From rzt:

Wed 12th October:

Great British Bake Off: 10.43m (45.5%)
The Missing: 6.02m (30.1%)
Good start for The Missing. I thought that 1st episode was gripping stuff and nice to have a thriller in the post Bake-Off slot a la Doctor Foster last year. I just wasn't interested in the subject matter for Our Girl...

On the rating, that 6m+ overnight must be the 1st BBC ONE drama in months to hit that level since The Night Manager or War and Peace. There's been some good reviews in the press already and hoping it will be one of those rare occasions when a drama stabilises or climbs rather than falls.

Does anyone think the next series of Silent Witness will air this year? It's just there's an article on here with Emilia Fox which mentions the next series being the 20th anniversary of the series, and it started in 1996 ..so will it air in 2016 as that would make sense, or are they going to put the series on in January 2017 like they have done in the last few years.

The 20th Anniversary series has already been shown at the beginning of this year. That it was series 19 is neither here nor there. The 20th series will be shown in 2017 as usual.

There is no obvious reason for any show's series number coinciding with the number of years since its first showing on BBC.

Good for The Apprentice to rise slightly. I imagine the year on year comparisons are more favourable this week. That's a very good audience at 9pm.

So The Apprentice rose. I suspect that means Anne Robinson's Britain with Pets rose from last week.

Thanks Ray

It was a good edition of The Apprentice last night too. I'm glad it went up.

Did The Apprentice: You're Fired make BBC2's top 3 for the day?

Changing the title of 'Anne Robinson's Britain' to 'Britain's Secrets' didn't do any good: 2.5m.

Apprentice year on year comparison (2nd episode):

2016 - 5.64m (27.2%)
2015 - 5.52m (25.9%)
2014 - 6.07m (26.5%)
2013 - 5.21m (21.8%)
2012 - 6.33m (26.7%)

I'm surprised it was up on last week, all the above episodes have been down on the opener.

It needed to change the day and time more than anything else.

Bushmills did Strictly: It Takes Two get close to 2m any day this week with Will Young's departure news?

I'm surprised it was up on Wednesday last year. Was 2013 it's biggest year or was that 2011? I can't remember.

2011. It was a big success that year. 10m official for the final. And that was in the summer too.

Episode 2 aired on a Thursday last year as they did a 2 night launch. A good rating for it nonetheless.

2011 was The Apprentice's biggest year consolidated, I think it was 2009 in the overnights.

BBC2 had a good night, no sign of You're Fired though unfortunately. BBC1 did well too. I think ITV did well until Paranoid started.

You're right. It was a two day launch last year. The Apprentice up on 2015 isn't bad at all.

Ah 2011! The year with the massive final. That was very impressive in Summer.

Good for The Apprentice to gain on its audience and be up YOY. It was a phenomenal episode so that bodes well for future weeks too.

We can be very hypocritical here. Criticising The X Factor for manipulating situations and then we love The Apprentice and it does the same. Just an observation.

Yup, it is the same thing basically. Both produced by Thames so not really surprising. Is Richard Holloway involved with The Apprentice at all?

I don't have a problem with it in either case. Easier to mask on a pre-recorded show I guess.

I think, in both instances (though particularly X Factor's) the allegations are completely overblown. People love to be cynical and over-analyse. Of course there is producer tinkering here and there but people like to paint themselves as psychological geniuses by pointing out rubbish.

Something else I noticed - the share for last night is higher than 2014. Shows way fewer people were around (perhaps expected since it's on Thursdays now? I dunno).

That does make sense, a bit of a ditzy moment from me

The Fall seems to be staying steady at 1.8m now which is a strong figure I think - I'm really enjoying this series. It'll be interesting to see how Paranoid did, I think it has got better as it's gone along, but it had to hit the ground running and it's too late to get the lost viewers back now. I suspect it will stay in the mid 2s.

Surprised the Anne Robinson documentary is doing poorly - on the surface, it looks like an interesting enough series and her spending secrets documentary did better last year, albeit with the Bake Off lead in. Even against Emmerdale and Paul O Grady, I was expecting a million more for this.
