They care so much about their content they couldn't be bothered to make sure the technical side was done professionally. Who else would air 30 minutes of 4:3 material stretched to fill widescreen tellys?

People watched it twice though, including my family. There was nothing else on at 2pm on a Sunday and it was only 50 odd minutes. It was wallpaper TV in the background and a little refresher before Tuesday's show.

Strictly isn't playing with people's futures in the same way as XF. If they are 'fixing' it despite there being nothing to be gained in doing so then it's a lot less blatant than it is on XF as I don't really notice anything as a viewer. Then I go to the SCD forum on here and am quite shocked by a lot of the claims, people seeing things I don't, but the regulars there live and breathe the programme and know it a lot better than I do. I don't post in that forum or think too much about it outside of when it's on.
That doesn't mean they're always right though. Some of it reeks of paranoia. Given the mean and unwarranted attacks on the Cliftons, I take most of it with a pinch of salt.

No doubt some did but we have no way of knowing how many. I doubt they were all second time viewers. Not quite the same as only following it on Sundays, but I only tuned in for the Sunday showing if I'd missed both or either of the ones during the week. I certainly didn't watch eps twice in a week.

Possibly. They like to have someone on from BBC Breakfast. While I don't condone them pressurising anyone into taking part, I don't really see that as them 'manipulating' the show since those sort of negotiations take part before the series starts.

Exactly, I used to do this too as you've just said.... nothing else was on. I never used to miss it niether. Ee was great back then.

That's like saying pointless celebrities gets the ratings because its the best quiz show on T.V which im sure a lot of people would disagree with or agree with. Just because a show gets the viewing figures it dosent imply it is the best in its category.

It was. That Den/Wicksy/WilmotBrown era was so good it didn't just get me to give up Corrie, but it made Dallas and Dynasty look bad (they were losing it in the late 80s).
Having said that I love Neighbours and Home and Away in the 80s too but then I was their demographic. Evening soaps peaked in the 80s.

Tut held up better than most of us expected. I hear it's not great which perversely is good news for ITV. The 9pm slot is a great battle.
I love these next four days as we have some interesting nights at last. Dark Angel, PoB Awards, Davina and Buble on Thursday. The most important long-term one there is Davina.
The Peter Kay effect strikes again: Last night's C5 documentary pulled in their biggest audience on a Sunday at 9pm since January 31. Excluding Celebrity Big Brother, it's the most watched show in that slot in over two years. (Jason Statham movie Safe premiered to 2m on August 17 2014).
