We still have to wait for confirmation just incase he changes his mind.
GBBO is going to struggle with just him following the show over to C4 if he does take the money. It shouldn't be too long before confirmation comes out considering Mary's decision. Jay Hunt must be a bit worried now. |

If Paul doesn't go, then Channel 4 have really shot themselves in the foot big time. 75 million quid for a tent with ovens.

In case anyone doubted my sources... Mary Berry has quit and Paul was seen going to the Channel 4 offices in person today! Just a shame it's ended the way it has, but I expect the BBC's happy with the result.

Not entirely sure what they've bought, except the rights to call a baking show The Great British Bake Off. It will certainly bear little resemblance to the current show - very sad to think next year won't have the show I've loved for 7 series.

I wonder if the BBC actually has some kind of completion baking show in mind now. Bake Off is pretty much a narrow banded Masterchef as far as I can see so the basic format is hardly confined to one programme.

You see, that is exactly the reason we never see anymore. An honest, loyal person. An old British attitude. I admire her.

Mary continued: "My decision to stay with the BBC is out of loyalty to them, as they have nurtured me, and the show, that was a unique and brilliant format from day one. I am just sad for the audience who may not be ready for change, I hope they understand my decision.
http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/m...-after-8889969Good for you Mary, and well said. So she's not going out of loyalty, Mel & Sue are not going for the money. If Hollywood goes, it will look like he's disloyal and going for the money. What a position to be in! |

The unravelling of the Bake-Off is fascinating.
The biggest show on TV right now being torn to shreds at its peak. Has this ever happened so publicly before? I wouldn't be surprised if Paul went to C4 alone, but then a part of me thinks he may also stay loyal to Mel, Sue and Mary. It doesn't look good if he is the only one that lets the money talk. |

Broadcast says Happy Valley will not be returning for at least two years, but Sally Wainwright already has a new series commission which will air next year on BBC1.

I've heard the BBC are already coming up with a format for Mel, Sue and Mary (the original plan involved Paul too, but it's looking unlikely now) which would be in a similar vein to Bake Off (e.g. no big prize, no fake drama, same timeslot) but have a few changes.
And I agree with the poster above who said that since the public has been made aware of the huge financial battles raging in the background, the show has lost a bit of its appeal. It doesn't feel quite as quaint, cosy and comforting. The spell it cast on the audience has been somewhat lifted. |

Love productions have killed this well loved show stone dead, killed a programe that they could have got £15 million for, C4 have made a seriously misjudgement. IMHO Paul is just playing hard ball negotiations to get the best deal, in his heart he has no plans to go to 4, just wants to get the most out if the situation. Whatever the ratings on 4 it will be like Top Gear, and the tabloids will have a field day ripping apart the 4 show, it's toxic. |

When you watch Mel and Sue on Bake Off, even though I don't regard them as the best comedians in the world, they are so natural and warm hearted on the show that it makes it instantly accessible. Mary also is never rude or direct about a person's efforts and just offers criticism in a dignified, but polite manner. That is what Bake Off is. It's quintessentially British. The slight eccentricities of Mel and Sue and the British etiquette of Mary is what makes Bake Off. It flows nicely, there is a constant continuity with it that makes it watchable and enjoyable.
Bake Off on C4 without Mel, Sue and Mary, the three vital ingredients, won't be Bake Off. It'll just be another cooking competition. It'll be like a Rolls Royce with a mini-metro engine. It's a show about real people being nice to each other. That's why it stands out in our manufactured, morally bankrupt televisual landscape. ... I really hope Mary's decision brings Paul to his senses. He has far more to gain from reuniting the foursome at the Beeb than he does being last man standing at C4. |

If they do that, there will almost certainly be a massive lawsuit between the BBC, Love Prod. and Channel 4. And it'll be interesting to see exactly how it turns out. What does Love Prod actually own apart from the name? The pressure on Paul Hollywood to state its intentions soon must be huge (and I still don't know whether he's been offered Top Gear).
And I agree with the poster above who said that since the public has been made aware of the huge financial battles raging in the background, the show has lost a bit of its appeal.
