Don't know if you've seen this site - http://www.tvratingsuk.com/ - but I see it as better than tvbythenumbers and find it extremely useful, so thanks to whoever updates this. Ratings archives FTW!

In other news, Channel 4's enjoyable 'reality thriller' Hunted returns this Thursday.
Not entirely sure how the ratings will be. Last year it opened with 1.92m, I've seen it promoted quite well this time around (including plenty of radio advertising) so I'm wondering if it could be up on that - or at least even with it.
Seems to me they're pushing it to be a bigger hit than last year but tbh I never saw how the last one was promoted.

View to a Kill cams out in 1985. ET in 82. Premiere on TV in 1990/1. 17m watched.

One in three people used to watch soaps. Now in it one in ten. I guess if you show six episodes a week you can still get 36m viewers a week like Corrie used to get for the Monday and Wednesday episodes.

Thanks again Ray.

Thanks for the tip. I know they are a few days behind on the overnights but it's still a great round up.

National Treasure debuted with 3m for C4 last night - a 15% share and second only to BBC1's DIY SOS in its slot

Fantastic for National Treasure. One of the best dramas I've seen this year. The Tuesday flop zone for ITV plunders on it seems.

Thanks Ray for that 1990 list! EastEnders really went through a terrible period at that time if 14.9m was its highest single showing.

That just shows that drama on a Tuesday night could work for ITV. But ch 4 have also been helped by the fact the BBC dont have a drama on BBC 1 for the whole of National Treasure' run.

National Treasure was superb. Ch4 drama rates well on Tuesday, BBC drama rates well on Tuesday, but ITV persist with flimsy factual.

Possibly National Treasure is why BBC1 doesn't have a drama on Tuesday night at present

Thanks Ray.

EastEnders looking a bit feeble there.

Casualty has given Holby City a much needed boost to keep it over 4m for longer.

BBC2 had a good night, as did Ch4. Ch5 didn't do too badly either.

ITV on the other hand I bet was under 2m all night. Sort Tuesday's out Lygo, otherwise ITV might as well go off air on this day.

Dire. Why do ITV persist with this? I'd really like to ask one of the bosses, why Tuesday is just left to wither away?

Emmerdale: 4.87m excluding HD / excluding +1

Looks like Emmerdale was ahead of EastEnders last night inc HD and +1, possibly even without +1.

Great rating for National Treasure there. Richly deserved for such a well made program. It's a tough subject but I like how it tried to be fair and let you come to your own conclusions - there were little hints that there may be some skeletons in the closet but nothing too on the nose and I expect over the run we might find out more details and get a verdict at the end but it seems like, whatever the end result for the character, it could be argued it's the wrong verdict.

Is it me or is EastEnders between the living and the dead at the moment? Nothing is happening at all. It's like sitting watching paint dry. The fact it has over 5 million is amazing! It needs some oomph!

Blimey- didn't think National Treasure would do that well. Good cast though.

ITV handing C4 the ratings on a plate I guess with their utterly pathetic lineup.

I think it's time ITV started spending and not persisting with this cheap crap. Use or lose it is my motto.

As for the BBC, 'DIY SOS' needs scrapping. Just sappy tosh, that plays on people's emotions.

EastEnders was slowly recovering from the mistakes of 1989.
EP Michael Ferguson got rid of the lightweight 'comedy' characters, brought issues back to the fore, and introduced the Mitchell brothers. He was probably one of the most astute EPs that EastEnders has ever had, and deserves a lot of credit for saving the show.

I think the reason ITV stick factual on a Tuesday is purely due to a lack of hits. They need to get a hit returnables on other nights before sorting the Tuesday flop zone out. They can relax a bit on Sundays now because Victoria is a hit and will return, which sorts out the issue of having a successor to Downton. If it sells well abroad, which it should do, they'll have more money to spend testing stuff on Tuesdays.

I'd personally look at a more light drama on a Tuesday - perhaps Brief Encounters could be moved there? They need a strong returnable on Mondays as well, because Broadchurch will end soon and I can't see Cold Feet coming back.

ITV have a perfect opportunity then to move Corrie to 19:30 on weekdays and create the 60mins soap block. EE would move to 20:00 and both channels would have some clear scheduling.

Since itv doesn't have much live sport/football, it would rarely have to move the soaps. They could then maybe work on creating some decent tv for the 20:00 hour. It seems EE is vulnerable.

Just imagine ITV having something worth watching after 8pm.
