It's got nowt to do with interest levels ...
It's rather silly starting a petition now opposing something that was written into the contract from the very first! |

Series 2 filming dates are now up for Lip Sync Battle UK by the way. They are filming 8 episodes over 8 consecutive nights with the first due to film on November 30 so looks to be back in January like last time as expected.
I think Viacom are more keen to use CBB in January to boost shows on C5 itself rather than the sister channels. LSB tickets here >> www.sroaudiences.com https://www.list.co.uk/article/86111...second-series/ http://www.tellymix.co.uk/tv/lip-syn...nd-series.html http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/p...e-news-9215415 https://www.entertainment-focus.com/...ync-battle-uk/ They've already started promoting it online and there is even a trailer: http://www.channel5.com/mel-b-profes...sync-battle-uk http://facebook.com/lipsyncbattleuk http://twitter.com/lipsyncbattleuk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4aKuElEJXI |

Well if the interest in the show was at it's peak (i.e. 2006/2007), it would probably be staying open beyond the five year lease, or would certainly be moving elsewhere.

When Russell T Davies was in charge of Doctor Who we got a series of !3 a year for 4 years from 2005-2008. It was only during the handover in 2009 from Davies to Moffat that we had a handful of episodes. Moffat's first year with Matt Smith was an uninterrupted series. The second year had a split series. He said it was to make it an event but it was obvious that he couldn't get them out in time because of Sherlock. Moffat said, "you'll never be more than a few months away from Doctor Who." Then after the Christmas special in 2011 Doctor Who had the biggest gap between series since it returned. Then Matt Smith's final series was split over TWO years in 2012 & 2013. Then in 2013, the anniversary year, Moffat said there'd be more Doctor Who than ever. That was a lie. It was 9 episodes in total with the 7 held over from series 3, the special and a Christmas special. Less episodes than in a regular year. Now with Capaldi they moved 2 full series in 2 years and now another loooooong break. Wonder why? *cough* Sherlock *cough*
They can't make it in time and long gaps don't help it. And Capaldi doesn't work for me. Quote:

Report: CBB to follow in the footsteps of IAC and ban reality TV stars:
http://realitybox.co.uk/celebrity-bi...ty-stars-line/ It's from the Star which in this case means it might be true as they still have sources close to the programme. Quote:
Why does Corrie get better ratings as its absolutely terrible at the moment. Emmerdale is amazing and EE might be quiter at the moment but it's still a lot better than Corrie.

Why does IAC have fewer contestants this year? Looks an even worse lineup without Danny Baker.

Some more will go in after a few days, with football on Tuesday, I'd suggest 2 or 3 more will go in on Wednesday. |

Possibly but it is running out of contemporary, recurring character, 2 hour story series with Lewis and now Banks going. I presume Vera will be back next year but after that ... ? Everything else seems to be single story, single series stuff (to say nothing of rather variable in quality!)

They've got Endeavour which is still their crown jewel if you ask me. At three (?) eps a year though it's hardly a good-sized tent-pole for them.
Grantchester and Midsomer Murders also fit the bill of standalone story crime dramas (although the former isn't contemporary) so they aren't too short, but they could definitely do a with a few more. They've focussed more on crime dramas where one story spans the whole series recently, but they haven't all done well. They've got a few more of those coming next year too (Prime Suspect 1973, Loch Ness, Fearless plus Broadchurch 3 and Unforgotten 2). Feels like they've done a few too many, although those do sound better than Paranoid and The Level. |

Yes it does. The Halloween Special always seem to see a spike each year.
I think they should do a Christmas special, if they don't already? Good to see Emmerdale still the second soap so long after the big week, and also good to see Corrie above 7 million. Very poor for BBC1 last night, they should really have run that drama on a Sunday rather than starting it at 8:30pm. ITV Regional News seems to be doing particularly well at the moment considering we keep being told by some here that it isn't even a viable option in any way. |

Yes the second series was announced yesterday, there will be a new series in January 2017 and a Christmas special too, it was revealed by Professor Green on live TV and got quite a lot of media coverage too:

Both channels need a cop drama that isn't a murder mystery. Quite how UK and USA tv ended up with nobody solving more normal crimes I don't know.

Murder sells, that's why most crime novels are murder mysteries. If there was a successful non murder mystery crime drama, it would have done already.
You can make shows where they're dealing with drugs or prostitution or burglary or white collar crime or rape or kidnapping or armed robbery.... To some extent you'll get that in an NCIS or 50 but normally somebody needs to die in the opening scene. I appreciate stories like people smuggling have been done lots of times and I guess producers just think it's better to start off a programme with a dramatic scene. |

I see La Plante has left the Prime Suspect production. Stands a chance of being good now!
![]() ![]() Although behind the scenes drama often doesn't bode well for a show. I'm pretty sure it was supposed to be on this year, so the troubles have definitely delayed production. Quote:
I'm not keen on them retitling Tennison to Prime Suspect 1973, I wonder if Lynda LaPlante departing the series forced them to change the title or if they thought having Prime Suspect in the title would help it sell abroad.

That thought had crossed my mind too!

It might help it get more viewers here too, for the launch at least. I think it was called Prime Suspect: Tennison at one point as well, they've changed it a few times. |

Just a note that there's a very good chance we will see a huge timeshift for Planet Earth II. A lot of chatter from people I know who never normally watch TV a lot of the time.

It does seem like anyone and everyone you speak to has seen it or got it to see. I don't know how accurate the ratings are but from a purely anecdotal viewpoint I would not be surprised if PE2 is the most watched TV show for years.

Nature documentaries still can pull an audience and not just event ones like Planet Earth II but also smaller shows like Artic Live and last year's Loch Lomond.
