But it wasn't exactly Super Saturday. Our only medal hope was in the cycling road race and, even then, we were pretty much out of the running by the time that main Olympic programme began at 6.20 and certainly well before the race ended at about 8pm.

Any CBB ratings?

Good for Catchphrase to hold its own, and good for Super 8 on 4 doing higher than the once-mighty Big Brother.

Yes think it was a pretty good rating to be honest. People have to remember this isn't London, which turned into a huge national love- in, its inhabiting a time zone which doesn't benefit our peaktime to a great degree, many of the crowd pulling Swimming and Athletics finals will be well past midnight for instance.

Well they were on at two different times. At 10 30 why would CBB beat Super 8?

Those Olympic ratings look decent enough but a bit underwhelming. It isn't London and it'll perk up over the fortnight but that doesn't look much more than the last Commonwealth Games. I'd expect much bigger figures later on though.

Not much to note elsewhere. The second Skyfall screening in a week did very poorly it seems, although sadly still looks to have done better than the new content they aired last Saturday.

Those Olympics figures look ok to me. The main prime time slot was quite a weak line up of sports, no must watch event was going on. The figures will go up and down across the fortnight.

The Olympic ratings look fine to me. I think people just keep thinking of 2012. This is not doing much worse than Beijing is it? They are ratings which are the norm.

Blimey, it's only day one, full of minor sports and uncompetitive heats. Agree they look fine.
That London figure was no doubt questioned four years ago....

The atmosphere in most of the venues is dead.
Some big names in the Tennis and the place was nearly empty same with the Equestrian centre, Its early days but if its the same when events start in the main arena ...

I'm watching Sky Olympic channels. Yesterday saw the full gymnastic qualifying sessions. Prior to that the road race. BBC1 and BBC4 are dipping in and out of all sorts. Water Polo isn't of much interest! Suspect many are doing same or using red button.

Yes I think the British mindset these days is one of needing to be seen at-or at least being able to say that you have attended, a big event. London 2012 was the biggest ever British event -and full stadiums for heats were the norm iirc. I don't think we will see quite the same level of interest in Rio.

It will be interesting to see how well attended the World Athletic Championships are next year in London.

They're not "Sky Olympic Channels". Just to clarify any confusion. They're "BBC Red Button Olympic Channels" carried on the Sky and Freesat platforms.

Oh dear. They are on Sky sports channels and are available to record. Something not on offer elsewhere. Anyway my viewing yesterday will not have been registered on main BBC channels which was my point.

Same here. Without Eurosport this year, the additional channels are the only way to avoid the awful BBC 'talk not show (unless it's a Brit or Bolt)' coverage.

Yes, I appreciate your point. But they also appear on Freesat's "News and Sport" sub menu. It doesn't change the fact that they are not Sky Channels. They are free to air extra channels provided by the BBC. I don't like Sky getting credit for something that is not of their making. BBC1 is on Sky and that is not a Sky channel either.

Carried by and (if the 2012 arrangement is in force again) paid for by Sky. They're definitely coming from transponders leased by Sky and not the BBC.

Are those watching the so called "Sky Olympic Channels". the same people who complained to the BBC about Postman Pat episode - that was shown on channel five.

The BBC are providing these extra channels, not sky. Sky do not have any rights for the games.

To their benefit, to create confusion like this. It's in their own interests to keep viewers on their own platform for a major sports event.

They would come from money paid by the BBC for Sky to carry their channels. Freesat carriage charges are not in any way affiliated with Sky.

No. From Roger Mosey's blog in 2012.

Quote:
“Many of those discussions are still continuing, but the BBC, Sky and Freesat have announced today that they've come to an agreement that will deliver the 24 channels to all Sky and Freesat homes. Sky will also pick up the costs of satellite distribution, irrespective of whether other platforms join in - though we hope and believe there'll be more announcements soon.”

I want to watch my preferred sport not some mash up of sports and a load of talking heads. I want to record it to watch when it suits me. The only way I can do this is to watch via channels on Sky planner. Sky viewers are more likely to be those who create their own viewing schedule.

I honestly didn't realise the BBC was sharing the Olympics rights with Sky.

It makes you wonder why Sky News still credits the Olympics footage to BBC Sport rather than Sky Sports.
