As long as it isn't Bake Off, as long as it doesn't emulate Bake Off, then the BBC can make and show what they like, when they like. They always show a baking competition in August, so if that's what they choose to show next August, what's to stop them?

Love Productions don't own the baking competition monopoly.
As Simon Cowell showed when ITV tried a Bake Off type programme a short while back.

If Jay Hunt is reading the papers' websites this morning it must be like reading her own obit:

1 Sky Sports 1 - 07:30 PM Live: EFL Cup 786 3.7%
Good rating for a reasonably entertaining game. Brave from the Cobblers to keep the score at 1-1 for a while there, and two of United's three goals came from avoidable errors by the keeper.

Oh how I laughed seeing the likes of Rooney starting and Ibrahimovic coming on early in the 2nd half. Mourinho must be really bricking it to field a side as strong as that against a mid-table League 1 team.

In case anyone doubted my sources... Mary Berry has quit and Paul was seen going to the Channel 4 offices in person today! Just a shame it's ended the way it has, but I expect the BBC's happy with the result.
You're no worse than Dan Wootton who just second guesses and then claims he knew from sources. You are no more in the know than Jay Hunt is.

Maybe she will be reading The Guardian, I'm told it has plenty of media/broadcast job adverts.

Talking of the EFL cup, the draw couldn't have worked out much better could it?

Highlights...
United / City
L'pool / Spurs
W Ham / Chels

Three ties to make the mouth water there and lots of ratings potential.

Charlotte Moore's job not one of those being advertised there!

I'm sure the Beeb could win this potential lawsuit.

Still, for each aspect of their new show that resembles GBBO, they could be sued. Three rounds a week? Contestants being nice to each other? Panoramic views of green gardens? A tent? Union Jack bunting? Background music in the same key? Little documentaries about the history of baking? Using words like 'soggy' and 'informal'?

Everyone would know looking at the new show that the BBC had to make a different programme, but wanted it to be not too different. So, each and every aspect of that new programme could lead to a lawsuit for copyright infringement. As I say, fascinating.

She is " dead in the water" now, this is the end of her career. When the tabloids smell blood they will go on and on, the focus will now close in on her, she has damaged 4 - and she has known that with hasty articles in the Radio Times and newspapers " trying" to defend herself.

That article is so stupid.
Yeah, I'm sure Britain's Got Talent is "quaking with envy" over a show that gets 13m when it itself gets 12.5. The quaking must be unbelievable!

Comment in The Guardian nails it:

Channel 4 has damaged itself as a publicly owned broadcaster, the production company look foolish and short termist, Mel ,Sue and Mary can pretty much do what they like at the BBC. BBC have come out of it looking prudent and have played a weak hand very well-and they usually play a strong hand weakly!

Hosting duties eh?

Hollywood will provide some continuity, but is it going to be enough?

I wonder how much he got out of C4 in the end, particularly if Mary made her intentions clear early.

To be fair, other than Paul and Love Productions, nobody is more in the know than anyone else. Having said that, I do know some things I can't reveal due to them being very specifically associated with my position, so they could easily be traced back to me. Dan Wootton doesn't even have sources, nobody will talk to him!

Beeb just read out Hollywood's statement and he thanked the BBC and M&S but unless they clipped it, not Mary. Can't find a link to the full statement to check though....

Who would want to talk to Dan Wootton in the first place?!

I've been unsure of your info the past few weeks but you've been spot on! Thank you for your information.

Of course Paul is his own man, and he can make his own decisions regarding his career, but it doesn't look too good for him going to C4, especially following Mary's lovely statement about loyalty.

I also think that of the 3 components (Mary, Paul and 'Mel & Sue'), Paul is probably the least vital component. He is the harshness to the warmth that the others provide. It is that warmth that makes it so unique, and what I believe to be irreplaceable.

He can't be a host AND a judge - especially around the concept of the technical challenge, which requires the task setters to disappear, whilst the bakers look at the 'instructions' that says 'make the cake' or similar, with little else! It's going to be an unmitigated disaster - and heads need to roll for managing to kill off the top show on British TV in under 2 weeks, from start to finish!

Last night's ratings are a like a tolling bell to C4 right now - 10.23million! - the mess they've made. Any chance Jay Hunt will be fired before the end of the week?
