Yes, the auditions finish next Saturday. I don't think it'll match that 8.3m again but it could do a little bit more next week.

A bit disappointing all round for ITV. The game shows just don't work in the 7pm slot, why have they not had the sense to put something else there? X Factor should be higher. Newzoids should also be above 3 million.
And Jonathon Ross, why even bother? Should be stuck at 10:40pm on a Friday night. |

I don't think they should have a theme every week. As you say too many of them are vague or repetitive. I'd have around 4 theme weeks scattered across the series (one being Halloween) and go big on them, with studio decorations, outfits, graphics etc. The Halloween show in 2014 was brilliant because they really went for it in a way they hadn't before, so they should do more of that and just not bother with themes outside of those weeks. I like the idea of a mentor switch (on one of the non-theme weeks, as the mentors could choose any song). Keep the week where the public picks the song as well.

I'm not sure about ditching them completely as the themes give a hook to the show itself but they can go with bland themes so the focus is on the performances themselves (Number Ones, 21st Century, British Songbook, USA) and have a couple of weeks where the theme controls the show (Halloween definitely, maybe they should have a Musical week?! It'd be fascinating to see how the show handled that one!) Quote:
Oh c'mon, it isn't that bad.
It faced a competition with (probably) around double the numbers of what there was last year (a lottery quiz). What exactly were people expecting? You honestly don't think losing 900k on last week isn't that bad? I'll freely admit it isn't a disaster but it's not great either. |

Pointless 3.57m Casualty 3.91m BBC1 Proms 3.12m BBC2 Proms 1.16m David Croft 1.02m Paralympics at 7.30 1.03m Last Leg 1.39m Paralympics at 9pm 1.56m Football on 5 Part 1 570k Part 2 370k Beck 460k Xtra Factor 440k Thinking about it, a little bit of XF's younger audience was probably taken by The Last Leg and I'd expect the same to be the case for the remainder of the Paralympics. Not so bad for Casualty against XF, the 30th has given it and Holby a bit of a lift. Perhaps playing Casualty against XF in the whole Strictly gap isn't a bad idea for next year and trying something else when the audience goes awol from ITV after XF. All round though those aren't great figures as the weather wasn't great yesterday. |

Not so good for X but I think tonight's rating is going to be the real sign.

From rzt:
Inc +1 The X Factor : 7.44m (35.7%) *peak: 8.39m (40.3%) at 20.50 Go For it: 2.77m (16.2%) Newzoids : 2.83m (15.1%) Jonathan Ross show: 2.23m (12.4%) Aldo feedback on last weeks XF show on the XF forum was disapproving and last nights gas had a negative response. Lots of negative tabloid articles on it are not helping, and we most likely will see a lot more turn off, as the " The Emperor's New Clothes " dawns on viewers that it's not new, it's exactly what it was before. Changing the coaches to three over 60s on a youth targeted show has failed. Nick Grimshaw was at least in the target audience area, loosing him as a scapegoat was a backwards move with this very old feeling panel. |

It's a shame Newzoids isn't doing well. I think it's pretty funny and the perfect slot for it.

It's strange to recall that, I think, the first two series didn't have theme weeks. They only really took hold in series three.

I meant more, if tonight's is significantly down week on week.

The Paralympics took some viewers from BBC1 and ITV.

Extremely disappointing rating for the ailing XF, a continued dip, as I posted before last weekend, XF was propped up last week, by SCD being on before it with very high ratings. But without SCD it suffered.

Although I'm being critical of The X Factor the real poor rating which stands out there is Last Night of The Proms. It's been in the 4m's for as long as I can remember so a sudden dip into the low 3's is very odd indeed - even taking into account the Paralympics it had a better and, on paper, more compatible lead in than year and... though I can't be sure of this... less of a clash with The X Factor? Another stand out rating for me is Football League Tonight. If we're pointing the finger at the Paralympics for hurting ratings elsewhere it looks like Football League Tonight may have just bottomed out as, from what I can recall, it's remained pretty steady. I don't know that they necessarily need them to give a hook to the show, although I'd agree that you wouldn't want a big theme taking over every week. They did a musical week on American Idol years ago and Cowell hated it so I doubt they'll go down that route. I think Mark Sidaway (exec producer) has said he wouldn't do it in the past as well. I'd being back the celebrity guest mentors in certain weeks as well, they added a bit to the VTs.

'Extremely disappointing' is pushing it a bit. It was never going to be close to last week which was inflated due to SCD. Last Sunday had 7.5m viewers and last night was well up on the opening weekend. It's also more or less flat year on year. All things considered, it was a solid rating.

It had 8.3m viewers last week and lost 0.9m of them. That is pretty disappointing. If people enjoyed the show they would have returned; as it did a sizeable number didn't.
"Ratings are down so people mustn't have enjoyed it" is a tad one-dimensional in 2016's complex ratings environment. The second weekend's shows were received very well. |

SCD was last weeks appointment viewing TV which brought more viewers in, and most shows were boosted due to a larger floating audience. That audience simply wasn't there last night. |

Or maybe you're just ignoring every single external factor such as competition, weather, etc.
"Ratings are down so people mustn't have enjoyed it" is a tad one-dimensional in 2016's complex ratings environment. The second weekend's shows were received very well. To lose almost a million viewers suggests that the audience weren't particularly impressed. It also looks like SCD meant there were a few more viewers around last week. |
