Ep3 of #TheSecretAgent again lost out to ITV and 007, with 2.4m/12.2% against ITV's avge of 3.3m/17.5% for #Skyfall http://www.overnights.tv
Good for Skyfall, unfortunate rating for The Secret Agent.

Knees might be jerking in here but has CBB put a foot wrong yet? The Sunday episodes last year rated as follows INCLUDING +1:

1.17m / 5.8%
1.31m / 5.8%
1.55m / 6.2%
1.25m / 7.2%

So last night's beat at least three of those comfortably. There was some concern about CBB back then but when it returned in January it was back to doing over 2m a night aside from Saturdays, so no harm done having this lower rated summer series if viewers come back which it's been proven that they do.

I think we'll learn more about how this particular series is going to go over the next few days, but at this point it's performing better than UK v USA and that is the main measure Channel 5 will be looking at to establish performance. And with the cast this year it could be that it's up more markedly amongst the more sought after 16-34s, we just don't know.

I agree with this. All 4 episodes so far this year have been up on last year too.

2.36m vs 2.22m
1.58m vs 1.55m
1.35m vs 910k
1.5m vs 1.17m

I reckon tonight could mark a small increase too. We will see how it fares now, as to my knowledge last year increased from the Monday onwards.

Plus I think another thing to take into account, they have saved a lot of money compared to January. At most, they spent £1.5m on the people this year, last year £1.5m was spent on around 4 people, pretty sure they spent well over double in January than they have this year.

Rugby League is very rarely shown in primetime on the BBC, but I can't see how it did so badly anyway. It's hardly as if it was miles behind every other channel anyway. It's a minority sport but it doesn't hurt anyone, if they can put golf in primetime they can put rugby league there once in a blue moon. They won't be showing it then again this year. It wasn't helped by, as mentioned, a massive injury in the match which meant there was a lengthy stoppage, hardly very TV-friendly.

Besides, on Friday I saw many tweets from rugby league fans who were absolutely thrilled that the BBC were putting rugby league in primetime and giving it valuable exposure. We hear so much everywhere about how the Beeb shouldn't be chasing ratings and encouraging minority sports instead of throwing money at millionaire footballers and then we get inquests when a minority sport doesn't get millions of viewers.
I think it was fair to ask the question. If that amounts to an inquest, then so be it.

BBC Two going an entire weeknight without recording an audience of over 1m not generating any sort of comment at all would be very odd. It was surely one of their worst performing Friday nights ever, and so was quite rightly acknowledged in here.

Also, I'm not sure screening the odd Rugby League game here and there is really getting behind a minority sport and perhaps therein lies the problem, and if they were to offer more consistent coverage on TV as I believe they do on local radio then audiences could grow.

It's better than nothing though, obviously.

Can someone tell me whether Dragon's Den was slightly up or down from it's opening figure? To me knowledge it looks incredible stable as i'm sure it got 2.7m last week.

Absolutely, and rightly so. The January series gets a whopping 800,000 extra viewers a night roughly speaking. Any agent worth their salt will be getting their client on the January version for significantly more expsoure and better pay, and hence most of the bigger names (relatively speaking) will continue to sweve the August one.

That awkward moment when the most exciting thing about the Top 10 is which BBC News bulletin performed best.

Skyfall did quite well I guess, as did the F1. But overall, very underwhelming figures across the board.

With bad weather forecast for the next few days, perhaps things might pick up a little.

The Beeb show plenty of rugby league, they show live matches from each round of the Challenge Cup. Usually they show them in the afternoon (as they did on Saturday) but this time they showed one of them on Friday night instead. Maybe that was more to do with there being no time on Sunday with the cycling and the golf to show it there instead, so that was the only available slot, rather than any grand plan.

As I said, it didn't help that there was a massive stoppage during the match which also meant it overran and the 10pm programme had to be dropped, which may well have rated higher. But it was hardly a total disaster for BBC2, it didn't rate brilliantly but there'll be many programmes that do worse than that on primetime BBC2 this year. Not sure we can extrapolate much from one rating.

It's not necessarily libellous to suggest it because we have simply come to an obvious conclusion based on what has happened. If proof or reporting emerges showing that Kelly Cates was not sacked, I will happily retract my statement.
I think if you're going to announce on a public forum that a presenter has been sacked, the onus is probably on you to find the proof, rather than to wait for proof that she hasn't just left of her own accord.

I can't remember who said it but somebody called it absolutely correctly regarding Cash Trapped, ITV's summer replacement for The Chase.

The general consensus on social media was that the format is too confusing:

David Wriglesworth ‏@Wriggy
Still have no idea how #CashTrapped works. It's basically "Numberwang".

Stephen Bartholomew ‏@k9coachbristol
#cashtrapped This show is awful far too complex and drawn out and all over the place, didn't hold me at all. Why did BW say yes to this?

hells ‏@Hellsbeg1
What's this bollocks? #CashTrapped rolls over till tomorrow. Interviews with the contestants. I won't be watching tomorrow

Stevie... ‏@SeaDragonSteve
Well that was emotional. The emotion in question being crippling depression. #CashTrapped

•TOM• ‏@PickeringTj
Why are they coming back? Really don't get this game! Won't be watching again! #cashtrapped

Sooz ☀ ‏@seeneybird
Oh Brad. Much as I love you, I won't be watching again. My head is spinning! 🌀🌀 #cashtrapped

Callum Green ‏@Cal_Green_
What the hell is this rubbish? It makes no sense at all. I'm so confused! Bring back #TheChase! #cashtrapped

Steven Woodhall ‏@z7ev3n
Tuned into #CashTrapped half way through and I have no idea what's going on.

Danny Mc ‏@dannymccrorie
5pm television is now officially ruined #cashtrapped what a load of utter 💩💩💩💩 never known an hour drag so long @ITV

Rl ‏@rlag82
#cashtrapped is like something Joey would present in friends.

Alfred Dewsbury ‏@alfdewsbury
#CashTrapped. Does anybody have the faintest idea what is going on? Get The Chase back on, love the humour in that.

Louis ‏@King_Louis_XIX
So this #cashtrapped is based on Bradley Walsh's own idea eh? 😕 Some ideas should stay in your head tbh.

Chris Southon ‏@cpsouthon
Mass switching over from the dire #cashtrapped to #pointless

Andy Goulding ‏@AndyGoulding
Watching #CashTrapped on ITV. The rules of the game show seem more difficult than the actual questions.
Certainly sounds up against it ratings wise to say the least. The hashtag didn't seem to throw up any positive tweets at all, although I may have missed them.

The Numberwang comment sums Cash Trapped up perfectly IMHO.

Too slow, too complicated. And like Tipping Point, the producers seem to be encouraging the contestants to make little comments as the game is played. It's presumably designed to bring out the contestant's personalities but it just comes across as forced. Tipping Point gets away with it because those falling counters are strangely hypnotic. (TP is a lot more enjoyable than it ought to be.) For CT, though, the asides just make the game even more annoying.

This is presumably the (revised) ITV schedule for next Sunday:

17:15 - ITV Regional News
17:30 - ITV News
17:45 - Arsenal vs Manchester City
20:00 - Midsomer Murders (R)

Don't think I've ever seen a domestic friendly shown on ITV before.
