I think it should have hit 7m last night. But to be honest I think the results shows probably suffer now because there really isn't that much content. When XF was huge it didn't matter because they were an event, but now it's just a normal TV show people aren't going to sit through a load of filler. I wouldn't be surprised if last night's peak was similar to what the Sunday audition shows were peaking at, but people didn't bother with the filler as much. Let's face it, if you're watching on timeshift (either same day or otherwise) you'd have probably fast forwarded most of last night. It's why the timeshift for the results shows is always so low.

I do t think there's necessarily much they can do to change it, it's the nature of a results show and they aren't going to cut it. But I wouldn't be surprised to see the Saturday show slightly ahead of Sundays some weeks this year. I think the days of Sunday being way ahead of Saturday are long gone.

Overall, I think it's doing acceptably without really impressing. It's fine but I had hoped for a little more after how the first few weeks did. But it seems clear that audiences aren't as fussed on the live shows these days on any talent show. Perhaps those controversial results lost them a few hundred thousand but I'm not convinced the impact was massive. I definitely think they need to stick with the same judges/host next year though, a bit of consistency will help, I think people are fed up of the annual firing/hiring farce. Plus the group they've got works anyway.

It makes sense to compare it to the equivalent show last year where it got the same exact share% and was slightly down overall.

If X is up or down 200,000 from Y then that's really a wash. If it happens every week (like Poldark and Victoria) then that's a trend but, as Andrew Neil likes to point out, if you think they are accurate to the decimal point then ......

True but you still have to mention corresponding weekends last year if a series plays out in Autumn consistently for over a decade. Both are relevant.

Broadcast has it for BBC Four

Too highbrow these days for BBC Two or BBC One where the original was shown?

Yeah it is worth mentioning for sure. I don't think there's much difference between week 4 of lives and week 1 of lives. Judges Houses or 6 Chair or auditions are less relevant. The Voice is the same whereas some shows barely alter (Apprentice, Celebrity, SCD).

Sunday's rating is affected by the large SCD clash on Saturday. The consolidated will be more interesting but really we need a clash of no more than 15 minutes. Really now XF should see the arrow pointing slowly up unless SCD does another clash.

What BBC1 had last night is what ITV need to strive for on Saturdays. Only when they've got shows at 6 and 7pm that can get ~5m in January will they have the ammo to take on SCD.
So imagine Ninja/Voice/XF from 6-9:30pm. People need to have a reason to decide that recording BBC1 is the simplest option and that means ITV needs multiple shows.

Obviously the Voice can be one of the shows. The 7pm show needs to have Takeaway appeal. This is where they miss Blind Date. This is why I'm bemused they've kneecapped Meet the Parents.

Thanks Lewie.

Stick it on the other place as well.

Gogglebox adding just short of a million to its overnight rating of 2.69m. It was adding over a million in time shift before this series. Still a hit but not shining as brightly as it used to.

Yes, it got 3.64m which is good but way down on the same night last year when it got 4.76m. That's a decline of 1.12m, or 23.5%.

Looking at the TV archives it was originally shown on BBC2 in 1978, before it was repeated three years later on BBC1 Saturdays.

At least it's had some 'publicity' in recent weeks thanks to Corrie.

By my calculations Strictly added about 1.4M on it's overnight. OK I suppose. It never is a behemoth in the consolidated numbers is it?

On the other hand the Saturday show is up 1.34M year on year. So that is impressive.

Looking back at previous years. This year's Week 2 is the second highest Week 2 in the history of the show (only bettered by Series 10 in 2012) with 10.88M.

That's how I remember Roots being shown Ray. BBC1 had it first in 1977 then BBC2 repeated it the following year. Started on Good Friday in 1977 and I remember it being on Saturday and Sunday that first week too. I know it was 1977 because I remember The Goodies spoofing it later that year. Don't ask.

I think this weekend's overnights could have been a bit better. I know Saturday had the clash so might timeshift well but last night should probably have been higher. It should have been close to 7m. The figures were OK but it doesn't have much room to drop. The Sunday shows don't tend to timeshift much either, I think they need decent guests if they're going to improve, although I did quite like the format changes they did last night.
