absolutely NOTHING on Sundays at the moment - things are so bad they are having to show that Bermuda Triangle doc again this week which has been on countless times before. So to be slinging out a C5 favourite, albeit not fully new, outside peak with no promotion whatsoever is bizarre to say the least - it should be on Sundays at 8pm followed by a big movie. |

Gypsy Kids did very well, factual has been pretty solid for 5 lately with Dog Rescuers cracking 1m, Can't Pay doing well. I do think scheduling is an issue, Sundays are a mess, it should be movies both classic and new |

Speaking of ITV's crime dramas - Does anyone know what night Vincent, the Ray Winstone thing from about 10 years ago, was on? I think it was midweek and it always rated well, not sure why they never did any more of them.
