1.58m incl +1 for Celebrity Big Brother. Disappointing drop, only up 30k on last summer.
Edit- I guess the final of Masterchef brought the likes of that and First Dates down it seems. |

MasterChef clearly hurt CBB. That was an unfortunate clash on night two.
Does Rugby League always do that badly on BBC2? |

Does Rugby League always do that badly on BBC2? Rugby League looks poor. |

What happened to BBC2? Why would they fill up the schedule with Rugby League if no one watches it?
Decent night for Channel 4. |

Decent night for Channel 4. I suspect now they know, they may change tactic and not show rugby league in primetime if there isn't a demand for it? |

Football on 5: The Championship & Goal Rush is back a week today to have their ratings laughed at for the next 9 months. Well by me at least. The FA/EFL are ruining league Football.

They have also renamed the programme Football On 5 after the previous incarnation was called Football League Tonight. At least they're trying but it does seem like too little, too late at this stage. |

It will be back on the BBC as soon as the contract ends I'm sure, but let's not pretend it was a huge rater on there either because it absolutely wasn't, even with the most perfect lead-in going in the shape of MOTD. The gamble was always on the 9pm slot boosting viewership. When it became clear immediately from the first set of figures that it wasn't going to, it was effectively game over for Football League Tonight there and then. And now it's just a case of seeing out the remainder of the contract. |

Channel 5 have sacked Kelly Cates and hired BT Sport's Lindsey Hipgrave in an attempt to boost ratings. How they think replacing one experienced sports presenter with another is going to improve the ratings is a mystery to me.

Exactly. Said poster reverting to type (displayed on here last year and before). Disappears for a good while and returns - a couple of weeks in and here we go again...
![]() On The Ratings thread, that original post was not productive, I generally do not post here now, as a couple of posters like to attribute names to people who have different opinions to thier own. Masterchef had a very good mix of very well known Celebrities this year, hence good ratings, IACGMOOH have to pay ££££££ and end up with the toxic Nigel Farage. I do not think it's relevant if posters post here day in day out or " disappear " some do not live on the Internet or this forum, or thread year round. |

The quality of celebs on Masterchef is irrelevant imo. It's an entertaining format. That's why I watch anyway. For the record I think they tend to do pretty well in the celebrities they attract.

Channel 4 only just got over the million mark, so compared to BBC2 okish? but nothing to dance in a circle about.
I suspect now they know, they may change tactic and not show rugby league in primetime if there isn't a demand for it? As for Channel 4, their sleazy trash offerings like Naked Attraction deserve the falter. There's nothing they show apart from news and racing, which they're losing in December, I'd go near and no wonder their programmes are struggling to get a million. |

Last year this show was completely reviled by the press, ratings sometimes fell as low as 300,000, but doubled its ratings this year and will have a third series. Also I'd imagine many of its viewers won't remember the infamous celeb version on ITV 1 and this is a different format. |

Been out of the loop on here for a while, but it looks like this summer's underwhelming BB is affecting CBB, as BBC News website has reported the launch was half a million down on the last series.

Also I can remember the first CBB launch on Channel 5 peaking at 5.5 million and being the station's most watched programme since an England game in 1997.

The winter version launches with an average of 2.9m whereas the summer series launches with an average of 2.4m. The normal series looks to have been the highest since the 2013 series. You really are out of the loop.

Read the article as opposed to just the headline.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-36923554 A very harsh headline I thought. But at least they had the decency to point out the more significant fact that it was up year-on-year a short way down. Unfortunately, a lot of people like Glenn will just look at the headline, which is very misleading in this case. |

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-36923554 I don't know why Channel 5 doesn't axe BB and spend the money on CBB, which tends to rate a million higher. Interest in BB is so low now even the Daily Star has almost given up and I did read Dancc saying the show should be axed now. OTOH today is a very important day for ratings as it's the 50th anniversary of England winning the World Cup. It was estimated 33 million people watched the final( 62 per cent of the population) and probably those without televisions( about 10 per cent of the population) would have listened on the BBC LIght Programme. If you include those listening on the radio as well as television who liked football, the final audience figure would be 35 million. |

I was at school and had a newspaper delivery round from the shop directly opposite the old church in Manchester from which the first run of Top of the Pops was transmitted before it moved to a proper studio. I used to see the acts being brought in early to rehearse in secret and discovered from someone there how to listen to the rehearsals by re-tuning our radiogram thingy (or TV I forget) to a certain non channel frequency that picked up the sound only. This was great fun for a while because I knew who was on each show in advance and I got a reputation for being a 'witch' until I explained how I knew! But by 1966 it had long since moved from what was the BBCs original home in the City. Though we picked up audio from other things made there (they made some comedy movies there even before BBC TV moved in). My rounds were seven days a week, twice a day (except Sunday - where I got evenings off). I was paid ten shillings a week for this job which involved a mile cycle ride there and then back and a long ride around some rambling old cotton baron houses. That evening 50 years ago right now I recall how everyone was watching TV on the houses that I could see through the windows - or at least the ones which had them (not all by any means then). I knew what was happening, of course, as my mum and dad ran a junior football league and often had league players in our house teaching their youngsters a few things as we lived right by a football stadium - but I was still surprised by how much attention the game was getting with everyone who was not even that interested in football. I did not see any of the game because of my round until my parents hired a colour film of the highlights (TV was still black and white then) to show to the team and teach tactics to their young lads a while later. I was the only one who could work the projector so they asked me in. That day in 1966 was a Saturday, just like it is today, by the way. So ratings can be fairly compared! Not. |

January is a different world to July, but I think having a two day gap between an unsuccessful BB and CBB will hurt CBB.

At that time, i think C5 may have considered letting it rest, but they may have changed their minds after LI and the Euro's ended as the series picked up a fair bit. In fact the final 2 weeks were the best rated in 3 years. And I see they have opened applications again. They could do with a 3 year break with JUST the winter CBB going, and then when BB comes back, it will be fresher.. They did a 2 year gap for the Italian version and it worked wonders for them. |
