Casualty actually has a good chance, it's a massive episode with a huge stunt.
Haha it maybe has a "massive chance" of being 3 million behind rather than 3.5.

Not sure why you're quoting "massive chance" when I didn't even say that. Making things up is a new low Dan.

X Factor will be lower than last year, despite all of the desperate backtracking of last year's changes.

Yeah, and Casualty won't be affected by the clash at all will it? Hurrah for Aaron logic!

You might want to remember this. How close they can get! From the SAME weekend only 12 months ago.

Nice job excluding HD for XF but including it for Casualty.

I never said it wouldn't? Please stop quoting my posts if you can't resist making things up. You are making points based on things I haven't even said.

Best TV moment of the year so far for me goes to Bradley & Co winning the Cycling tonight. Wow!

Interesting stuff. Slightly surprised they're launching it on a Bank Holiday, but then I guess it was probably still preferable to going head to head with Poldark right from the off. ITV certainly seem to be putting a lot into it. I'm not entirely convinced it'll do brilliantly (although it should do OK) - I can see it losing to Poldark most weeks.

8 parters Cold Feet and Paranoid are both launching in September, as is new 6 parter The Level and the new series of DCI Banks. Quite a lot of drama to fit in, which is a nice problem to have, but hopefully nothing gets overshadowed.

Presumably against X Factor. You'd expect Casualty to get a boost for an episode like that and with X Factor on the decline that could be closer than you might expect.

At least launching it before Poldark starts, is not competing with another drama looking to attract a similar audience.

I think Victoria should manage a figure over the 5.8m Maigret got, obviously depending on what BBC1 show at 9pm. But BBC1's strong target skewing schedule on Sunday's will undoubtably play in their favour in this drama battle.

So Cold Feet I think is garunteed a Monday slot, DCI Banks on Friday and Paranoid Wednesday.

Oh please, Dan is not directly quoting you by saying "massive chance". Anyone can see that. You seem intent on smearing other people's posts to try and convince yourself of your own points.

I'm guessing they're saving the second Maigret for December. Wonder where Dark Angel will go? I'm guessing that'll slot in either before Cold Feet or on Fridays for two weeks before IAC.

The difference between Maigret and Victoria is that Maigret got the Monday slot whereas Victoria is getting Sunday. Monday is easier as total viewing is higher as people have work the next day and are back in their normal evening routines, whilst Sunday night is part of the weekend. Depending on BBC1's offering I'd agree it's better than launching against Poldark though.

Maigret got a Corrie lead-in whilst Victoria will take an X Factor lead-in. The Sunday XF launch last year got 6.5m (peaking at 7.4m at the end). Not sure what it'll do this year but you'd assume it'd be lower given that it's getting lower each year. I'd guess it'll begin with a 5 but probably still be an above average lead-in. ITV need to get promoting XF with a better trailer than the one they're currently using if they want to get it off the ground. The big Casualty episode will be tough competition for the launch this year.

Last year they launched The Trials of Jimmy Rose in that slot to 4.1m on a fraction of the hype. BBC1's competition (3.2m for Partners in Crime) was probably easier than what Victoria will face (especially if Victoria faces the sitcom season which will be tough) but nonetheless it should definitely launch with more than 5 million, and it'll need to for it to be worth ITV's while and to stand it in good stead against Poldark in week 2.

I'd agree that Cold Feet will get Monday, Paranoid will get Wednesday, The Level Thursday and DCI Banks Friday. I'd be tempted to swap Cold Feet with Paranoid as Cold Feet is guaranteed some sort of audience and that Wednesday slot is tough for a new drama as BBC1 will have a Bake Off enhanced drama there. But I can see why they'd want Cold Feet on Mondays.

I'm guessing they're saving the second Maigret for December. Wonder where Dark Angel will go? I'm guessing that'll slot in either before Cold Feet or on Fridays for two weeks before IAC.
There are a few places it could slot into. There will be 3 Sundays between Victoria and IAC that it could take 2 of (with Maigret in the other?). More likely though I think is for Tina & Bobby to go on those 3 Sundays with Dark Angel on either Monday or Wednesday either before or after the 8 parters. There's also Tutankhamun and HIM to slot in. HIM will probably get a weeknight. Not sure if the plan is to strip Tutankhamun or run it weekly. I'd run it weekly. As there are 4 episodes it'd have to go on a night where they're running a 6 parter and not an 8 parter. So Thursday or Friday (I'd favour Thursday) based on where I think the other dramas will land.

That leaves Maigret, which I think they'll air at Christmas. They normally have a couple of dramas over Christmas so that could be one of them. They've got hour long specials of Birds of a Feather and Vicious as well. Wonder what they'll run on Christmas Day instead of Downton? I'd imagine it'll be a much weaker offering (the advertisers never liked them "wasting" Downton on Christmas Day, it was Fincham who always pushed the idea and he's now gone) and I don't necessarily think it'll be a drama.

Fantastic for Olympics. I imagine there would have been some great peaks there and it obviously took down the other channels not airing any Olympics based programming.

Seems a lot of Olympics viewers struggle to find BBC 2. They really are 'casual' if they can't follow an event around the channels.

I really can't believe viewers can't find BBC2, after all the channel has been going since 1964

From rzt - Peak of 7.85m (48.3%) watching Britain win cycling gold at 22:55

That is brilliant, could be in for some big ratings (well, not huge but still sizeable) tonight.

What we haven't had this year is the combined BBC One + BBC Four + BBC Olympic Red Button ratings. I imagine it has been pushing near to 8/9/10 million once all are taken into account

Is it just me left cold by the thought of both Poldark and Victoria?

I expect they'll both end up with decent overnights and officials, though.

So what will get the highest peak audience tonight - Team GB cyclists winning another gold medal or Gary Lineker welcoming us to the new season on Match of The Day?

Not just you. I can't see either coming close to what Downton used to get in that slot (although that probably is an unfair benchmark). Poldark should do well, as it did last year, and I can see it emerging as the winner.

The Victoria trailer looks better than I expected but it's not my cup of tea and I'm not completely sold on the idea. I think it'll do fine but nothing spectacular. I can see it settling with a bit more than Home Fires but not that much more. Although even if it got the same as Home Fires I reckon they'd renew it out of pride. The figures for Home Fires were OK and it was probably the victim of the new management wanting to shake things up.

I could see Tutankhamun airing in late November after IAC and wrapping up just before Christmas on Sundays but a weeknight wouldn't surprise me, HIM I agree probably will end up on a weeknight with my guess being Thursday with Paranoid on Wednesdays.

ITV First Look already has a trailer for Dark Angel which makes me think it'll air soon, probably in early September.

I think Poldark will be the victor, given that it's already built up a good following and it's got the added eye candy factor of Aidan Turner.
