6.16m for EastEnders must be one of the highest overnight figures it's had for some time (though obviously it will be brought back down to size tonight with the clash).

Must have really struggled for viewers.

Considering Spike would have been happy with about 60,000 in that slot, it must have done very very badly indeed.

ITV inc +1:

Cash Trapped: 2.72m (23.5%)
Brief Encounters: 4.20m (21.0%)

Pointless: 2.37m (19.8%)

Good stuff for Cash Trapped, an excellent start. I think it might drop a fair way from here though.

That's brilliant for Cash Trapped! People still getting a Bradley Walsh fix at 5pm on weekdays.

Thanks Ray.

Good for CBB, not too horrific for The Musketeers, Eden looks like it has found its level now.

That's a very good rating for Cash Trapped, sure it will most likely drop, but great share.

All good material for Jake Kanter's grilling of Jay Hunt on August 24 I reckon.

Excellent start certainly and a million more than I expected personally. I would urge caution though at this stage purely due to the reaction which was overwhelmingly negative. Let's see what happens with it over the next few days.

But at least Andy23's theory of people not giving it a chance because it wasn't The Chase has been blown completely out of the water. I expect Bradley's presence helped in that regard. If it doesn't become a hit from here, it's simply because viewers didn't like the format.

Yes but they did the exact same thing to the same show last year as well, you would think they would have just put it after midnight to start with.

Cash Trapped is no doubt high because most viewers were likely tuning in expecting The Chase. I'd be very surprised if it stays over 2m for the rest of the run, it had a drawn out format and some truly hateful contestants.

Looking in the TV mag for next week, I noticed Emmerdale have ANOTHER hour long clashing with EastEnders next Tuesday...how many more are there to come? Both soaps end up suffering, especially Emmerdale who are currently churning out the equivalent of seven episodes a week. I fear the overkill might turn a few viewers away.

Suprisingly high rating for Chash Trapped. It does suggests viewers are willing to try out ITV's new 5pm formats, especially if BradleyWalsh is hosting.

Pointless is clearly starting to decline having been in that slot non-stop for months even years, without a replacement.

Or perhaps people were tuning in for The Chase and discovered Cash Trapped was there instead ? The ratings for today's show will indicate whether ITV have another format to run on rotation with The Chase. I do wonder though whether too much Bradley could bring eventual viewer fatigue with him.

He is a very good host and I would love to see him present a gameshow in primetime on ITV, maybe taking over Family Fortunes with non celeb families.

The BBC really are a joke when it comes to Pointless. I saw a post about the number of new episodes they have waiting to go out and yet they drip feed viewers with repeats for most of the year. I hope viewers do tire of it and the ratings drop off as it would serve them right for running it into the ground.

ITV's strategy of trying out new formats is definitely the right one. Cash Trapped felt really dragged out and didn't need an hour long slot really but it was watchable. I am slightly confused by how anyone wins or goes home though.

So is this a case of ITV's version of Numberwang ?

The other point to make about Cash Trapped is the recycling of contestants.

I know one of them was on C4's The Question Jury only last week, and I'm reliably informed another was on BBC One's The Getaway Car recently.

Not sure we even get normal people on gameshows these days, more a case of who wants to be on TV the most.

I guess we will see a week on Monday how the new Jeff Stelling format compares in this 5 pm ITV slot during its own trial run. Cash Trapped is only a two week experiment before that one gets a short try out,

The Bradley factor will help attract viewers but his show was slow and confusing and a million miles from the simplicity of The Chase and Tipping Point that make them work. Not having a clue who won or did not win and so on is hardly a good omen for any quiz show.

If as stated he came up with this idea himself and has played it for years at family parties then those must have been popular not to be missed events.

Jeff Stelling was a popular Countdown host and reputedly regretted quitting. He probably appeals to a similar demographic as does Bradley. Which will help.

His show - Alphabetical - with quick fire questions based around letters of the alphabet - contestants getting knocked out and a finale shoot out between the days winner and the previous days winner with 26 questions in an A through to Z rapid chase for cash against the clock sounds 10 times more promising than the long winded ramble that is Cash Trapped.

Surely one of those weekday BBC 1 Drama's will take the post Bake off slot that Dr Foster dominated last year and Our Zoo didn't the year before.

To be fair there is a limit to the amount of people who are willing to go on a TV quiz show! When they're ploughing out thousands of episodes of all these shows each year it's inevitable you're going to get people who've been on other programmes.
