I think ITV should use the 10pm slot after popular dramas and comedy-dramas to launch new comedies. There's been talk about it, but a good way to launch a new sitcom on ITV, I think, would be to air it at 10pm after something like Doc Martin, Cold Feet or Benidorm. You'd have a big (and relevant) lead-in but away from the glare of the 9pm slot and with a bit less pressure. It's how Benidorm started out back in 2007. I'm sure they'd have plenty of flops, but that's the nature of the beast and if they could get something good out of it then it'd be worthwhile.”
Doc Martin is definate. Both Martin Clunes and Ian McNiece have confirmed this to be the last series.
Benidorm is not 100% definate, but I think its likely. Tbh I think Benidorm should have ended (or at least had a couple of years break) after series 7. Series 8 was a shambles.
Yes I'd like to see some comedy at 10pm. Ideally it would be better for ITV to grow comedy on ITV2 or ITV3, but given their smaller reach (in comparison to to BBC2) its not really viable. And going after the News won't work either, as that lead in would be no higher than 2.5m.
I know ITV said they are struggling to find comedy to commission, but they do have upcoming comedy (Pilot ATM I think) with Courtney Cox.
In other news Davina McCall series 'This Time Next Year' will be auring soon. I suspect this will take over from All Star Mr & Mrs at 8pm on Wednesday. Also The Level will launch on Friday, the week after HJoanna Lumley concludes.
