This is a fabulous post and it's a shame there isn't a special thread for posts like these.

I make that 48 dramas, 120 episodes filmed or filming with another 108 to come and the multi-episodes ones.
So about 240 episodes over 365 days. At least. 5 a week though I don't know if these include BBC2 and I guess some will end up in 2018.

I'd be surprised if we'veever had so much new drama from the BBC before.

I'm not sure the match will affect it. It's not the same target demographic and 'only' 7m of the 10m watch GBBO live anyway. The 1m watching ManU beat City could easily watch Bake Off at 10pm and still be counted in the 14m.

It's needlessly snooty. "Of course our readers wouldn't watch something so downmarket as the soaps", they could cover them in a more broadsheet way without having to resort to the trashy sensationalised "Ken dies?" articles.

It's like how they broke with the unwritten rules and shunted Channel 5 off the main spread.

We've been here before where it looks like they have a bumper amount of dramas next year. Some of those will take a long time to appear and some will be BBC2 and we will still end up with quiet periods. I bet a significant number will be 2018.

The BBC have had a longer list thn this before. I think it was Yorkie who posted it a couple of years ago.

ITV back then in 2014, the drama list was pitiful. This time, the list should be matching BBC1 for upcoming and returning drama.

Well I think we all knew it would be Candice winning! Wanted Jane myself, but anywho, end of an era on BBC1 hello non stop adverts galore. A year break too I look forward to watching this every year.

Well it better get high ratings because it'll be the last time for ratings of them sorts!

Had to stop when it mentioned it was being produced by Katie Taylor the woman who oversaw and was Head of Delagation on the United Kingdom's worst run in Eurovision history.

It's amazing Bake Off has got to the point of 12.5m being disappointing but it's kinda true it would seem underwhelming (although calling a 12.5m rating 'enormously disappointing' would be overegging it a bit) This series has been up YOY on the whole though so I'm expecting a 14m rating as all the catch up/iplayer audience watch live- One final enormous surprise would be lovely to send it off on the beeb though

I've always been stunned by the way Bake Off increases for its final. It's not the type of show that you would expect two million people to skip throughout the series but tune in to see the winner. Though my first ever episode was the final a couple of years ago and that got me watching the entire series the next year. Maybe that's it.

There's still the Christmas Specials to come. Clever scheduling and marketing as the swansong of Bake Off as we know it might allow it to get similar figures.

They're not. There's loads of it. QT, Marr, Peston, Murnaghan, The Agenda, The Daily Politics (which is on, er, daily), not to mention Newsnight and the various news bulletins on the main channels.

It 's important stuff, but not mass audience fayre, which is why it's always shown out of peak, unless there's a huge political story going on (eg, an election or EU referendum).

Putting 'The Agenda' on at 8pm was an unmitigated ratings disaster - even you must be able to see that. It got 875,000. Has anything ever rated lower for ITV in that slot?

There's only one possible reason for such bizarre scheduling. ITV are lobbying to move News at Ten (again) and need to convince Ofcom they're still committed to public service broadcasting.

Have you not noticed the snooty attitude that ITV have towards Coronation Street and Emmerdale. The soap repeats are screened on ITV2, the home of frivolous entertainment, rather than ITV3, the hoe of the very best of ITV drama.

ITV3 will quite happily screen On The Buses and You're Only Young Twice, the unsurprisingly long-forgotten Peggy Mount/Pat Coombs sitcom, but they won't touch the soap operas with a barge-pole.

Also, ITV3 won't put home grown drama on against drama on ITV (currently, when it's Tutankhamen on ITV, it's Rising Damp Forever on ITV3; when it's The Level on ITV, it's Long Lost Family on ITV3), but they don't mind putting homegrown drama on against the soaps. Not in the 7pm hour, where it's always Murder She Wrote, but on Monday at 8pm it's currently Doc Martin and on Thursday and Friday it's Rosemary And Thyme.

The Agenda could have been screened at 10pm with it incorporating 10 minutes of news before blending in to the discussion show. It even has the same host.

