Tipping Point is the best quiz on TV and it's got a lot of PYCRight nature to it. Some not hard questions and then you need some luck to go with your tactics. You might only get Catchphrase success but that's still pretty good.

There's clearly a Make Nostalgia Great Again mood around and the Millionaire look that you see on the lotto and other quizzes are quite dated in their own way. I may be proved very wrong and blankety Blank will be a great test.

Where did they do last year's series of Watchdog? It looked like a proper TV studio.

My copy came in a sealed bag. But, I have no interest in Netflix.

5.30pm on Saturdays would be good for a new series of Big Break. Steve Davis would make a good John Virgo if Virgo didn't want to do it. Not sure who'd replace Jim Davidson, though.

With a gap that small (and ED includes +1 so the like for like gap will be narrower still) I wouldn't bet against EE being ahead in the official figures. That's often the case when they're close or ED is slightly ahead in the overnights.


Well it'd be the same if the BBC tried more against Emmerdale and Corrie. You'd get people saying the big bad BBC is trying to damage poor little ITV.

I've seen it a lot on C5/MTV too.

Davis would be a great choice. I'm sure Jim would happily still do it and snooker could do with the boost.

We are now watching This Time Next Year and I'm bemused why they put Davina in the same dress. Gosh imagine if Cilla had presented this.
This is still the 4th trending topic on Twitter and it's very positive. Rightly so because it's very simple yet clever. The tabloids and mags will eat these stories up.

I know people are asking about when they can show the next series but they can actually get many of these guests on again in 12 months time. For instance the woman who has four week to go before labour can come back with her 11 month old. And the 75 year old still looking for a new love can definitely return.

I would love to see 3-2-1 come back. I think it was a great format and in its day it rated very well. Personally, I'd like to see somebody like Brian Conley host it as he is an all-round entertainer in the mould of the old-school presenters such as Brucie. I would imagine it would rate considerably better than some of the new formats that are / have struggled badly of late to engage with viewers.

Bullseye is another good call. I've posted previously that ITV should rip-up the schedules on a Tuesday and go with light entertainment and Bullseye at 7.30 leading into 3-2-1 @ 8 would surely post decent ratings at reasonable cost, especially as I believe the BBC1 schedule on a Tuesday is there for the taking.

I'm not 100% convinced by that argument.

I think the reason all of these are quiz shows is because TV has become obsessed with finding the next "Millionaire" and the majority of these quizzes are inferior derivatives of that or the Weakest Link.

Arguably "Pointless" (which does well on Saturday nights in prime time) is just "Family Fortunes" with a twist. I see no reason why a 30 minute "civilian" "Family Fortunes" couldn't do just as well if scheduled sensibly.

But its not only the autumn season, because the winter season is The Voice or some other derivative of the talent show format (whether that be Splash, Lets Dance, Let It Shine, Dancing on Ice, etc...) on both sides, Spring is "BGT" and Summer has minimal effort made.

Do you not think, for example, that a couple of popular rebooted game shows wouldn't be doing better against SCD than Meet the Parents currently is? I can't imagine even in this multi-channel era, the likes of Family Fortunes or Play Your Cards Right dropping below 2m against SCD?

I'm also interested as to where you get this impression that game shows are "sneered" at. Are you privy to some audience research that suggests this?

I can't work out which is sadder. The completely unnecessary tweet from C4 stoking the fire, or the entirely pointless "article" from RT.

The brand name of Watchdog should give it the W for last night. I've really little idea so I'll guess at 4.2m with Davina at 3.6m. I would expect word of mouth to give Davina the lead over the next 5 weeks.

This Time Next Year was shockingly good. I really am old as those stories got to me; Twitter was in tears over the guy with the stammer. It was actually trending in America but that was just Americans not realising it was a new show and were tweeting what they'll be #Thistimenextyear.

American networks are going to fight for the rights to it. Imagine if Oprah presented it.

The Missing looks to have held up well without Bake Off. It isn't doing as well as series 1 but that's not a bad number. Good return for Watchdog. I assume it'll have won the slot. Interested to see how This Time Next Year did.
