Yep. TXF used to be a TV event. Strictly never has been and never will be.
13 million is presumably just a humble gathering of like-minded people in your book. |

Flip it the other way and has a show ever had such a disastrous drop in ratings in such a short space of time ? Bet someone would like to get a grip on that.

I never said that strictly had hit those peaks, just saying it has been far More stable which is true and no I don't need to get a grip thanks
![]() ITV would much prefer to have XF with its current demos even with 4 million less than Strictly. As mentioned Strictly hasn't come close to the series averages XF used to get, nor anywhere near its peaks. Its audience skews much older and therefore it's retained it. It's had a far more pedestrian lifetime than X Factor, so it hasn't got boring (possibly because it was never exciting to start with). |

TXF is doing ok. It may not be hitting the highs of its previous years but for ITV it is still bringing in the numbers. This week I think that it was ITV's 3rd most popular programme - the soaps currently experiencing an afterglow following their big weeks.
ITV cancelling TXF (if it were even a notion) would be the equivalent of BBC One cancelling one of their top 3 programmes, which this week would be Eastenders being 3rd placed. |

Just imagine if Simon called it day in 2010, the show would have true legendary status.
Get out when the audience wanted more.... It's not a golden goose anymore but it's still a cash cow. As I said earlier, I just want itv and the BBC to find some new hits. GBBO was one to be fair. |

I think it's all about perspective, TXF brings in big business to ITV even now due to its demos. SCD has done well through its life but would be quite an ugly duckling to advertisers in comparison.
People keep banging the drum about TXF having more than halved its audience, but it's getting boring now. Everyone knows it's not the show it once was, so why do we need to keep going on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on about it? |

It used to do freak audiences. 15m an episode and 17m+ for the final. That's insane, it was insane in 2010 and it's utterly unthinkable now. The show was a victim of its own success, it burned out.
Quote:
Strictly is more stable in part due to the fact a huge proportion of its audience is the 44+ demo (over 60s comprise 40% of its audience or so). They're more loyal and faithful viewers - and not attractive to advertisers. X Factor brings in the demos but it always did. It's the volume of viewers it doesn't bring in anymore. All these schedules thinking of ways to prop up X Factor. It's X Factor that needs sorting most of all rather than what's around it. It used to prop up everything on a night.

So I'm not sure people are necessarily going on and on about it, as you claim. Most have indeed move on to more "current" ratings stories. It came up here as part of a look back over the decade so naturally there was going to be some comment off the back of that, but no comments regarding XF were as shocking as the poster who saw an opportunity to make an utterly ludicrous point about Strictly not being a TV event at any point in its life! |

I think ITV having a weak drama at 9pm last night was helpful to "telebox programme X Factors". 9pm was a good chance for people to catch up, either via ITV+1, but more likely via recordings.
Imagine if Ant and Dec had been on at 9pm with 9 or 10m viewers. Would many people have played Factor back at 10.45pm? |

Look we get it - The X Factor was a behemoth but it isn't now. It's doing okay and little more than that. It needs to stabilise and quickly. Do we really need pages and pages of pathetic childish baiting about it week after week? What's so amazing about this week's ratings compared to last week that calls people to comment on it, except maybe it held up better than expected yesterday considering...
But considering the set of posts that appeared after yours, it seems a large part of the thread does want to discuss The X Factor every single week on and on, the same posts, baiting each other again and again. It summed it up when someone pointed out that TXF did alright last night on recent standards, and it was immediately dismissed as rubbish because it rated twice as good 6 years ago. |

Fag packets maths and someone will have a better idea..
XF has 30 episodes a year? For 12 years? Call it 300 shows. Shall we say an average overnight of 8m as a series average? That's 2.5bn people who have watched it. And it's probably more. Outside of the soaps, who is going to come near that? Strictly is probably 1bn viewers behind. BGT doesn't have enough episodes and IAC used to be for two weeks if I remember right. ADP summed it up when he pointed out how XF is the daddy of modern British TV. I'm not sure there has ever been such a successful LE programme. It was a one-off that is unlikely to ever be repeated. |
