Emmerdale is doing very well. Still no2 soap spot. This is often touted after a big week on Emmerdale, the latter will fall back behind EE, but at the moment, its been 2 weeks so far, and Emmerdale is still oit in front.

It will be interesting to see what hppens as we edge closer to Christmas. Will EE get a boost thanks to Christmas approaching?

The bonus EE has on Christmas Day, is that the BBC schedule is often so strong, many viewers just keep BBC1 on all day. Its only last year where this changed somewhat.

Wasn't the last ep aired after CBB have finished? I'm pretty sure that's why it struggled. It was in an exposed slot with no support.

He was talking about Bake Off at the time, but I took it to mean he was attracted to EE more generally.

As you know we watched the first episode on broadcast day, as the ad/# free on demand version was available.

Yep, the numbers weren't good enough this time. Not a difficult decision, I imagine.

It had a lot of problems in the last run though, not least the absolutely frenetic editing and poor production values compared to the original. I hope the new series has taken on board the feedback from this as I like the format but It genuinely made me feel motion sick last time I watched it.

Given they killed off their best character last series a sensible decision.

Not sure about poor production values, I think that's harsh and I don't think it would have risen for episode 2 if that was the case.

The editing was a little frenetic certainly, overdoing it at times with the camera work and hopefully that will be looked at, but I couldn't fault the rest and overall I thought Whizz Kid did a very good job.

It doesn't surprise me. It has been struggling in the ratings and from series 4 they ditched the books and created their own mysteries with DCI Banks. I think this may have turned away a good few viewers as the series writers also changed giving the show a different feel.

Well it's not like they have to worry about a second series!

I wonder who'll they will get this series? The last series had a decent lineup but I would go for more themed episodes like Emma v Rylan to tie in with CBB or Holly v Phil

It was dreadful from the get-go. Tompkinson was on Sunday Brunch not long ago bigging it up so it seems as though this was a sudden decision. Should've been put out of its misery after the first series when it was clear how badly miscast he was.

That really doesn't add up. There were three years from filming for series 3 to filming the upcoming series in which the only Sherlock activity was the New Year Special and there have only been 11 episodes in six years. It simply cannot be the case that every delay in the Dr Who schedule is entirely due to Sherlock.

ITV has enough crime dramas to justify the axe of DCI Banks. I'm sure Left Bank will get a commission from ITV for a new crime drama to make up for it.

I'm fairly sure the reason for the delay was Stephen Moffat working on both shows. He should have handed Doctor Who over if he wanted to spend so much time on Sherlock.

Speaking of Doctor Who, the Doctor Who Experience is closing next year which is based just across the road in Cardiff Bay.

I guess it's hard to compare the different coverage, because both ITV and the BBC are mainly relying on partnerships with the US networks.

I'll personally be looking between all three (and some US channels), but will probably be sticking with ITV. I won't be watching all night, I'll probably wake up at about 2am when things start to get interesting.

Possibly but it is running out of contemporary, recurring character, 2 hour story series with Lewis and now Banks going. I presume Vera will be back next year but after that ... ? Everything else seems to be single story, single series stuff (to say nothing of rather variable in quality!)

It's not that surprising to be fair. I'm a fan of the show (and have visited the experience), but the interest in the show has been dwindling. The Argos catalogue used to have a full page of DW merchandise, the last one had none whatsoever.

They've got Endeavour which is still their crown jewel if you ask me. At three (?) eps a year though it's hardly a good-sized tent-pole for them.
