Larry Lamb is reported to have actually signed the deal, rather than just being rumoured to be going in.
Hmm. The Daily Star reported Brendan Cole's death 10 days ago. I think I'll wait for the start, check the actual lineup, and then decide to avoid it like the plague as I've done every year of its existence.

Tutankhamen has performed about as well as I would expect a drama about excavating pyramids to do. I'm amazed that they managed to stretch the story to four hours. I think ITV have their eyes more on international sales with this one.

Could Tut have only ended up in this slot because ITV brought forward Victoria to get a jump on Poldark thus leaving a four week gap between Victoria and I'm A Celebrity? Had Vicky started the same week as Ross and ran weekly (without a Monday episode) then there would have been two weeks between Victoria and I'm A Celebrity, enough for Dark Angel whose 90 minute episodes suggest a Sunday night slot rather than moving News At Ten on a Monday (unless they edited Dark Angel from 3 x 60 minute episodes.) Or maybe Dark Angel was meant for the Sunday and Monday of the August Bank Holiday. Nice, cheery bank holiday viewing that would have been.

Dark Angel was always meant to be 2x90m but I suspect it was planned for a Sunday slot, it was in the can for a while, it was in the trailers for ITV's Winter schedule last year but it got pushed back.

ITV do have a few dramas that I think will air this like Tina and Bobby which I imagine will be Mondays in December since there are 3 Mondays available after IAC is done. Maigret's Dead Man likely will air on one of the Sunday in December that isn't Christmas Day.

I really liked Maigret. I think it will do quite well again for ITV.

Interesting that they are keeping Tess Daly and new host Graham Norton apart on Children in Need night - Tess doing the opening bit with Greg James then Graham doing the middle slot

I enjoy the well thought out 'crits' and follow this thread with enjoyment. I have a vested interest and would like to ask, in view of some of the stinkers foisted on us lately, how can ITV possibly defend cancelling Home Fires? Well acted, Female led Drama, good viewing figures, lauded all over the world. Am I missing something?
ITV issues exactly the same press release for every cancelled show (one of these days they're going to forget to change the title and look even more silly!) so they don't defend any decision. What goes through the heads of the commissioning bods will remain forever a mystery!

I did as well, I imagine ITV wanted more than two films a year but Rowan Atkinson likely couldn't commit to more than two a year.

You can have a free month of Netflix any time you like. It's their standard opening bid. Some of us have even had 3 (or is it 4?) free months over a period of time. Not saying they're desperate for subscribers but ....
Not if I'm already paying for Netflix...

Seems to be more desperate on the side of Radio Times to be honest.

I'll go for 4.9m/24% for Dark Angel though it'll soar past 6m after 7 days. It should be hitting 5m considering the lack of competition but it was Halloween.

Unlikely rating source! Presumably includes +1?

Quite a good start for it anyway.

So probably around 1.2m-1.3m in total. Decent start, especially as it normally goes up over the course of the run.

Previously... (overnights inc. C5+1)
S1EP1: 1.29M
S1EP2: 1.55M
S1EP3: 1.37M
S2EP1: 0.80M
S2EP2: 1.00M
S2EP3: 1.12M
S2EP4: 1.00M
S2EP5: 1.35M
S2EP6: 1.35M

You can play the victim all you like but

was deliberately provocative and you can't complain when people take issue with this view.
It doesn't take a lot to provoke you. But please, this is a platform for honest opinions on viewing figures. I'm not going to hold back in case it offends, nor should anyone.

If you wish to defend how Tut has performed despite compelling evidence that it's been a major weak link then be my guest. However I certainly won't be backing down on my view that it has been a disaster, which I've shown my working for. If that's not enough, I suggest we leave the matter there.

Its a good series. Though wouldn't it be better to Ch5 to be building up the 7pm slot, where it appears weaker with mainly rpt's?

I think ITV's recent primetime performance has been very unsatisfactory. Tuesdays and Wednesdays have been varying degrees of disaster and they've had two big drama flops on Thursday and Friday. Throw in the dire schedule surrounding The X Factor on Saturdays and the underperforming Tutankhamun on Sundays and it has been a rotten few weeks for them in primetime. Even the bright spots like Cold Feet have maybe been below expectations. Tutankhamun certainly hasn't done well but it probably isn't the main concern right now. Hopes clearly weren't that high as its been sat on the shelf for ages (it was filmed last Autumn) and I suspect it only got a Sunday slot as it fit with the number of weeks they had between Victoria and IAC.
Good post. It's fair to say when you look at it in context that Tut has not been the biggest problem with ITV's schedule this autumn. I would fully agree with that. I only highlighted Tut in the first place because I was discussing Humans' weakish start and then of course that one-line within a much longer post was jumped upon. But yeah, considering the promise there was at the beginning of the season, there's been a surprising number of flops & disappointments over at ITV this autumn and the schedule hasn't flowed very well at all.

Long term though I'm not worried for them. I think Lygo is absolutely the right man to turn it around. Everything he's revealed publicly about his plans has been very encouraging. Now of course it's not going to happen overnight, but gradually I would expect to see things improve. Especially on a core night like Sunday.

I've been watching the Andrew Marr thing on BBC4 and found it pretty good - is that a good rating for BBC4 for that slot on a Monday (sorry, don't follow the ratings that closely...)?
