We did predict this last week regarding Paranoid. Was never going to hold up against The Fall with those reviews.

paranoid was ok but im not sure i will stick with it, watched the first episode of The Level which premiered on itv hub which was really good very slick, lots of twists, shame its being shown on a friday and two crime dramas on consecutive nights is poor scheduling unfortunatley i dont think it will do well tonight it deserves better.

If he's the executive producer yet doesn't have much input at all, what would ITV be paying him for?
The power at Coronation Street lies primarily with the writers - they have a degree of clout there that's not remotely comparable to other soaps. Roberts allies himself with them (as does John Whiston, Creative Director, Serial Drama) and that power base significantly outweighs any influence the producer may have - however heavily the press may focus on whoever is in the producer's chair. I have heard multiple stories of producers being frustrated by their inability to effect any change on the show - because they're constrained by those above them at ITV, and the writers.
So I would say Roberts has rather more influence than you give him credit for. I also have to wonder what else he is doing at ITV in Manchester - all the other projects he's got green lit have tanked, haven't they? It rather seems as if his history on Coronation Street gives him instant protection.
And they say the BBC is full of people who get paid loads for not doing much …

And then suddenly, ITV's Autumn doesn't look quite so rosy. If The Level flops tonight, then that will be two write-off dramas. Though I think The Level look better than Paranoid did. But its another crime drama the day after the previous one flopped.
No matter how well ITV do in the Autumn with stronger looking programmes than BBC1, the latter channel is supported by News programmes and the usual CF, AR etc., even if they get poor ratings in 9pm slots.
This is where ITV fail. ITV news cannot support ITV's schedule, and they have very few (only Corrie and Emmerdale) that give them solid ratings if the rest of the nigh flops.
Take Tuesday. BBC1 has EE and Holby City to support the night if the 9pm drama underperforms. Even the news at 10 can be over 4m even if the programe at 9pm is below 3m. Therefore BBC1 doesn't look quite as weak.
ITV on the other hand flops from 7.30pm all the way through until the next morning.
They need to be looking for a dependable hit like the BBC have with Casualty and HC.

Interesting that Hill's first new commission is with the writers from The Missing and One Of Us … I'd fully expect more writers/companies with whom she's been associated at the BBC to benefit from her move to ITV (all eyes on Drama Republic).

Paranoid has a number of in-built flaws and I'm not in the slightest surprised that its ratings have dropped off like that. I've not watched The Level, but I'm astonished that they have scheduled it the day after Paranoid - they must realise that they look extraordinarily similar on the surface, mustn't they? And with both following DCI Banks, it just looks even worse.
I remain amazed that ITV has not taken on Holby City. It's so weak and such an easy target. And the pending outsourcing of the show will only create instability. When GBBO was scheduled against HC, it suffered - so it's far from robust. Even playing a second Emmerdale against the start of it would help (instead of targeting EastEnders). Double that with Paul O'Grady's dog show and HC would take a big blow.

Yes. I imagine that is why she was brought to ITV. To diversify their drama output.
Despite crime drama being the best rater for ITV, they need to find more family drama/comedy like they have with The Durrells, Cold Feet and the ending next year Doc Martin.

That looks impressive. I do hope British TV remembers that you can still create new self-contained episodic drama rather than one big story that threads through the whole series.
Most of the new stuff from ITV seems to be continuing stories like Broadchurch did.
The Halcyon increasingly looks like one of the most important new dramas for ITV. The BBC has mastered creating dramas which have a lighter feel. Even murder dramas can be light (Death in Paradise, Castle, Sherlock, Luther).

An official press release. This came up earlier year but no casting was announced. ITV commissioned it before Polly Hill joined I think.

Polly Hill worked with the indies at the BBC. Look at many successful indie dramas on BBC and Polly Hill's name is usually attached to them.

Yes its so vulnerable. But then it feels like ITV have no desire to build Tuesday's back up. I bet factual is commissioned for that Tuesday slot just to fill it out. Most of the factual in this slot has been pretty uninteresting. The standouts have been:
Virgin Atlantic
Sugar Free Farm
Love Your Garden
Secrets from the Clink
Secrets from the Asylum
The rest like: Hot Tub Britain, Gems TV, Car Wars and Parking Wars will not pull in the casual viewers.

Yikes! Hardly worth bothering with at that level, they could stick on a Criminal Minds repeat and get more viewers.

Given the BBC's purple patch at the start of the year (War And Peace, Happy Valley, The Night Manager) plus her involvement in commissioning Poldark, I'm sure that is why Hill was recruited by ITV - they want that success and profile. As opposed to three superficially identikit crime dramas playing on consecutive nights, courtesy of Steve November and some terrible scheduling.
I'd also wager that Hill will be courting Sally Wainwright to pen her next series for ITV, rather than the BBC …

Absolutely.
The success of Doctor Foster last year prompted ITV to revive several dramas in that vein that they'd developed then abandoned. I'm sure at least one of them will make it to screen under Hill's tutelage …

I didn't quite notice it before, but scheduling DCI Banks, Paranoid and The Level all on concecutive nights its frankly stupid. If one flops the other its likely to, simply because it look so similar. ATM DCI Banks is set for the axe, and tbh, its a pretty bland crime drama. Paranoid will likely be at low 2m for the rest of the series.
At least the upcoming dramas: Dark Angel, HIM and Tutankhamun look more diverse and interesting.
