If the rumours are true about the obscene amounts of money (I'm talking mid 7 figures here) that Channel 4 are offering Paul and Mary, then I'm even more amazed that they seem to be heading towards sticking with the beeb.

So the BBC should not keep the sewing or pottery shows? Are they popular? *Genuine question*

And yet the Mel and Sue presser made it clear that they would not switch as they aren't obsessed about money. Not a nice thing to say when youre friends haven't decided what to do.

Ant and Dec make over £4m per year. £1m seems justifiable. If they're important to the show.
Like someone else said, it's crazy money and could afford them financial protection, but their long term work prospects might be better sticking with the BBC. |

Clickbait nonsense produces the publicity they were after:

I'd wager they know more about it than the press do. Mel, Sue, Paul and Mary have negotiated together on their contracts in the past, so it wouldn't surprise me if they already know what Mary and Paul will do. The agents have a duty to at least make the offers but I've got a feeling they'll drop out soonish.
Heck Love could promise to donate £1m extra to charity as part of the charity version. These are the things that Love should be trying if they really want to keep them. |

I think it's pretty telling about what the situation is like at the moment. Paul and Sue have both remained silent on twitter since the news broke on the 12th, Mary hasn't had anything posted to her facebook since the same time.
It wouldn't surprise me if they genuinely had no idea about the move to channel 4. That could be a huge factor in them deciding to go or not - can they trust Love Productions when they can't even keep the talent up to date on the situation? |

What I heard (and it's also mentioned on twitter) was that they're being offered about 10x what they get now for one series, and if I remember rightly, they were on about £600,000 for the last series.
Like someone else said, it's crazy money and could afford them financial protection, but their long term work prospects might be better sticking with the BBC. C4 should be offering new shows, pet projects for them. |

Maybe but what if Paul changed his mind? As has been said, this could buy houses for his grandkids. He could collect an extra million and donate it to cancer research. Wouldn't that be more noble than not switching?
Heck Love could promise to donate £1m extra to charity as part of the charity version. These are the things that Love should be trying if they really want to keep them. Paul's welcome to change his mind of course, but I don't think he will. He has a very good relationship with the BBC - they made him, after all, and I think he knows that. |

Not sure that emotional blackmail is a good card to play with him or us (scheduling the 2017 special as part of the Stand-up to Cancer cause).

They aren't getting £6m each. That's more than Ant and Dec get and they are the most bankable people on TV. Ant and Dec have three huge shows; they're as important to Celebrity as the trio were to Top Gear.
C4 should be offering new shows, pet projects for them. Of course, if you have better sources, please say so. |

The money's nice, sure, but I don't think Paul or Mary are that type of person. I think in the eyes of the public, going to Channel 4 would be seen as going for the cash, no matter what he does with it.

Depends what son offer - from what I have read the new contract means 40hours of Bake Off and related programmes a year - that is just screen time not including the filming so its a big increase in work load for an 81 yr old
Will the contract be exclusive? Would Channel4 books want to be sole publisher of any further books done by the pair Do they get to do other programmes for Channel4 - Paul has a car related series coming on the BBC soon |

![]() This is a ratings thread and we're discussing the biggest rating show on TV moving channels, adding adverts, losing presenters and possibly judges and the channel paying the most for a TV show contract outside of X Factor and BGT and possibly the lingering privatisation of the channel it's going to as a result. If you can't see how that's anything to do with ratings then you're obviously not thinking properly. |

Yes they did, but what he's saying is that using the "charidee" option of a donation to a cancer charity as part of the contract is emotional blackmail and not a good idea.
The show will be more successful with you guys. So if you sign up we have a sponsorship deal lined-up which means we can increase the prize fund for the charity show by £x amount. If you come, we can pay everyone more. |

I think you underestimate just how much Channel 4 are willing to do to get them to sign on. Trust me, £6m each is being considered as an opening offer by people in the know.
Of course, if you have better sources, please say so. |

To be fair, Love Productions are not wrong to sell the format to the highest bidder, it is in the nature of private companys, C4 is wrong for paying £75m when key talent was not secured.
