I imagine it'll be a new set next year as it'll be coming from a different location with Fountain Studios no more. I imagine it wasn't worth investing in one this year.

I think the Halloween theme has worked well. The production has been really good, again it looks really good and they've embraced it. I would agree that the issue is that people just aren't that invested in the contestants. That's what they need to change next year. Don't fiddle with the panel again, keep the lighter tone but do a better job of making people care about the contestants that are actually going through.

A new studio doesn't mean a new set. They could just put the same one in the New studio space. Strictly kept the same set when they moved to Elstree, only change was making it slightly bigger and wider as they had more floor space. I'm glad they did change the set in 2010, much more versatile.

Anyone know if the ratings for Judge Rinder's TV show have gone up since he has been on Strictly ??

TV producers often have this funny idea about sets having to look the same if the show has been sold internationally - I have a feeling this may have happened with XF, but I do think they will change it at long last next year at the start of a new 3 year deal. Saying that, I can kind of see why they'd stick with it for this long anyway; it is a really great set imo, far better than any BGT one.

If they didn't seize the opportunity to make a new set, they'd be utter fools.

Yep, BGT sets have been let down after let down. Always seemed like XF's poor brother in comparison.

The current set is probably custom made to the current studio space though. Wherever X Factor ends up next year, some changes will have to be made at the bare minimum. I think it's almost a guarante it'll be changed.

Indeed. There's much discussion over on the TV Forum website about where XF and BGT will end up with Fountain closing. Elstree seems high on the list - that's the sort of thing Cowell would have loved back in the day to get the tabloids going "X Factor contestants causing havoc for Strictly come dancing Pros"

I agree that X Factor have done well with their Fright Night week. But once it goes live the ratings dip, which has been happening for several years.

Disagree, the BGT ones are superb and far better than XF ones, though I do prefer the previous studio to the current one.

New titles.
Each judge having one act per category.
Or no judge having a category at all and maybe each category having celebrity mentors through the series (for instance Louis from 1D being the mentor for the boys).
No audience for 6Chairs.
The public select a wildcard for each mentor after JH to appease more fans of acts.
No elimination in week1 but spread 16 performances over two nights (like Idol did).
After that two go per week to get the numbers down to normal.

The best change would be the removal of judges pretending to be mentoring acts. It'd improve the judging element of it.

And rename it Pop Idol?

Depending on the amount of space, I'd like X Factor to have a few different "areas" for the live shows. A main stage, some sort of balcony area and then a smaller second stage for the simple performances.

And on the topic of a new set, I'm sure if they did have a new set it'd either be hated due to the rule above, and "another nail in the coffin", or seen as a desperation, "as if having a new set will bring back the viewers".

Nonsense! X Factor has been criticised on here for years, even when it was bigger. You lot have crappy memories.

God Simon Cowell didn't take long to get out of there. He could have least waited until the end of the closing shot before pissing off!

The actual show wasn't too bad overall. Will still be low in the ratings though.

There are some constructive ideas going round by people who would like XF to be better - it's a shame these impartial posters are being drowned out by blinkered loud voices of cynicism and blind defence.

Reduced floor space if you have a stage in the shape of an X.
They could go to a new studio and still do lots of LCD screens like now. This set was a radical departure to the previous one, it's basically just screens.

X Factor was brilliant tonight - shows it still can put on something light and entertaining when they want to. Strictly just came across as flat unfortunately; think there was a lot of a weird song choices and it didn't help that two of the key players had performance issues.

Not that this will affect the ratings at all, in any shape or form.

Depends how bad the rating is. You can't just discount the number immediately because "Halloween".

ITV are clearly making some money back with product placement: TalkTalk, Youview, LastMinute.com, Lenovo.

He's mistaken. It has been hated by various posters on this thread over the years. The fact that ratings are down is like a cherry on the cake for them.
