There is an X Factor forum if you want to talk about the show - forums.digitalspy.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=96

The Ratings Thread is about ratings.

Thanks but I'll respond to the poster here as, handily, that's where they posted.

Why would I respond to it over on the TXF forum where, firstly, that isn't where the poster's post originated from and, secondly, the poster might not see my response if they don't frequent that section of the forum?

I appreciate your attempts at being the forum police, but I shall choose to mostly ignore them.

Have you been active on this thread at all this week? If you have, then you know that this thread has a lot of 'glue' that holds it together beyond the daily viewing figures...

On that note, no major Bake Off stories in the tabloids tomorrow by the looks of things.

There's a difference between posting about a significant TV industry decision, and simply posting subjective negativity about a show that was on TV tonight (by people who have blatantly never enjoyed it anyway).

I'm just trying to restore objectivity to ratings discussion, such posts hinder it slightly. That's all.

Obviously you missed when I said I've enjoyed this series, then.

And you, of all posters, aren't in any position to champion objectivity!

I use this thread for the information on Bake Off and other shows. Much easier to find it all on here.

Would you feel the same about this if all the comments were positive?

I watched it and enjoyed as well. I must of been wrong, that was not staged at all and that girl gate crashed auditions due to XF employing no security staff at all.

What if you're someone like me who has absolutely no interest in the Paralympics? I don't like X-Factor but I'd watch it over the Paralympics anyday.

from tomorrows Sunday Mirror

http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/b...ry-how-8859960

The show was run by the corporation’s factual department, which refused to pay the £25million a year initially demanded by the production company and said it could only offer an annual £15million.

Channel 4 has now bagged the hit series with a £75million deal over three years.

It has since been suggested inside the BBC that the programme could have been retained if the entertainment department had simply been asked to chip in with the extra £10million – thereby matching the rival’s three year bid.

A TV insider said: “BBC bosses are furious there was no joined-up thinking. All the departments run far too separately, with no cross-over.

Any BBC “golden handcuffs” offer to Berry and Hollywood would include bumper new pay packets and prevent them working elsewhere.

Such deals for presenters are very rare, with Ant and Dec’s ITV contract the only major one of its kind.

Insiders branded any such move over Bake Off “a dirty trick” and said the BBC would be guilty of trying to ruin the show for fans after losing the rights.

A source said: “This is turning into a bitter turf war between rival TV stations but at this rate it’ll be the viewers who miss out. Fans just want to see the series stay the same as much as is possible and that obviously means keeping Paul and Mary at the centre of it.

“It’s a shame some people at the BBC seem to be looking for a way to sabotage that and spoil it for the fans. Many of us feel it’s foul play and not the intended function of licence payers’ cash.”

Yes, I think Newzoids had its best episode tonight. I also liked the ITV daytime sketch too, as well as the Bake Off ones. I can't see its rating budging that much though unfortunately.

I'm not surprised at the Eat Well for Less rating last night. It doesn't feel right for a Friday night and it's not really 9pm material, I don't think.

I assumed sky can track every download on every box. That's over 10m homes (well some aren't connected so no that many).

I have no idea what the BBC were playing at with Eat Well For Less' scheduling - it really did have a feel of 'we have one more week to cover before Strictly's back... stick anything on'. I presume Have I Got News For You will return on 7th October, after Sir Terry Wogan Remembered on 30th September?

So the media are now bored of attacking Love Productions and are now returning to the old favourite "attack the BBC" rhetoric. Didn't take long.

The only people sabotaging Bake Off is the people who make Bake Off!

It looks like the insiders and sources here are from Love Productions trying to fight back in a PR war they appear to be losing at the moment.

But like Sir Philip Green, someone else currently on the wrong end of a PR battle, they can console themselves by counting their money.

The idea that the management overseeing these year long negotiations didn't have a Eureka! moment about another department chipping in is just risible. These "sources" are trying to paint a picture like it's the CIA vs the FBI who are notorious for being territorial. I daresay the BBC does have unecessary bunker mentality still in some areas but to put forward the idea that what scuppered it was two departments not talking to each other is just ludicrous.

Is the Mirror group known to be anti-BBC?

There's a lot of spin and BS. It's come from all sides. I'd call it a tawdry affair but it isn't really. It's a TV show switching channels.

It's not BHS. Few, if any lives, have been harmed. It's more like a football transfer.

I have that book (so they sold three copies at least) but when I've compared those top 20s with the information in (mostly) Broadcast, I've noticed some errors and omissions.

Pretty sure I've read on here that Holly Willoughby's been on one since she quit The Voice. And Schofield. And Graham Norton. And Nick Knowles. And a whole list of news and sport presenters - Gary Lineker, for example, reportedly agreed to have his BBC wages slashed so that he could be freed up to go and work for BT, and Jonathan Edwards - probably the most underrated sports presenter around at the moment - has decided to ruin his career by signing up to work exclusively for Eurosport as of next year. It's really not that rare, although yes probably not in many instances as fought for by a channel as it sounds like the BBC and C4 are fighting to 'handcuff' Mary and Paul.