To those who post fantasy ITV schedules, how's this for ideas...

Run Countrywise as an hour show against Holby and try to pick up the older demographic. Holby isn't strong and in time CW could grow from 2m to 4m+. It'd take months and would occasionally make way for award shows or sport. Or try it on Wednesdays after the Corrie lead-in.

Extend POG Dogs and Martin Lewis to 10x60 and maybe try to replicate the Dogs success with cats or pets generally. You've now got some solid factual stuff for Tuesday or Wednesday or Thursday at 8pm.
Now you need a property show to mix in with it. C4 and BBC excel at this sort of thing.

Toss in some gameshows and gulp, some sitcoms and you've got a channel worth watching before 9pm.

Probably best when bigging up your own writing not to make a grammatical mistake with your first word. Just saying!

Bit of an odd number. It would be a bit of stretch to make one book last that long but it doesn't seem a number into which to get 2 or 3 books neatly (assuming that they're going to use the books at all that is). Do we have any info on how it's gonna work?

I've been meaning to post this for a while, but I'm sorry to say this is not an 'excellent' blog, in fact it's not even an average one- There are so many mistakes across all your posts, spelling and grammar are poor and it comes across as what my English teacher used to term a 'random stream of conciousness,' in that a lot of what you say is fine in isolation, but no thought has gone into how you are going to say/structure it.

You clearly have opinions about TV matters that you wish to share, and that's fine- But if you are asking other people to read your work then you need to proof read it throughly and ensure it is actually readabe (Me Personally is no way to start a sentence ever)

I think extending Countrywise to 1hr and trying it out Tuesday is a better idea than The Agenda. But I suspect, on Tuesday it'll pull in just over 2m - not enough to warrant doing it again. Its not bold enough to get viewers watching.

Extending it to 1hr and you'll instanty have ftv (and others) going on about ITV copying the BBC for years to come.

The BBC do Countryfile. Now I bet not many of those viewrs would even bother with a show like that with adverts. Why would they? They have Countryfile.

As you say, it would be better trying Countrywise on Wednesday after Corrie, but I suspect it'll still struggle. BBC Countryfile doesn't do that well away from Sunday. The combo on Sunday and CF boost it ten fold, then throw in SCD and it gains like Pointless. Another show that is weakening on weekdays, but can be boosted on weekends.

Extending POG dogs is a better idea, but I don't think making spin-offs is going to work. It'll likely weaken the brand as a whole. I think POG Dogs would do well on Sunday's (or Wednesday at 8pm) away from Countryfile.
Martin Lewis I don't think could sustain a 1hr format. But scheduling his show on Tuesday at 7.30pm is a better place to improve the gap between Emmerdale and the 8pm hr.

Gameshows and quizzes have been tried out on Tuesday and flopped: The Exit List being an example.

No think Tuesday needs some bold programmes,intruiging, interesting for the casual viewer.

7pm Emmerdale
7.30pm Martin Lewis/Cornwall with Caroline Quentin/The Zoo
8pm Travelogues/Britain's Busiest Airport/Sugar Free Farm/Step Back in Time
9pm Drama - this will need a drama already successful and can rate well, i.e. Doc Martin to get viewers used to watching drama on Tuesday ITV.

I think many viewers just avoid ITV Tuesday's without even looking at the schedules tbh.

I'm not sure it being a Tuesday is the problem for ITV.

The problem is that ITV schedule programmes on Tuesday that just aren't appealing to viewers.

Personally, I'd like to see ITV try something different on a Tuesday by moving away from factual and turning it into an evening of light entertainment - which was after all once a major strength of the network and in the days of Thames wasn't just confined to weekends. Run game shows, quizzes, sitcoms, chat shows, shiny floor shows, etc... but do it in a block from 7.30 to 10.00 (no need to run scared of EE or Holby City given their current ratings) and advertise the night accordingly. Mix in new formats with some rebooted old favourites and see what happens.

Two potential long-term benefits for ITV in this approach - more competitive ratings on a Tuesday night and the potential to find new hit formats that could subsequently be "promoted" into weekend slots in the future.
