They commissioned and created an awful lot of drama these past two years, so clearly they've been burning off the least successful during the quietest time. There hasn't been anything decent drama related since War and Peace, Death in Paradise and Silent Witness. Although, I do feel The Living and the Dead would have been a better fit for Autumn leading up to Christmas. Seems strange to lob it out in the summer and waste it.
I forgot to mention the absolutely awesome Happy Valley!

Well Impractical Jokers UK last night clearly struggled. It can only get worse. I suspect after ep2 this will be shunted to 3am in the morning.
They stubbornly persisted with the US one in a decent slot IIRC despite ratings collapsing. As the weeks go on it's going to look even worse that these two failures are joined at the hip filling a solid hour.

Well that's not good for BBC1, almost being beaten by C4 and C5.
No not good. I wonder if this will mean they will play safe with their drama's from now on and take less risks and go for crowd pleasers?

I suspect the next two weeks will be good for BBC 1 with blanket coverage of the olympics and itv have put sod all against it.

There's obviously been a deal struck between ITV and BBC re: The Olympics and their no effort.

Why would any commercial TV company bother with many new programmes during August?? Taking ITV as an example they have 15 primetime hours on weekdays.

They have 6 hours of soaps, leaving 9 hours for new programmes, next week they are showing Brief Encounters, Long Lost Family. There are quite a lot of reruns in the remaining hours, but it would be naive to waste money on new dramas or documentaries with such a limited viewership.

I wonder if the My Parents Are Aliens triple bills have boosted CITV a bit ?

Although its been repeated endlessly.

CITV have started showing Whats New Scooby Doo? which is doing ok for them,

This was previously show on CBBC and did well for them.

4.8M for Eat Well For Less is amazing. Nearly 5M for a PSB is brilliant in this day and age.

Saving lives at Sea is more of a daytime show is it not? I think BBC had shows like this in the morning slots.

Well it certainly looked like Gogglebox brought CBB down. Quite a lot. It's a large +1 rating for Gogglebox there, so i can only expect the other 9pm shows to add quite a bit on +1 too.

It's not a great night in general apart from Eat Well for Less which is doing incredibly.

Well it's almost double what the previous opener brought in, and is in a much harder time of year, so there's something.

Why do they continue making Suspects with those numbers? It's the telly equivalent of vanity publishing if you ask me - Bit of window-dressing in amongst the execrable tat they air the rest of the time.

Quite. Apparently the benefits porn is being phased out soon, though..........

Yep, it really is nonsense to suggest the public are getting bored with these food shows when they are getting figures like that.

Most likely Gallifrey Base.

Cash Trapped still doing OK and might yet get a recommission. Really surprising to me after the reaction it had when it went out.

Thanks. As I expected. Up on the 1.39m that the same episode last year got.

Cash Tipped will end up in the 1.7m region i reckon, whether that's enough for another series, I don't know.

It might be enough for a second series if it were moved earlier into the daytime schedule.

And next Thursday 8pm - NEW: Desperately Seeking Stardom: On Benefits.

I shit you not.

It's like they're just in business to out-parody Alan Partridge programme titles!

Before one or two get too carried away ripping into Suspects over only slightly inadequate ratings, it should probably be noted that BBC Two comedy Boy Meets Girl posted just 328k (2.0%) in the first half hour of Suspects' slot, and C4 wasn't too far ahead with 775k across the hour for sitcom Man Down followed by documentary A Granny's Guide to the Modern World.

Agreed, it's not terrible for Suspects at all.
