The launch show had 800k so it's the highest ever rating by a fair bit. A lot of that will be because Breakfast was cancelled and GMB will have been an easier watch to some viewers. It's a shame they didn't foresee that the ratings would be up so much, because this mornings programme with Ben and Kate was terrible so yet again they won't retain any viewers. It's a completely different show when Piers and Susanna aren't on.
Agreed, they resorted back to focusing on crap. A stronger show might have held on to some of the viewers. Being perfectly honest, I think ITV have given up on breakfast time and realised chopping and changing is not the way to go.

Good to see Corrie stay above 7 million, and The Missing to be back above 5.
Wasn't the BBC News at 6 till 18:50 yesterday so thats why the Regional News has such a big figure?

I would never have guessed....
I have watched Corrie in the past but it's been very poor for at least the last year or so. The last time I enjoyed it was when Karl/Stella storyline was going on, that was a high period for the show.

Yesterday's teatime ratings

The Chase 3.67 million average (including HD and +1) peak 4.19
Pointless 3.10 million average peak 4.65

I wonder how many people switch over from ITV to BBC at the end of The Chase
I bet that high peak for Pointless is at 5:55 as people tune in early for the news, as it looks unexpectedly high compared to the average.

I wonder how Tipping Point did

ITV Media saying the GMB rating is second highest to the EU Referendum Results, can anybody check this? I don't think we ever got the ratings at the time.

ITV Media tweeted that it was GMB's second highest rating (The Brexit programme was higher). Each to their own I suppose but I prefer Ben & Kate as a presenting duo to Piers and Susanna although admittedly todays programme (what I saw of it) wasn't up to much.

Ben and Kate get on well, but are still fairly lightweight in my view. Piers and Susanna have a certain gravitas about them.

Clearly ITV will never win the 'brekastfast battle', so they might as well just stick with what they have got.

Corrie only airs 3 episodes in week beginning Monday 21st - 7.30pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Presumably IAC will air at 8.30pm then. Is that normal? I thought they displaced News at Ten for it?

Edit: mean 28th

Sorry, I should have been clear when I think(?) you asked earlier.

It tends to be 21:00 start time on Fridays or when it has been displaced by football the night before.

Otherwise, it is 20:30 for eliminations.

Piers has no gravitas just attitude and a rather big head, CNN got rid of him.

Nope, Corrie airs as normal that week. There's actually an extra episode on the Thursday at 8.30...

Because the following week IAC is at 8.30 for the eliminations as normal. Corrie loses an episode that week (hence why they've got the Thursday one the week before. It airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7.30 and the Wednesday episode is 60 minutes.

According to the press office only airs three times.

Edit: my bad, I meant the 28th week. Oh, hour long on Weds makes more sense!

The BBC Two comedy Decline and Fall with Jack Whitehall looks excellent. Anyone know when this is likely to go out - December or next year?

If you're going to stick any significant news on BBC 1 you're harming the news channel. Yesterday could have been a big boost for the channel, bringing new viewers and helping to justify the channel's existence. If I was a BBC executive who wanted to cut costs by removing news24 - I'd use yesterday as an example of its superfluousisity*.
But the News channel is irrelevant to the decision.

What it boils down to is that the BBC's most important content goes on BBC1. BBC1 is not an entertainment channel - it's the flagship channel and the most important content across all genres goes on BBC1 for that reason.

It's been debated many times in the past but whatever the reasons are the reality is that if a "News Special" is put on BBC1 the audience will be way, way higher than on the News channel. Not just double or treble but in the region of about 10 times higher.

Trump's election is arguably the 3rd biggest news story of the year (behind only Brexit and May becoming PM). The BBC's news coverage of it is at the very pinnacle of what the BBC does - and as such it has to go on BBC1.

Quite an interesting quarterly results update from ITV:

Advertising revenue:
- 9 months to Sept 2016: Down 1%
- 3 months to Dec 2016: Down 7% (forecast)
- Year to Dec 2016: Down 3% (forecast)

Underlying performance worse than above due to inclusion of UTV for the first time (adds 1.5% to 2%).

2017:
Programme budget down £25m compared to 2016 (only year in 4 year cycle with no major sports event)
Other cost savings: £25m

Total cost savings of £50m would be enough to offset potential further fall in advertising revenue of 3% in 2017.

Thanks for these.

Many viewers I suspect, which gives Pointless a slight inflation as viewers tune into BBC News early. That peak proves my theory. Higher than The Chase despite the latter having a higher overall rating.

Channel 5 announced their results for the year ended 30 September 2016 a few days ago:

- Pre tax profit up 50% to £58.9m
- First time in its 20 year history it has made profits in consecutive years
- Turnover up 19% to £383m
- Programming spend up 11% to £230m
- Share of viewing amongst 16 to 34 year-olds up 9%

I think the interesting thing here is the demographics. I don't have figures for overall audience share but I think it would be broadly flat. However as stated above share amongst 16 to 34s is up 9% - a very significant change indeed - and it's that which has enabled them to deliver such strong results.

Nope, just a cross in a square. I'm using Chrome on my phone. As always.
Incidentally, if anyone knows why my font has gone from a medium size to a small size then I'd love to hear.

Interesting read, thanks. They're still growing their revenue thanks to other areas but even these have taken hits. I never knew Hell's Kitchen was such a big global money spinner for them.
