The old tactic of sticking a Midsomer repeat on to at least achieve respectability barely achieved that on this occasion then.

BBC1: Top 3 (7pm-11pm)
EastEnders: 6.69m (33.6%) BBC News (10pm): 4.47m (27.3%) Holby City: 4.40m (20.8%) BBC2: Top 3 (7pm-11pm) MasterChef: the Professionals: 2.94m (13.9%) The Choir: Gareth's Best in Britain: 2.09m (10.4%) Extreme Wales with Richard Parks: 1.26m (6.4%) BBC4: Top 3 Elegance and Decadence: the Age of the Regency (R): 0.38m (1.8%) Crime and Punishment: a Timewatch Guide: 0.29m (1.4%) World War One at Home: Cadburys at War: 0.26m (1.3%) Channel 4: Top 3 (7pm-11pm) (exc. +1) The Secret Life of Four-Year-Olds: 1.85m (8.8%) Married at First Sight: 1.74m (8.7%) Channel 4 News: 0.84m (4.3%) Channel 5: Top 3 (7pm-11pm) (exc. +1) The Yorkshire Vet: 1.51m (7.2%) Ben Fogle: New Lives in the Wild: 1.35m (6.7%) Pete Burns: the Last Interview: 0.67m (4.5%) Great rating for EastEnders and an encouraging share although Tuesday is always its best day, let's see if it can sustain it across the week. Very good night for BBC2, Masterchef always does well and nice to see Gareth rise above 2 million. And another great night for Channel 4, good scheduling putting those two together as they're both along the sociology/study lines, very good ratings for both. I think we're starting to see the autumn audiences properly start to come in now. |

So... opinion pollsters have got a third consecutive major political vote wrong after the last UK General Election and Brexit. And it's not as if they were just slightly out either, but majorly so in all three cases!
Completely different kettle of fish TV viewing patterns of course, but does it make you question BARB's methodologies a little bit? The idea that such a small sample relatively speaking can really give an accurate picture of popularity across a whole nation? Obviously BARB isn't measuring what its users intend to watch, but what they actually do watch, which is a plus. However you still have to trust that they have the right mix of demographics on their panel, and that the users in question record their viewing accurately. It strikes me in this day and age of practically everything being connected to the internet that we are not too far away from a better solution to TV data measurement at least being possible, and who knows what results such a system might throw up compared to the rather old fashioned BARB model. When everyone is writing and chatting about a particular show, you can sure some will claim to have watched it even though they didn't. This has been shown in tests where polling has shown that people lie - that's why you have 'shy Trumps'. The. You wonder how many see clips of say PE2 and say they watched it but never did. Similarly, people will pretend they didn't watch something because it's embarrassing. It's like lying about your opinions. How is the consolidated data measured? Is that from downloads or more of the survey technique? Sky probably have far more accurate data. It'd be good if BARB said that x people watched The Grand Tour and Amazon later said the true number was Y. |

BBC One staying with the US Election coverage for the time being.
Wonder how long they'll stay on it for? |

People like me who watch very little on the main five channels and very rarely 'live', wouldn't even get picked for the panel. I've read you need to be 'normal' to get on the panel, I'm an outlier!! Hopefully, I'm one of the 7+ million connected Sky homes they use for second by second viewing data. I would welcome our household's viewing habits being used for commissioning purposes as Sky are doing now. |

Why didn't they put it on BBC2? I doubt British viewers are that interested in the US election that they want to watch it all day.

Excellent ratings for C4 and C5 last night.
Was Your Face Says it All pulled or was it only a 3 part series? |

Your Face Says It All was, mercifully for Channel 4, just a 3 part series.
Nice for them to triple their ratings in that slot in the space of a week. Puts into perspective just how badly that show was doing. |

The trouble is the panel is so small and with all the advertising regions, ages, social classes, there's so few of each being represented.

If Clinton had won then yes but seeing as America is now seemingly hellbent on re-enacting The Dead Zone I would've thought that might glue UK eyeballs to the screen.
I watched CNN and Fox mainly last night because they had real depth of data analysis and also discussed Congressional voting. UK TV won't give that because the interest isn't there. |

It's crazy to clear the schedules for a US result and they'll be a lot of complaints. Everybody has news channels so there's really little need. They would not have done this for Hillary and yes Trump is more interesting but there's plenty of time to discuss that.

They ran with 4 hours of necessary public service news coverage/over the top overkill (delete as appropriate) but it had to end just in time for Pointless, they couldn't let The Chase have a clear run! |

I notice they weren't brave enough to drop Pointless though.

The idea that the ITV quiz show was remotely a factor in the decision making process behind BBC One's schedule changes is laughable. |

ITV went straight into the Election Result last night after the news at 10.40pm, while BBC1 were still on a rpt of WILTY, and yet they still managed a better rating - although nothing to shout about.
