Really C5 should have gone got it.”
Not sure why they should, I like it on the BBC. It's not to say a commercial station couldn't make Premier League highlights work, but that particular contract, at that particular time, was not considered worth it for what it gave them. Yes, they could have hired a lot of people - BT didn't even have any channels when they won live rights - but for the resources you'd have to commit to it, they decided it wasn't worth it. One obvious reason is that on Saturday night they'd have used up all their advertising minutage on The X Factor.

The whole thing seems like a transfer on football Deadline Day. A lot of money thrown about, very few clear details ironed out & general unease about the whole thing (quite a few footballing examples there).”
I like that. It actually reminds me a bit of when ITV poached Trinny and Susannah, but didn't buy the rights to What Not To Wear because it was a BBC format. So they ended up doing a load of contrived shows that were a bit like What Not To Wear but not as good, and What Not To Wear continued on the Beeb (it wasn't a massive hit, but then it wasn't before that, really), and it was a total waste of time and money.

Well, someone I follow on Twitter said yesterday, before the news it was going to C4 broke, that he would put a tenner on the next series of Bake Off being on BBC1. I think the odds have got a bit shorter now.
