1.5 million for Big Brother is pretty good I think... I gave up on the series when they bodged the second house twist (what a waste of that investment) and insisted on keeping the baying mob booing and jeering.

The lack of a feed, even for an hour, each night, didn't help either. They're bringing it back for Celebrity and it's obvious that helps with buzz/tweets/viewer investment. If they had any sense they'd reinstate that for the main series. It would add hundreds of thousands to the series average I think.

It's done well to keep the viewers hooked IMO with the cast alone because the production was awful. Based on overnights it had one of the smallest drops ever from launch to final... 1.6m to 1.5m. But i reckon it could surpass that when the timeshift comes in 2 weeks time.

Agree about the feed. They obviously care more about CBB otherwise they wouldn't have feed for that and none for the normal one.

EastEnders in the 4m region? 10 years ago it would have been axed

Mad to think people are now happy with 1.5m watching the final of BB. Six years ago that would have been awful for a Saturday night. Its a different beast now and surely hasnt got more then a few years left in the normal series

First of all... 6 years ago the show was on C4. Completely different.

And if we were to be picky, this series has averaged higher than the first show on C5 which aired 5 years ago. So, to have a show 5 years on getting higher ratings than when it started it's inception on the channel, is not bad at all.

Lets compare X Factor and the soaps to how they did 5 years ago, shall we? Have they increased? They have probably halved (well i know X Factor has!)

Didn't it clash with Emmerdale last night?

Yes it did, but it still was able to hold 6/7 million with a clash back in the day.

Eh? Any of the big three soaps would be lucky to get 6 or 7 million in the overnights for their regular, non-clash slots these days. To get over 4m in a clash-slot, during the summer in 2016? It's not brilliant but it's not too shabby, either.

In any case, no long-running programme looks too clever when you observe such contrasts between 2016 and 2006 but that's a sign of the multi-channel, multi-media times we now live in in 2016.

First series aired against a robust autumn schedule on other channels. It's not comparable.

Exactly, Strange But True? was axed in 1997 when it fell to 6 - 7 million viewers. At its height we were getting over 12 million.

6 - 7 million for any documentary series today would see it win awards!

I made a documentary for BBC 2 in 1996 and i forget the exact rating (over 2 million) but it beat a new Star Trek in the ratings. Mine was a one off. Star Trek is still around.

These things are all very relative.

And this series aired against the Euros which was averaging 7-10m for normal matches and over 14m for England matched which is more than the 5m raters that aired in October 2011, dramas which weren't in the same demo.

We've seen some appalling ratings for these kinds of dramas over the last year or so: Strange/Norrell, Jekyll/Hyde, Beowulf and now Living/Dead.

Mercifully, the BBC offerings had shorter runs.

EastEnders went down to 3.9m in a clash in July 2006, and Emmerdale was a few million ahead, so the new member for this week's clash didn't do enough research.

Does anyone have the link to the BBC Summer trailer that you guys have been referring too on here? I've looked on youtube and searched for it elsewhere, but I can't find it. Thanks

Two things I note from Radio Times.

Next week they are showing the last two episodes of series 2 of Boy Meets Girl on Wednesday and Thursday at 10 pm.

Ratings have not been reported since episode 1 of series 2 but that was under half series 1 so this decision (unless it was forced by the Olympics maybe?) suggests a burn off of what will be the last ever episodes.

Personally I like the series, but not enough viewers do watch it seems so I will not be surprised if that is what happens given the figures,

And The Chase is getting a two week rest at 5 pm Monday to Friday replaced by a new quiz Cash Trapped.

Interestingly this is a format devised by Bradley Walsh (who also presents). He has played it with family and friends for years seemingly. The Deal or No Deal banker is also producing so it has a good pedigree.

The format looks interesting - six contestants fight it out and try to sabotage one another as they amass cash. The one with the most then squares off against the other five. If the one with the most wins this duel they take the pot. If they lose they come back the next day but start again with nothing.

'No one leaves until someone wins' is its catchphrase.

Be interesting to see how this goes.

The Radio Times says the rules are complicated and it sounds it. I'll give it a try but it'll probably be no The Chase.

The new TV Times has a feature on forth-coming daytime shows, which includes Alphabetical, a 10-part quiz hosted by Jeff Sterling on ITV in August. I expect this will replace Cash Trapped and The Chase will probably start its new series on the August Bank Holiday.

The TV Times article also reveals that The Chase has recently filmed its 1,000th episode.

It'd be nice if one of these The Chase replacements becomes a returning hit, but I know what will happen.

Half the audience will just turn over and watch Pointless before even a minute has aired.

Everyone else won't give it a chance as 'its not as good as The Chase', as if there is a rule where only one quiz show must exist at anyone time.

And so would many other programmes, but we are in 2016 in an age of 100's of channels, mostly full of crap and with many different platforms to watch tv. 4 million is 4 million and is nothing to be sniffed at. Emmerdale did well last night against EastEnders reversing last week's clash where EastEnders was marginally ahead.

The thing with these 5pm quizzes is that they start below the previous, but they need to grow. If its good, it will grow.

But yes, Pointless will get its highest audience during this period than it has all year.

Given that it's during the Olympics with Pointless on BBC Two I doubt that.
