Bar the Olympics, some really awful ratings. Look at ITV's film choice at 9.30pm. Probably around 1m inc+1. Against the Olympics I ould have scheduled some family films like Despicable Me 2 etc.

So the Olympics on BBC2 out rated MOTD on BBC1.

Outside the Olympics, those are some pretty terrible ratings, but I'm not surprised. ITV should have tried a little harder outside of Catchphrase to try and at least get appealing things as a opposite to the Olympics. Still confused as to why they put CBB at 10:30pm on a Saturday. It will be barely 1m with +1, i assume the share was decent though. Gladiator was a film which I was sure would capture a non-Olympic audience and get around ~1m, but apparently not. Decent for Match of The Day.

Absolutely dire ratings for ITV (more akin to one of its "digital" channels than its main channel). And once again the ratings for the Olympics show that the viewing public is interested.

So much for MOTD getting record ratings to watch Gary in his undies. Beaten by BBC2!

think it rather got lost, and rightly so, in the Olympics buzz!

Yes they really have given up, but I doubt they are the slightest bit bothered.

Strong figures for the Olympics, especially taking into account the Swimming and Athletics are lost in the small hours.

Live sport, should, always top sports highlights so not a surprise. Sky customers could also watch all the goals and short form highlights on phone from 5.15

Record low for ITV? How did Super Saturday in 2012 compare?

MOTD didn't rate as well as people expected, although maybe extra people tuned off after 10 mins when they realised it was just a normal edition after then.

Yes they really have given up, but I doubt they are the slightest bit bothered.
They won't be bothered in the slightest, only in this thread will there be extensive analysis, as is always the case.

Like in 2012, skip over the massive Olympics rating as quickly as possible, spend all day debating what Catchphrase got.

By the looks of it, 5 are contractually obliged to put the 90 mins of football from 9-10.30.

I think they will be regretting not clearing the decks more so than they have, as the Olympics are more popular than expected.

I mean why is Countryfile on BBC1 tonight, when there is a gold medal event going on on BBC2 at the same time.

Tbh if any show can hold up against the Olympics it's Countryfile.

It'd make more sense to put it over on 5*, it would most likely get similar ratings. Why would people watch that over MOTD highlights i don't know. The C5 football is just so unneeded, especially on the main channel.

Because MOTD is the highlights of the Premier League, and Football On 5 is highlights of the lower leagues. So if you support a lower league club and want to see the highlights of their games, you have to watch Football On 5 as Match Of The Day will not cover it.

Still time for them to "do a Murray" and swap channels.

Ludicrous to have Countryfile, rather than the Olympics, on BBC1.

If they can't move the football, just move CBB. I much prefer it at 9, 10.30 is just too late.

With a good amount of warning, most BB fans will switch to 5* one night a week.

I know that, but I think it personally would bring a boost to 5* which shows nothing of interest on a Saturday. ~300k-400k would be decent for 5*, but it's not for Channel 5. Pretty sure those people would follow it around.

It seems the cricket does better than Football on 5 too, which is quite alarming.

No offence to people who like cricket, but for me it's the most dull sport, along with golf. But it has an audience, and it's quite a decent audience for 7pm on a Saturday.

I barely watch TV on a Saturday, I'm always busy and watch my shows on a Sunday throughout the day, so for me, they could take all programming off on a Saturday and I wouldn't care

I do feel Pulp Fiction tonight at 10pm on 5 is actually a pretty good idea though.

@BBCSport

@BBCSport: 19.3m watched #Rio2016 on @BBC TV yesterday, with a peak of 9.4m for the women’s pursuit medal ceremony

That is a ginormous peak.

Will be interesting to see how the Beeb manages things this evening with Andy Murray on court from 7.30pm (it was originally 4pm but later now after rain delays this week), clashing with Louis Smith and Max Whitlock in the individual gymnastics, and also the track cycling including the individual sprint final between Jason Kenny and Callum Skinner.

Couls be highest ratings yet?

Some cracking numbers for the Olympics. They've been doing well this week and momentum does seem to be building.

ITV did awfully as expected but they won't care. Catchphrase looks like a burn off and the rest were repeats. That 80s Number 1 thing only got 2 million for its first screening last year, it probably got about the same last night. So bad for Bourne though, they probably expected it to capitalise on the new movie being in cinemas a bit more.
