Mary Berry "won't be signing anything" and "is very happy with the BBC" according to her husband this morning.

Jamie Oliver has already expressed interest in participating as a judge.
She's either not switching or she's playing hard to get. She's go a fabulous bargaining position unless the show really is happy to change judges. It's risky but it could extend the life of the show.

Oliver is a bit too Marmite. But he's a world class chef and a big name. The female judge would play off him.

They've bought the brand of 'The Great British Bake Off' and seemingly thought all four would move with the show. It's said that C4 knew at the time of deal that the presenters had not signed for it but I do believe that C4 would have thought 'there's no way Paul, Mary, Sue and Mel would quit the UK's most watched show' - well two down two to go.
Is this another triumph for Jay Hunt ?

Depends. We could all be sitting here in 2 years with the new look GBBO getting 5 - 6 million viewers an episode which would be amazing for C4.

Or stripped weekday nights at 5pm due to lower than expected numbers, and then of course - Bake Off Live ! (well it might happen one day)

And by that time the resentment has built up further for depriving the audience of a full 2017 series. C4's compromise offering of a celeb stopgap just won't do it.

I don't quite understand what C4 have actually bought - a tent in a field, some cooking facilities, napkins, a title, that's about it. Surely you can't copyright the act of baking ? Extraordinary that they didn't talk to the presenters before doing the deal.
They've bought a huge brand and format. A show that could build and build up again and last 10 years. Rather like the new Top Gear. Yes you halve the overnights and people throw shade but if you can grow incrementally you have extended the lifespan.

The problem for Top Gear was the cash cow nature of the UK version.

So according to Love Production, any skill based competition is copyrighted by them as they were the first and only people to ever think of such a format?!!

Unbelievable aragunt!
Love Productions haven't endeared themselves to some people in the TV industry over their actions from what I've been told.

One Of Us ended on a low did it not?
Not quite.
3.55m (18.1%) for the second episode.

I think CH 4 wanted to sign without thinking of the consequences as the speed the deal was done on Monday was breathtaking - they then thought they could negotiate with the talent but as has been seen if 4 hadnt rushed in then the talent may have come aboard

True. Also some shows are a lot easier to host than others. Top Gear was not about the cars. Hosts certainly can add value as Ant and Dec show with Celebrity.

I've only seen one episode of GBBO so I'm far from an expert. Certainly Alan Carr can do the Carry On Are You Being Served innuendo very well.
Alan Carr can be Marmite too. All of his recent vehicles have flopped and his chat show isn't as big as it was. But you never know.

Yes there's been a lot of furious calls round today, as I understand it. Our company has already had to redo a contract for something we're making because the channel want to make sure they have the first refusal rights.

I think the BBC might go the route of producing big formats in-house as well, potentially depriving the indie sector of some lucrative work.

Who will be the new presenters of the GBBO? Official announcement on 'This Morning' at 10:30am.

But Ch 4 and Love Productions say the tweet is wrong

Official announcement is that Holly and Phil aren't doing it! Pretty risible way to get people to watch.

Bit of backtracking now according to the Radio Times - it may be a look at who is in the running rather than an official announcement

Doubt Ch 4 would have found a replacement within 24 hours when they have almost a year so can take their time and get it right

Radio Times ‏@RadioTimes 2m2 minutes ago

Stand down. @thismorning is NOT about to announce who is replacing Mel and Sue.

It was just a rundown of the odds with them at 100-1 followed by the "official announcement" they're not doing it. The equivalent of clickbait.

It's no exaggeration to say Love Productions have damaged indie relations with broadcasters and some indies are angry with Love because of this. And what one TV person said to me yesterday about Love. It'd make a docker blush!

He is. To be fair, most celebrities are. Carr and Oliver are too Channel Foury in my opinion. They'll work it out.

I assume people want the new show to be good and a success. If you like it, surely you want to keep enjoying it? This would be the same if Gogglebox moved to BBC1 (for instance).

Channel 4 (exc. +1)
The Last Leg: Live from Rio: 1.81m (9.6%)
Paralympics 2016 (9pm-1am): 1.36m (12.0%)
Paralympics Highlights (7.30pm): 1.17m (6.5%)

Channel 4's #Paralympics coverage peaked with 2.4m viewers as Ellie Simmonds won Bronze in the pool. Avg audience of 1.4m, +93% on slot

Thanks Ray.

The Paralympics are doing great business for Channel 4 and The Last Leg in particular. Great way for new people to sample the show.

This Morning just gets worse. It's pure trash now.

And what an absolute cheek running the Phil and Holly titles when Ruth and Eamonn, part of the regular presenting line-up, are on. If I were either Ruth or Eamonn, I would be mightily pissed about that.

It's the Ratings Thread, discussing possibly the biggest news in TV this year (or decade) which is centred around the highest rated TV show at the moment.

Hope this helps.

To be fair that is a really decent line up.
