Mary and Paul have both said they won't do it unless it's the BBC so ITV would be mad to take it.

I am saddened and appalled by the decision. It just builds my resentment to ITV. Money talks and BBC will never have a hit again. It is now an uphill struggle for BBC. The product placement will be rediculous.
Love Productions have seen the £££ and I bet were really hard on BBC. Oh I am annoyed by all this.

Unreal that people can blame the BBC. Just how far do you go to satisfy the greed of a commercial production company? I'm sure they offered the highest they possibly could given it's licence fee payers money, the current political environment and the knowledge that others were after it too. This is completely down to Love Productions.
I'm absolutely gutted. I've watched it since it began and loved it. If ITV get it it will be a completely different programme. Ok, those who hate it will be delighted that the BBC have lost it, but for fans of it it's sad.

Viewers don't love adverts I think that's pretty much a certainty
It's unlikely but if Channel 4 or 5 got it, it would help the 8pm hour for both channels, 5 have been doing solidly but even if Bake Off only did 5m it's still a huge hit

Wow I didn't know. But at least it will be down a grade or two on ITV.
Is there a possibility that now it's officially off the BBC, there will still be a bidding war between others until the final victor emerges? I wonder if Channel 4 could be a shock result? ITV would be fuming of course.

Agree with both of these posts. Whatever happened to old fashioned chivalry in this country? If one channel has a hit, the other throws a paddy and wants it for themselves. I think everyone should boycott Bake Off from this week.

How much bigger can you get than promoting the show from BBC Two to prime time BBC One, a move which was instrumental in making the show the hit that it is? That, plus the fact the BBC was home to Sewing Bee and the Pottery Throw Down.

What an overreaction.
Money is the way of the world, unfortunately. It's certainly no reason to not watch a programme you enjoy.
Also, unless you were privy to exactly what went on, it's hard to say whether or not Love Productions were demanding too much or whether it was more the case that the BBC undervalued it and refused to budge out of stubbornness.
Given it's their most watched programme by a long long way and still growing, was it really unreasonable of Love Productions to expect them to pay more? Because I certainly don't think it was.

If BBC cant afford it then i doubt 4 or 5 will its between ITV and SKY
But there is a clause in the contract that there will be no series in 2017 if the BBC lost the contract

Agree. Got to make the most of this series now, because Bake Off won't be the same again. It's not just the adverts, it's the contestants they'll pick, the fact there will probably be new judges and presenters, it's just not going to be the same at all.

Assuming itv get it - which I think is inevitable now - I actually think Mel, Sue, Paul and Mary will just go over. All of them have some kind of background in commercial television and Mel and Sue are no strangers to itv. The cheques will be out again in force to lure them.

I agree. The BBC have their belt tightened - I love Bake Off on the BBC and really wish it could stay, but in a way I would rather they let it go if it means they keep the money for other things. They could have kept Bake Off and then had to sacrifice other parts of the schedule. I'm sure the BBC have done what is in the best interests of licence fee payers. I will keep thoroughly enjoying this series. I am gutted it's going though, as it just feels like a cosy BBC show.
I will be interested to see if the on screen talent move across or not. If they do, surely a commercial channel would keep the show exactly the same? As it's already striking gold in all demographics, so why revamp anything?
If the on screen talent does change, then I can see the show being revamped and the feel of the show being different. Interesting times ahead.

Will that clause be waivered? It's happened before with the BBC losing sports rights.

It would be extremely interesting if it went to Channel 5. It could completely transform the channel.

This is getting more than a little silly now I'm afraid.
When was the last time something remotely like this even happened? It's so incredibly rare.
But then, Bake Off is a bit of a unique beast. And with obvious commercial appeal that could not be fully exploited where it was.
