I ask this occasionally but never get a proper answer but why are all the over 65's lumped together when all the other age groups are put in bands of 10 years or so? surely a group that goes from 65-110 will obviously have more people than all the other age bands? and why is this considered bad anyway since they are the ones with the time to watch TV and the ones with all the money these days.?

Provisional schedules have Planet Earth 2 down to launch on Sunday 6th November at 8pm. A bit surprised they aren't showing it at 9pm but it's a good slot and I could see it beating (and denting) The X Factor there. ITV won't be thrilled.

That's actually a much better slot for Planet Earth than against I'm A Celebrity at 9pm. Should be good for 5/6m but would be higher on one of the weeknights at 9pm.

Yes I thought they'd want it at 9pm but it'll do well there. The Strictly lead-in will help. I could see at least the first couple of episodes beating X Factor (these Attenborough series do sometimes tail off a bit over the run).

Well I don't know if they have all the money, particularly the ones that watch a lot of TV. Plus since they are so easy to reach it makes the harder to reach audiences more valuable. Obviously some products like cars, fast food, technology sell better to younger audiences so they will also want to maximise reach of those groups.

As for the age breakdown - you can look at smaller groups like 65-74 etc but for most of the interfaces I'm aware of it's much harder and less instant to get those numbers. I think just for historical reasons but yes I think it's now behind the times particularly with the retirement age increasing and there's a strong case for at least breaking out 65-74s.

For all the improvement in characterisation and writing under Sean O'Connor of late (and, in my opinion, there has been improvement after the sensationalism and retconning under Dominic Treadwell-Collins), EastEnders' figures and shares are disappointingly threadbare. Must try harder.

So BBC2 had at least 2m viewers from 6.30-9.00pm. They had a good night. Strictly: It Takes Two showing up how badly Too Much TV did in that 6.30pm slot. And i keep saying it, but Great British Menu does great business for BBC2 in the 7pm hour.

I agree. Magic shows don't tend to work on ITV and it won't appeal to the older audience, whilst Off Their Rockers has worn a bit thin now and ratings have declined since series 1. Plus reading the description this year celebrities (Joey Essex, Katie Price and Louis Walsh) are getting involved which will ruin it. Louis Walsh I kind of get as he's at least the right age, the other two are pathetic!

Surprised the gap between the two Corrie episodes was that wide. Looks like some viewers have switched off again already. Pleased Cold Feet ended on 5m.

This might be a stuoid question but how do you get the demos for tv shows, how on earth do they know what age group is watching what. It doesn't make any sense!

Last nights episodes of Corrie were pretty dire, so I don't think there is much chance on Corrie improving if this is what we'll see under Kate Oates tenure.
