Hmm, it's not had much in the way of competition, I suppose - C4 has been showing repeats opposite it and none of the other channels seem to be showing much of interest to the younger audience. Might be a bit different next week when You're Fired goes up against it.

By the way, I am not sure at all about that Dad's Army rating, Broadcast said that was Mastermind, which was what BBC2 Wales were showing, so I wonder if the schedules have gone a bit wonky. Seems quite low for Dad's Army, I know it was opposite Strictly but it normally does a bit better than that.

I dunno, though, I think 6.30 is the perfect slot for it, it seems just right. I know the first year they stuck it at 6.30 nine times out of ten (2011?) Brucie said that he liked that they had a regular slot and that they had a good slot, and I would agree with that. I think it's good for the very youngest viewers as well. It's clearly not impeding its ability to get a big audience either.

I think that was its initial slot wasn't it? It didn't blaze a trail there iirc.”
No, last year it was on at nine o'clock on Wednesdays. Headcases, which was a virtually identical series with the same writers and voices but with animation instead, was in the Sunday 10pm slot around 2009.
It might be a bit better on Sundays at ten because you need to very brash to succeed on Saturday night ITV. It's in a bit of a bind too because it's clearly meant to appeal to an audience who doesn't generally watch ITV, but it's after the most ITV show imaginable, so that audience isn't around really. Also, it does not help that it has been at a completely different time to that in the TV guides for two weeks running now. But the big problem is probably that it's not very good.

You're still on for the Xmas advertising and you don't have to 'rest' the show.
Won't happen of course. XF could have launched Dance Dance Dance. The Voice start in late March.
Simon doesn't have to do American Idol anymore.”
Hmm, as you say, with that idea you would still get the Christmas advertising, which is the main reason why this show has to be in Quarter 4, but I do think it's much more valuable for ITV to have it on now rather than in January. The music industry more or less completely shuts down in January so there wouldn't be any big albums to promote in terms of the advertising or the guest appearances, and that would seem to outweigh any kind of benefit to the ratings. I think it's Q4 or not at all, sadly.

Well, indeed, and of course the only reason there is a spoiler about is because someone in the audience gives it away. It's exactly the same as any other show in that regard - if you really wanted to you could find out spoilers for all kinds of shows and films very easily. I mean, you could say the same thing about Bake Off, that's already been filmed and a friend of a friend of a friend could probably quite easily tell you who's won it.
But really, it's the same as fast forwarding through all the "filler" - if you desperately want to know who goes out the second they've filmed it, how much do you like Strictly anyway? Where's the fun in that? If you just want to see the dances and then know who's lost, it seems like a bit of a chore to be got over with as quickly as possible.
I mean, I probably know what my parents have got me for Christmas so by that regard, they may as well just give them to me when they've bought them rather than going through the rigmarole of wrapping them up and waiting until Christmas Day. If you see what I mean.
