Jason Manford has had two formats on ITV. They were both flops. He was a figure of fun to hate at round here a year or two ago.
Don't get me wrong, I'd like all these old game shows coming back, but I can't see them rating. If it isn't just questions its sneered at. The dying days of Play your Cards Right weren't great. It looked quite old fashioned in the Pop Idol/Big Brother/Millionaire/Weakest Link era, which resulted in ITV moving it to 5:30pm and Brucie getting narked off. And the slots aren't the issue, SCD and TXF is dominating now, but that's only the autumn season. There's clearly a Make Nostalgia Great Again mood around and the Millionaire look that you see on the lotto and other quizzes are quite dated in their own way. I may be proved very wrong and blankety Blank will be a great test. |

Pretty much. They sold TV Centre which is still being renovated so they can't go there. Plus when it's back up and running it will have gone from 8 studios to 3. A slow hand clap everyone!

Re: the Radio Times Netflix offer discussed a few days ago. Fair to say this promotion could not have been more poorly thought out.
Firstly, you are only supposed to be able to redeem one code per account. This is apparently not the case, so there are reports of codes being stacked and several months of free Netflix redeemed. But worse than that, the codes are not sealed within the magazines and so people are actually going into supermarkets, flicking through to the relevant part and effectively stealing the codes. ![]() But, I have no interest in Netflix.

Did you not notice that emmerdales ratings hasnt been tape checked?
With a gap that small (and ED includes +1 so the like for like gap will be narrower still) I wouldn't bet against EE being ahead in the official figures. That's often the case when they're close or ED is slightly ahead in the overnights. Quote:
Its a shame itv couldn't cut back on an episode of emmerdale and put a gamrshow in its place. I used to watch them growing up.
Can you imagine if itv did actually put up something likr that up agaisnt eastenders and it did actually damage it, even just a few hundred thousand I bet ee hardcore fans eould kick up s big fuss over it |

I agree, it seems to be ITV and BBC4, I can see why BBC4 need it because most of their stuff is repeats, but ITV?

5.30pm on Saturdays would be good for a new series of Big Break. Steve Davis would make a good John Virgo if Virgo didn't want to do it. Not sure who'd replace Jim Davidson, though.
We are now watching This Time Next Year and I'm bemused why they put Davina in the same dress. Gosh imagine if Cilla had presented this. This is still the 4th trending topic on Twitter and it's very positive. Rightly so because it's very simple yet clever. The tabloids and mags will eat these stories up. I know people are asking about when they can show the next series but they can actually get many of these guests on again in 12 months time. For instance the woman who has four week to go before labour can come back with her 11 month old. And the 75 year old still looking for a new love can definitely return. |

Jesus it's like everybody is of the same mind as me. I totally concur with the above posts about gameshows. Many should be 30mins long and not so called all-star shows.
FF is the best example of this. Catchphrase has come back well and I can live with 45 mins. Price is Right was actually better at an hour under Crowther and 321 worked well as a long show. WoF, Jeopardy, Take Your Pick, Win Lose or Draw, Bullseye and Sale of the Century could all slot in at 3pm or 7:30 or 8. I believe PiR was going to come back under Vernon Kay but offcom said it wasn't skillful enough. Ridiculous even excluding Deal or no Deal. Get the right host and you're away. You won't get 6m but you might get 4m. Hopefully Blankety Blank will help revive shows. This applies to BBC1 too which can be revived even without Sir Bob hosting. And of course they don't all have to be old shows, you do want new too. I remember Noel saying how snobby people were about Telly Adicts but if they had been books or films or music.... The crazy thing is ITV needs a Bullseye leading off on Sundays and that could hurt Countryfile. 321 could be a good variety show with someone like Jason Manford hosting and doing the opening act. Toss in a chart music act, a magician, a dance act and a veteran pop act (Cliff!) and you've got lots of demos hit. People said variety wouldn't rate but Cowell disagreed. These shows even syndicate well as Challenge TV proves. Bullseye is another good call. I've posted previously that ITV should rip-up the schedules on a Tuesday and go with light entertainment and Bullseye at 7.30 leading into 3-2-1 @ 8 would surely post decent ratings at reasonable cost, especially as I believe the BBC1 schedule on a Tuesday is there for the taking. |

Game Shows seem out of favour in this era where people are more selective at what they watch, hence why almost all game shows are actually quiz shows. People turn their nose up at bright and breezy and somewhat tacky game shows these days as many people are wannabe TV snobs.
I think the reason all of these are quiz shows is because TV has become obsessed with finding the next "Millionaire" and the majority of these quizzes are inferior derivatives of that or the Weakest Link. Arguably "Pointless" (which does well on Saturday nights in prime time) is just "Family Fortunes" with a twist. I see no reason why a 30 minute "civilian" "Family Fortunes" couldn't do just as well if scheduled sensibly. |

Do you not think, for example, that a couple of popular rebooted game shows wouldn't be doing better against SCD than Meet the Parents currently is? I can't imagine even in this multi-channel era, the likes of Family Fortunes or Play Your Cards Right dropping below 2m against SCD? I'm also interested as to where you get this impression that game shows are "sneered" at. Are you privy to some audience research that suggests this? |

I can't work out which is sadder. The completely unnecessary tweet from C4 stoking the fire, or the entirely pointless "article" from RT.I think we'll call it a draw. |

Not really that arguable, surely? Pointless facts vs. clueless random thoughts.
Family Fortunes had a stronger endgame though, I'll give it that. |

Looking at a few Twitter's...
- September 2015 - first part of This Time Next Year recordings - September 2016 - second part of This Time Next Year recordings - November 2016 - TV airing So a second series obviously couldn't air until Spring 2018 at the latest - if the format has legs. However, this implies that the first part of the second series may have filmed a few months after September 2015: https://twitter.com/TTNY2015 Recorded 3 says in Sept 2015 and 3 in Sept 2016... Same dress, hair, nails.. When asked if more episodes have been filmed for next year she replied --- fingers crossed. Go figure. |

I think we'll call it a draw. You don't have to take every criticism about Channel 5 deadly seriously. |

David Walliams is hosting this year's Royal Variety. He's going to be very busy over the next couple of months!
Are BBC1 adapting another of his books this year? I haven't heard anything but they've rated well in the past. |

The brand name of Watchdog should give it the W for last night. I've really little idea so I'll guess at 4.2m with Davina at 3.6m. I would expect word of mouth to give Davina the lead over the next 5 weeks.
This Time Next Year was shockingly good. I really am old as those stories got to me; Twitter was in tears over the guy with the stammer. It was actually trending in America but that was just Americans not realising it was a new show and were tweeting what they'll be #Thistimenextyear. American networks are going to fight for the rights to it. Imagine if Oprah presented it. |

The Missing looks to have held up well without Bake Off. It isn't doing as well as series 1 but that's not a bad number. Good return for Watchdog. I assume it'll have won the slot. Interested to see how This Time Next Year did.
