I like Matt Forde but that show was flabby. There's probably a tight half-hour hiding somewhere in there but I daresay they'll keep going at an hour because it's dirt-cheap to make and more lucrative with more ad slots to sell. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't great either. Brigstocke's old show on BBC4 was a much better version of what he was trying to do last night.

So, what that story tells us is that ITV are planning a chat show, and they want famous people to be on it. Someone has gone through the Radio Times and made a list of some famous people who they might like to be on it. I like the way it isn't even a wish-list, but a list of people who might be on a wish-list. Stop the presses!

Its a weak drama that shoud never have been recomissioned. Stephen Tomkinson is so wooden in this role.
This is the type of Police procederal on ITV that you can firmly put into the bracket of 'bland'. If there's nothing else on you'd watch it, but any sort of competition and it falters.
I don't think its a coincidence that Our Girl rose 400k or so exactly as much as Bake-Off week-on-week.

Bit of a dig there, perhaps in response to "we're not going with the dough" from M&S? I wonder if that was sanctioned by P&M as they seemingly attempt to secure a humongous payday?

Yes excellent rating for Can't Pay. 2m is fantastic. Clearly some of the GBBO audience looking for something to watch.
I wouldn't blame Paul & Mary for staying with the show. Why should they give up a show they clearly love doing just because it has moved channels? Regardless of the pay packet (which I'm sure they'll consider, they'd be idiots not to), if they enjoy doing it then why not carry on?
Plus, surely they'd just be depriving millions of fans of the show they love? Mel & Sue already have done in order to make a statement, which was all very noble of them but ultimately whether they agree with what's happened or not, the show could have continued in pretty much the exact same form for the millions of fans it has, had they not left. For that reason I wouldn't blame Paul & Mary for moving with it.
I can see the arguments for not moving and taking a BBC deal as well, but I don't think it makes them awful people (as some on here seem to be making out) if they decide to stay with the show.

Mel and Sue stuck to their principles and everything they said publicly. Kudos to them. I don't always like their work, and their political views, Sue's at least, conflict with mine. But, I wholeheartedly respect and admire them for what they did. They certainly don't have the money Paul and Mary have yet it seems for the very rich, the only thing you're interested in is how much richer you can get. If Mary signs, I'll forever label her a greedy hypocrite because if she genuinely, 100% meant what she said before, she wouldn't even be entertaining talks with C4.

Awful no. Mary Berry will never be an awful person. Hypocrite? Yes. If people say one thing in a firm and convincing way and then do the opposite because of money, it makes them a hypocrite.

Jay Hunt *has* blacklisted Mel and Sue from Channel 4 projects. I can't say the exact wording or anything but it's obvious from what has been said to people in the industry that if you pitch a show with Mel and Sue as potential hosts, Channel 4 won't bite.

Mary is said to be very loyal to the BBC but Paul is thinking about wanting to stick with Bake Off regardless of the channel. I suspect you're right. I don't understand why ITV don't show both parts over two nights like BBC One do with Silent Witness. It would increase the overnight ratings, as people don't have to wait a whole week for Part 2.
