Decent enough for Strictly. Last year that episode averaged 7.8m which clashed with a 2-hour XF for 6 chairs. Speaking of XF. That is poor but expected. Marginally down on last years second judges houses episode too. I do fear for it on Saturday when it clashes with Strictly for 50-minutes. Last years first live show averaged 5.6m. Could it be lower than that this time around?!

Superb time-shifts for both. Very impressive for Strictly. Last years consolidated rating for the Saturday week 1 show was 9.31m so its up a decent amount as expected after a larger overnight number of 8.6m

Hmmm. Emmerdale might have been more as it needed tape-checking. Therefore your SD rating Ray for Emmerdale would have been tape-checked whereas that is the full-slot rating. So might be a little bit more.

That show is definitely deceased, and when I started watching it not 'alf an hour ago, you assured me that its total lack of content and movement was due to it bein' tired and shagged out following a prolonged run here and in the USA!
Owner: Well, it's...it's, ah...probably pining for the voice.
Mr. Praline: PININ' for the Voice ?!?!?!? What kind of talk is that?, look, why did the show fall flat on is back the moment I got 'im home and switched on.
Owner: The judges prefer keepin' on their back! Remarkable bird, the Caroline id'nit, squire? Lovely plumage!
Mr. Praline: Look, I took the liberty of examining that show when I got it home, and I discovered the only reason that it had been on in the first place was that it had been NAILED there. They kept saying they nailed it, they nailed it. Then they smashed it.
(pause)
Owner: Well, o'course it was nailed there! If They hadn't nailed it, they would have smashed it, or owned it, but if I am honest with you the singer would have nuzzled up to the screen bent the speakers apart with its beat and VOOM! Freeview!
Mr. Praline: "VOOM"?!? Mate, this show wouldn't "voom" if you put four million volts through it! 'It's bleedin' demised!
Owner: No no! 'It's pining for the voice. Those spinning chairs.
Mr. Praline: 'It's not spinin'! 'It's passed on! It's so 70's This show is no more! It has ceased to be! 'Its expired and gone to meet 'it's producer SyCo! 'It's a stiff! Mr. Praline: Pray, do they talk English ?
Owner: Nnnnot really.
Mr. Praline: WELL IT'S HARDLY A BLOODY REPLACEMENT, IS IT?!!???!!?
Owner: N-no, I guess not. (gets ashamed, looks at his feet)
Mr. Praline: Well.
(pause)
Owner: Look, if you go to BBC1 they have Tess on, and it's very good, she's from near Bolton, she will be better for you, with a Claudia she does talk.
Mr. Praline: Bolton, eh? Very well.
(The customer leaves.)
Sergeant-Major: Quite agree, quite agree, too silly, far too silly... (takes viewer by the arm) Come on, you, you've got to go do another sketch now! Come on... (he walks off stage left, followed by the director and cameramen, leaving Simon alone on the set)
Owner: (to the audience) Well! I never wanted to do this in the first place. I wanted to be... a lumberjack!

Well that was an entertaining read. Certainly better than a certain somebody's usual rubbish.

Well I can only go on what I heard at work from XF fans and they were seriously unhappy. I'm not convinced this time it will work but only time will tell.

Certainly. Yes Poldark is doing fine. Its because expectations were higher forseries 2 given how series 1 did. Yes it has be recommissioned. Started filming series 3 a week of so ago.

I suspect both dramas will face each other in Autumn 2017.

When was the last time there was a 50 min clash on a Saturday?

The Beeb obviously saw the earlier TXF ratings when it was up on last year and wanted to put the boot in with the first live show. They know the bad press will stick and be widely publicised and will probably set the scene for the rest of the series. Casual viewers won't be bothered missing a show which they've read nobody watches anymore.

Either that or they did the schedule on the day when everyone thought ITV had nicked the Bake Off.

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm not happy about it. Chris and Gifty and Ivy were the only three that I thought must make the lives. It is a cock-up but I know why they've done it. I actually thought the doll was better box office and she could sing.

It got 43% share for 16-34 year olds. That's demo that I doubt no other show on TV gets (maybe BGT, GBBO and IACGMOOH, maybe).

