OTT comment of the day right there.
It will be back on the BBC as soon as the contract ends I'm sure, but let's not pretend it was a huge rater on there either because it absolutely wasn't, even with the most perfect lead-in going in the shape of MOTD. The gamble was always on the 9pm slot boosting viewership. When it became clear immediately from the first set of figures that it wasn't going to, it was effectively game over for Football League Tonight there and then. And now it's just a case of seeing out the remainder of the contract. |

A new feature length Victoria trailer is to air on ITV at 7.28pm tonight. And in the trailer it says 'Coming to Sunday Nights' which suggests its going to be Poldark V Victoria. Battle of the period dramas.
Cold Feet for Monday in the DM slot. The trailer for Victoria looks impressive. I wonder if ITV will launch Victoria the week TXF returns on the 27th/28th August or a week later on the same weekend of Poldark's return. Downton worked because it was soap opera in period costume. It had a wide range of characters each with their own storylines. If there was a character or story you didn't like, then don't worry, there will be another one along in a moment. Victoria, by its very nature, is going to primarily about the one character, and the first series only takes her up to about aged 20. Plus Jenna Coleman hardly did great things for Doctor Who's ratings. I agree that the trailer is visually impressive - not so sure about the content though. I would expect Poldark and Victoria to be two of the highest rated programmes in 7-day timeshift. And I agree with Cold Feet replacing Doc Martin on a Monday. Should be a safe bet to get close to DM's rating from last year. Depending on what BBC1 puts up against it, of course. Memories of Silent Witness slightly denting Broadchurch's ratings. |

Two things I note from Radio Times.
Next week they are showing the last two episodes of series 2 of Boy Meets Girl on Wednesday and Thursday at 10 pm. Ratings have not been reported since episode 1 of series 2 but that was under half series 1 so this decision (unless it was forced by the Olympics maybe?) suggests a burn off of what will be the last ever episodes. Personally I like the series, but not enough viewers do watch it seems so I will not be surprised if that is what happens given the figures, And The Chase is getting a two week rest at 5 pm Monday to Friday replaced by a new quiz Cash Trapped. Interestingly this is a format devised by Bradley Walsh (who also presents). He has played it with family and friends for years seemingly. The Deal or No Deal banker is also producing so it has a good pedigree. The format looks interesting - six contestants fight it out and try to sabotage one another as they amass cash. The one with the most then squares off against the other five. If the one with the most wins this duel they take the pot. If they lose they come back the next day but start again with nothing. 'No one leaves until someone wins' is its catchphrase. Be interesting to see how this goes. With those figures (and I'm surprised the press aren't ripping it to shreds like they did to Love Island at one point or Top Gear or Eldorado- given one of the cast was Matt Healy's mum.) it was either burn off the 2 episodes over 2 days or do a Brookside and bin it to 11.45 as a 1 hour special on Saturday night. |

I've read some strange things on this thread, and that observation is certainly one. |

What an absolutely ridiculous thing to say, companions have never been picked based on what they will do to the ratings, and their time on the show is never judged by ratings. A new companion alone will never raise the ratings.
I've read some strange things on this thread, and that observation is certainly one. I sorry if you felt I was saying something offensive about Jenna. For the record, I liked Clara as a companion and will miss her in the next series. But the facts remain that the Capaldi/Coleman era of Dr Who hasn't been the strongest ratings-wise. |

Not surprised that Victoria is going out on Sundays. It was clearly designed as the replacement for Downton Abbey. I will be very surprised, though, if Victoria gets anywhere near Downton's ratings and not remotely surprised if its overnights drop below 5m before the end of its run.
Downton worked because it was soap opera in period costume. It had a wide range of characters each with their own storylines. If there was a character or story you didn't like, then don't worry, there will be another one along in a moment. I think Victoria will no way be as big as DA, but I think next years The Halyclon will be a closer match. Cold Feet should even with drama opposition on BBC1 at least launch with well over 7m. Victoria V Poldark is going to be more interesting. If they are similar sized raters (in terms of final audience number) then Poldark with have the bigger overnight, as many viewers record Victoria and skip through the ads. But I think ITV need to launch Victoria the night BBC launch Poldark. |

Celebrity Big Brother: 1.35m (8.2%) inc +1
Not too terrible for a Saturday. Last years first Saturday got 910,000, so 50% up on that pretty much. |

1.6M for Tom Daley. That is awful.
Just looked at 1966. A nation remembers 1.18M?! It would not have done any better on any other night. Just terrible. Or maybe people are now more angry that England have not won anything since.

What an astonishingly bad Saturday for ITV. Pretty low for Iron Man 2 as well bearing in mind what happened to ITV.
CBB doing OK still year-on-year. Heard some advertising for the show on commercial radio yesterday which is new during a series and should help it along. |

I only pop in here to see the figures but I didn't see anything worth tuning in for on any channel last night. Ended up watch three episodes of Netflix's Stranger Things.

Seems odd putting two documentaries on a Saturday night.
Lackluster ratings all round last night save for Dad's Army. |

Isn't it time we got over 1966 and accepted we are a second tier nation? Typical British mentality, live in the past.
Have noticed Skyfall is on AGAIN next Saturday. Are ITV broke? |

On the subject of 1966: A Nation Remembers, an awful rating for a pretty nice documentary. You could understand ITV's reasoning for putting it on the actual 50th anniversary but it just didn't work. I'd imagine the scheduling would have went down a treat over on STV as I dare say the majority of our Scottish buddies have been trying hard to black it out ever since.....
