Have we now reached the stage where every single person who's ever been on the telly making "an announcement" is going to be linked with Bake Off? No slight on you, of course, it's on whoever wrote this "report" in the first place. Is everyone else going to be linked with it as well? If that is the case I am OFFICIALLY ruling myself out of going on it.

The Jamie Oliver "link" the other day seemed a bit tenuous as well, as far as I can see he was interviewed by Now magazine (presumably ages ago) and said he liked it and would like to be on it. There probably wasn't even a vacancy when he said it.

Anyway, as mentioned, Xander is a very good singer and his last LP sold very well.

Paul Hollywood would kill his career going to Channel 4, it would be utter madness. GBBO will lose millions and millions of viewers on Channel 4.. Why be apart of show that WILL decrease in size?

If Paul stays with the BBC, his stock will be enormous. He's just been a key part of the highest rated British television show which came from nothing. The only male out of the four, too. An interview show and Top Gear could be incredible for his career and take him to a completely new level.

Hearing that we might get some sort of announcement today. No word on who will be announcing though.

Oh and Sewing Bee/Great Pottery throwdown won't move to Channel 4, as they're on a different cycle of contracts. The deal with Channel 4 includes Extra Slice, Creme de la Creme and Junior Bake-Off.

He would not kill his career though unless he does a bad job. There are plenty of successful shows on C4. GBBO might halve in ratings but that's still probably more than what he'd get elsewhere.

Going by this thread, Paul isn't very popular so why would a show centred around him be successful?
Can he do a chat show? That's a very difficult art to master. And I'm not sure at all that he should want to go near Top Gear.

It's hard to imagine an audience more dissimilar to GBBO than Top Gear's. People forget that GBBO is one of the most ridiculed show on TV. Rather like XF, SCD and BGT, those who don't watch it often mock those who do watch it.

Don't know about a derisory offer as Mel & Sue would be on more money. They just didn't want Bake Off to leave BBC1. On the day of the switch Sue Perkins retweeted the BBC press release about hoping it'd stay. They didn't want to leave and weren't going to.

I assume this has been done before but why not change it up and film it centred around the murderer's point of view? Do it well and the audience might want the murderer to escape justice.

I think it was deemed derisory by their agents because it was only about a 10% increase on what they're paid now. Their agents weren't taking offers to them anyway as they weren't interested.

To fundamentally misunderstand their value to the "brand" to that degree lays all involved open to more charges of incompetence. It surely must've been intended to be read as a direct snub to them to get them to do what they did, effectively resigning so Hunt/Love wouldn't have to take the blame for getting rid.

How could anyone watch GBBO and not realise you need all the moving parts to make it work in the same way? Are C4 so arrogant that they think just anyone parachuted in will do the job just as well? It's not bloody Dr Who!

I suspect that doesn’t necessarily mean that the shows will be renewed though. Sewing Bee was doing very well on BBC2, but it was reported a couple of months that it hadn’t been renewed. There’s a significant chance that the soured relationship between LP and the BBC will mean problems for ongoing work between the two. Selfishly, I could live without the pottery show, as I never really got into it in the same way, but really want the Sewing Bee kept, as I really enjoy that one.