I'm not going to take the XF overnights too seriously until it stops the big overlaps with SCD. One other thing, she is likeable. I suspect she will be popular and go quite far if they feature her right.

I actually can't remember. I bet you have to go back a good few years. I does seem like Strictly are targeting XF with that overlap which could have been reduced significantly. Surely they could have just started it at 6.20pm like the Saturday just gone. Come to think of it, when was the last time a Strictly performance show finished so late? 20.50 on a Saturday night is quite late for it (I know it did on the recent Friday show and of course Finals, but when else?!).

That last part did make me laugh though. Let's assume that's the reason...

Also, why should they be looking to avoid clashing with a show that SCD is now so far ahead of, anyway? They absolutely should be looking to take the most prime of primetime slots now.

Nobody's saying "don't clash" (though that would be the ideal scenario), they're saying "don't clash for an amount of time which is clearly aggressive scheduling".

Why should the BBC move their show wherever they please? Do you want them to have a monopoly over British TV (yes, actually, you probably do lol)? It's been like this for years, SCD starts 6-6.45 and XF starts at 8. Why change?

SCD *is* starting at 6:45, so what's the issue?

Anyway, I think it's pretty obvious that the timing is to coincide with the end of the football.

No, I don't think that the BBC should have a monopoly. What a naive thing to say. However, I don't think the BBC should be planning its schedules around giving a leg up to other shows on other networks, particularly when that shows decline is entirely of its own making, and not the BBC's.

As others have said, Strictly starts at 6.45pm just as the England match finishes, they scheduled Strictly in similar ways during the Rugby World Cup last year to avoid home nation matches.

Very good for Strictly yesterday. The X Factor is 0.4m down on last week despite a Strictly clash - I don't think anyone can be writing it's obituaries based on that. Next week will be intriguing; the first live show dipped to such a horrific level on Halloween last year they should be looking to beat it despite a 50 minute clash. Still think ITV should push using the +1 option far more in these scenarios - push The X Factor forward to 19.50 and time an ad break as Strictly finishes to promote the +1 option for those who missed the first hour.

Louis Theroux seemed to take viewers away from the other channels though they should timeshift back to the usual level.

That can't be the case as the football won't finish until 6:50 at the earliest and probably nearer 6:55. In any case it's only a qualifier against Malta, not exactly a home nation in the Rugby World Cup that needs to be avoided.

Kids are in bed and I have the choice of Pick, Challenge or the news. So I'm watching Bullseye from 1990. Three things strike me:

Jim didn't ask questions to the contestants at the start of the show; he would tell them instead. For instance he would say... So you are a teacher? Never noticed it before.

The lighting is so different to the post Millionaire era. The audience's faces are all clearly visible. Everything is bright rather than the low lighting we have now. No questions written on the screen and no eerie mood music.

Finally, yeah this show would still work today. Sunday evening, decent prizes and the right host and it'd clear 4m for 45 minutes.

Millionaire was great but it killed the joy of gameshows with the fun and silliness stripped out. I would never want to watch a repeat of it because it was very much a 'live' programme; as if it was a sporting event.

If they were to bring back Millionaire it'd need to be stripped daily like it originally was and I'd say you'd want it filmed on the day of broadcast as you watched to see if someone could win the jackpot.
Maybe the papers would not spoil it these days as they clearly don't spoil Strictly.

Delighted that Strictly is doing the business again this year. It is the best show on the box. So British, so BBC. Furthermore, the judges are qualified to judge making the show credible.

The X Factor's 'performance' is predictable. The big problem with it has always been it's lack of credibility.

Sorry, why shouldn't the BBC schedule it's shows where it likes? It's purpose is to provide a service for the GBP not to serve the needs, desires and wishes of ITV!

It's a 5.00pm kick off so barring injury time it shouldn't finish too much after 6.45pm. Qualifiers are more important than friendlies and it's England so people watch. The match is also in primetime so there will be more viewers around. Strictly would have been better off starting at 7.00pm to avoid the match completely. The qualifier against Slovakia peaked with nearly 8m at 6.50pm.
