It's funny that, as you are usually so positive about the ITV soaps.
And when EastEnders have a big episode nobody is allowed to give any opinion but one which is 100% positive. There is no way the posts like which have dominated tonight would have been allowed to go unchecked.

Out of interest, how popular is your 'blog'? I can't imagine you get all that many hits if your intention is to annoy people.

EastEnders haven't had a really big episode since Peggy's funeral. Grant's return was a damp squib.
The Emmerdale stunt was pretty impressive in a non-soapy way.
Like the helicopter crash - it sold itself via social media and got that genre of audience chattering and excited. Cleverly didn't kill anyone off, so they'll tune in tomorrow night.
But some of the character driven stuff was beyond predictable.
The Robron underwater stuff was very much fanfiction for the fans.
Ashley's story was probably the most poignant & human storyline we've had this week - Emma's, the most bonkers and serving a completely different type of viewer.
It will be interesting to see if it gets higher ratings than the helicopter stunt which aired in August last year (it should simply by the fact we're now well into October)
But as with all soap stunts - the "drama" will need to be compelling next week in the aftermath or the "suddenly interested" viewers will just disappear again (like the helicopter stunt.

Really?!? I didn't think the NTA was a 'serious' award like the Brits or Baftas but was more Smash Hits pollwinners.

Unlike Brits & Bafta's, they're voted for by the great british public - and they're televised - and they make internet soap news-site headlines.
Publicity, publicity, publicity -
And you win these awards by chasing after the audience that votes for these awards - and the voting happens primarily via social media voting - so you chase after the social media audience.
Hence - stunts, Big Weeks, big reveals - all happen during the times of the year when the voting is open for the great british public - be they NTA's BSA's, Inside Soap or whatever.
These continuous round of soap awards now dominate the timing & scheduling of narrative decisions made by the soaps.

You don't add anything to the discussion, you literally just promote your blog. If it was ratings (or viewing figures

Where's this drama going to come from? They might have had drama on Mondays in the past, but they didn't have it on Wednesdays. Now they've got a drama on Wednesday which is going up against weak ITV opposition and enjoying the biggest lead-in of the week and doing very well. What benefit would there be on a Monday? It would get a much worse lead-in and go up against a much stronger drama on ITV.
This argument might have merit if BBC1 weren't showing drama on several other nights of the week, but they are. If you look back over the years, BBC1 are showing as much drama at this time of year as they always have, more or less (bearing in mind there is less money about and the BBC policy now is for fewer, bigger pieces).
They're not showing it on Monday, but so what? Because shows rate better on Mondays? The last few weeks have hardly suggested that. And that's beside the obvious point that BBC2 have been showing drama most Mondays this autumn.

Yes that's a good point. The other thing being that if the BBC, for instance, were banging in with Silent Witness in these Cold Feet weeks there would be a few people saying they were trying to crush their commercial rivals.

For several years we have had drama on Monday on BBC1 in the Autumn. BBC1 don't use Monday that much at all these days. Only a handful have been on BBC1 on Monday this year like A Midsummer Night's Dream and that was with drama nowhere near BBC2 on the same night. Monday on BBC1 is one of the worst nights for television. Designed to drive up Netflix uptake!

With ITV increasing the amount of drama they show drama clashes are becoming increasingly unavoidable.

Walliams has long since outstayed his welcome. When will the Beeb realise this? It seems they're keeping him sweet just so they can adapt his books.

He also has Blankety Blank on ITV and a BBC sketch show.....and he's still doing BGT as well.
