Same format, same location, same channel, same slot, but a complete change of on-screen personnel saw the ratings plummet to pretty ordinary levels.
And if Bake Off loses Mary but keeps Paul then I'm reminded of the ITV 80s smash Game For A Laugh which lost all-but-one of the on-screen team in one swoop. LWT paired the one-who-stayed, Jeremy Beadle, with a new team of co-presenters, only to see their programme plummet in the ratings. It was then axed.
If C4 hold onto Paul and Mary I can see the programme dropping in the ratings but still doing VERY good by C4 standards. I would have expected ratings to drop even if 4 had held onto the whole team, simple because it's moving from BBC1 to C4. That Virgin ad where only 7 year olds know how to work modern TVs seems to be quite accurate. Some people can't even find Channel 4
