How does that compare with the length and time slot of the same show last year?

Or choose Strictly and not bother with TXF at all as they've missed it.

But ITV have a habit of elongating the chat after the football which viewers just turn off automatically to BBC1.”

That's for two reasons, to get more ad breaks into the football as advertisers like that rare audience, and to improve the image of ITV football, however much a thankless task that is. If they were known for rushing off immediately they would be slated.

I know you are obsessed with TXF lead in, but at the end of the day it's up against SCD and whether it's the news, or YBF or The Chase you are talking about a rating going from 1.5m to 2.2m which isn't much in the great scheme of things.

It should be at least at a level with SCD but got left behind.

Poldark has been gripping and people have been watching on IPlayer getting into it and now watching it live, Victoria of course gets a hand up with +1 but has done well for ITV, without +1 Poldark wins, the story is gripping, the views stunning, and the story moves on st a pace.”

And if Victoria was on BBC1 you could basically copy and paste what you've just said there, as you would do if the shows were on vice versa channels.

Poldark wins the head to head becsuse viewers know there is a +1 option available. If there wasn't Victoria would in all likely-hood be ahead. Look at the consolidated ratings.

Unlikely as they wouldn't be able to fit everything in. Match of The Day can't start later than 10.30pm. They're getting away with it that night as there's no Match of The Day. They could dump the lottery quiz and run Strictly later but given there's another series of Michael McIntyre's Big Show coming up I can't see them running Strictly later

The other danger for the BBC is they are using SCD as muscle and once you do that you can't complain if something comes along and bites you. ITV have a few new formats lined up and if any of them do well there's always a possibility it gets moved to the autumn.

People will record the XF if it clashes with SCD because of adverts. But if ITV had a second popularish show at 6:30pm - well people might just choose to watch ITV and tape the one programme on BBC.

I actually don't understand why they want Takeaway on in February so close to BGT and then go six months with no Ant and Dec. Stick Takeaway in September and October in the Noel's House Party 6:30 slot with XF at around 7:45 leaving a few weeks before IAC.

Risky I know. Ballsy.

It's time for a new season of the DS Ratings Prediction Game!

With week one upon us it's time predict how returning drama The Fall will figure, whether The Level will be at a good level and how Morgana Robinson's The Agency will pull in the viewers. Will Strictly be up year-on-year for it's results and how will The X Factor do for the first Judge's House show of the series? Could Ambulance put the BBC One 9pm slot in need of life support or race away from the opposition? Is Damned damned from the off?

Why not have a go at predicting accordingly? Everyone's welcome, whetehr you're a new player, lapsed or a regular! Just click
HERE, left click 'Quote', delete the quote marks and get predicting!

Thank you to everyone who takes part in advance.

On a different note, ITV on the whole seems to be picking up a little. Tuesdays are still proving to be a major issue, as well as pre/post X Factor on Saturdays.”

I am quite impressed with ITV lately. They are making a real splash with drama, and I'm glad they showed faith in shows like Newzoids even if it's rating poorly. Even though I was expecting Cold Feet to rate better I think they will renew it as they need more relationship type dramas. I actually think Go For It with Stephen Mulhern is a good little show too as a warm up to the main event of the X Factor.

Like you say Tuesday is still proving to be a big issue.

Maybe ITV should get the England game put back half an hour. Expect a slightly late kick off and plenty of stoppage time!
Simplest solution is to swap YBF with The Chase.

Strictly will have one fewer dance but still be on for the same running time. The BBC is bringing the wood.”

Week 3 is a Theme Week and has an opening group number that takes up the length of a dance with the packages before and after it.

I still don't get why they're moving it later. Is England v Malta really that dangerous an opposition compared to The X Factor?

Ah right, thanks. In subsequent weeks I think they shave five minutes but I might have that wrong too.

After Saturday's rating of 7.1m, I was expecting Sunday to be around 6.5m.

Victoria and Poldark continue to do well.

Is that confirmed yet? Could it change? That's a very late finish for Strictly.

Decent for Friday's first look Home and Away which featured the start of the plane crash storyline. Surprised they're doing another big stunt so shortly after the caravan park explosion. It was a good episode though.

Cold Feet held steady. Hopefully it can rise tonight. I think its done enough for a recommission....just.”

No single reason for Poldark, I don't think - though the BBC One Sunday line up does tend to grow into autumn, so it should benefit from a stronger AR & Countryfile for the second half of its run, all boosted by Strictly's return. Victoria finishes in a few weeks too, which may help further. I imagine the BBC will be quite pleased - I don't think it's been doing badly in the circumstances, but they may have hoped for more so a nice strong finish will do the show good.

I think Cold Feet will get another series. The figures might not be a smash hit, but they're still better than most and its been well received. So I don't see any reason why not.

Tutankhamun will take the place of Victoria. I can't see the former doing much over 4.5m, so I suspect Poldark will get an automatic boost. That and SCD return to Sunday.

It doesn't matter that they're playing Malta - it's England. People watch England play anyone. That's why Wembley sells out even when they're playing San Marino.

Not a particularly auspicious start. Deserved better and it had enough trails to warrant more viewers.
