I used to start watching the Olympics around 5 hours after it had started. The BBC did so many replays and recaps it was easy to catch up over the evening.
Ditto for the Ryder Cup. I can't watch golf live as you have adverts, lots of walking around and people thinking about shots.
Cricket and NFL have set plays every 30 seconds so it tends to be injuries and adverts to ffwd. I think there is only 20 minutes of actual tennis in the average men's match. In soccer you have around 2 minutes of action in a game. Depends how you define action of course.
Dramas are the best resistor to fast forwarding. You can't miss any of Agatha Christie.
